Re: [Bug 1737316] Re: Having installed 17.10 I'm getting hardware errors on boot

2017-12-26 Thread James Spreadbury
Hi there.

Having played with this a bit more, each time you update the kernel it
seems to boot ok, but the only rarely. Does that tell us anything.

The first error after the i915 errors begins failed to start volatile
files...

Subsequent errors include 'Failed to start install and generate colour
profiles.

Does that tell you anything?

16.04LTS is still rock solid.

2017-12-26 Thread James Spreadbury
Hi Josh.

It seems that a lot of the errors I'm getting are related to Mysql.
What file do I need to edit in the boot process to remove that problem
and then we can see how stable the rest of the system is.

2017-12-21 Thread James Spreadbury
I created a boot usb stick today and used that to boot the laptop.
Still getting the same initial error on boot. 16.04 LTS still boots
without error so it does appear to be the newer kernels causing the
Ubuntu.

I'm back to 17.10 failing to boot cleanly at all.

Re: [Bug 1737316] Re: Having installed 17.10 I'm getting hardware errors on boot

2017-12-12 Thread James Spreadbury
Hi there.

I've attempted to follow the instructions and install the mainline
kernel using the instructions from the website.

All appears to go fine and I get a message to say that it is updating
grub, but when I reboot, I don't get an option to boot to the new
kernel version.

That said, I installed the latest updates through the software updater
this evening when I began and things seem much more stable.

I still get the initial fifo underrun error but the rest of the boot is
resulting in far fewer errors.

V happy to continue this if you can give me some simple instructions to
get the mainline kernel onto my grub boot menu.

Cheers

James.

I'm getting the i915 uncleared fifo underrun on pipe A errors.

The system won't boot cleanly. I'm using Xorg rather than Wayland as
that appears to be a bit more stable.
