[Bug 997689] Re: thinkorswim app core dumps frequently

2012-10-22 Thread James78
Here's my solution:

- Download the official Java for your platform (x86 or x64).*
- Put the jre folder (make sure it's named jre) in the same folder as the shell
installer. This causes the installer to use Java from your jre folder, instead
of any installed copies.
- Make the shell installer executable if it isn't already.
- Run the installer and install ToS (I installed it to my ~/bin folder,
otherwise you can't run the app without root as it needs access to change files
frequently). ToS installed to ~/bin/thinkTDA.
- Put your jre folder in ~/bin (makes ~/bin/jre).
- Make a link in ~/bin/thinkTDA/jre with a target ~/bin/jre.
- Run ToS.

So far I haven't gotten my computer to crash at all with the new kernel.
It appears to be fixed (this may change) for the moment.

[Bug 964914] [NEW] [oneiric][i915] X driver randomly freezes with render/page table errors.

2012-03-25 Thread James78
Public bug reported:

Using my computer, I randomly get errors, and the entire computer
freezes up. Even the alt+sysrq keys can't be used for a clean shutdown.

All I know is, that this seems to happen when I'm using the native flash
player (64bit version), and scroll down the page (not sure if scrolling
has anything to do with it). Specifically on the KhanAcademy site.

Error below:

[Bug 570562] Re: kded4 high cpu usage

2011-05-07 Thread James78
This bug nearly killed me! I was using my system like normal, then
suddenly everything froze. I wouldn't thought everything crashed except
the mouse did move... Barely.

It took me 1 minute to switch to a TTY, 5 minutes just to login on it,
and 10 minutes total to try doing stuff. Things were so slow even BUSIER
didn't work.

On the TTY I started top to find out the problem, and it was kded4 at
100%! This was awful. I really hope it gets fixed. :(

Andrea: Yes, /var/www/phpmyadmin is a symlink to /usr/share/phpmyadmin,
but please note that you're missing 2 more crucial paths.
/etc/phpmyadmin/:/var/lib/phpmyadmin/ are also part of phpmyadmin and
require to be allowed in open_basedir. May not be related to your issue,
but it's the case nonetheless. :)

Oh, to also make a note, when I said earlier that I removed the slashes

2011-01-14 Thread James78
Andrea: Yes, you are correct, that should work. I wasn't debating that.
If you installed phpmyadmin from the repositories, phpmyadmin calls php
files from /etc/phpmyadmin and /var/lib/phpmyadmin also, as well as
/usr/share/phpmyadmin. phpmyadmin will work without adding those 2
directories into open_basedir, but it breaks some functionality of
phpmyadmin (notice some warning messages at the bottom of the phpmyadmin
index page?). You can check those 2 directories to verify there's php
files inside of them. :)

I also added the note that my test wasn't exactly like yours (and
therefore your issue could still be a bug) because I wasn't using mine
as a prefix (as your issue stated you were doing), even though I removed
the trailing slashes. ;)

Agreed. This is a pretty big security risk to have weakened restrictions
because it stopped working (with the only workaround being removing the

[Bug 701765] Re: open_basedir breaks by restricting paths to files that should be allowed; Unknown: Failed opening required '/usr/share/phpmyadmin/index.php' (include_path='.') in Unknown on line 0

2011-01-12 Thread James78
I stated in the bug description that I wasn't sure if this affected php
on mod_fcgi. I've tested this out now, and it also affects it as it does
on mod_php5.

2011-01-12 Thread James78
Agreed. This is a pretty big security risk to have weakened restrictions
because it stopped working (with the only workaround being removing the
trailing slash), and should be fixed asap.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: php5

In package php5 (5.3.2-1ubuntu4.6) for Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 LTS, I have
  a bug regarding open_basedir setting in php.ini (using libapache2-mod-
- php5). phpmyadmin is within the allowed open_basedir resrictions, yet
- there is an error anyways saying it's not. It worked great using the
- configuration below with php5 (5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5)

+ libapache2-mod-php5 (5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5). This did not seem to affect php
+ on fcgi for me, however this is unconfirmed as I haven't been able to
+ fully test it out.

  My configuration::
  open_basedir =
/home/:/tmp/:/usr/lib/php5/:/usr/share/phpmyadmin/:/etc/phpmyadmin/:/var/lib/phpmyadmin/

  What is expected to happen::
No error, it should work seamlessly.

  What happens::
I receive an error message (below)::
PHP Warning: Unknown: open_basedir restriction in effect.
File(/usr/share/phpmyadmin/index.php) is not within the allowed path(s):

[Bug 324894] Re: Corrupted low memory at kernel warning on resume

2010-09-13 Thread James78
I have a related problem. Almost everytime I leave my computer for
awhile and come back, it won't turn on and it's frozen. I checked the
logs and it's low level memory corruption. This problem has been
happening every since I got Lucid... And there appears to be 0 problems
in Windows 7. No idea why this is happening, but my system is crashing
WAY TOO MUCH, and it's very annoying having to recover the file system
on a daily basis because of this.

[Bug 520546] Re: Alt-f2 switches to virtual terminal 2

2010-05-23 Thread James78
Confirmed. Started happening after I created a new user, switched to
virtual terminal 1, sudo startx -- :1, then logged out of virtual
terminal 8 when I realized I accidentally used the root user. Happened
right after, and I can't use the run dialog now which also uses alt+f2.

[Bug 532984] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 3 won't boot, with (process 239): GLib-WARNING **: getpwid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0), on HP Compaq Pentium 4

2010-05-06 Thread James78
Ubuntu, installed Kubuntu-desktop later. Using KDE as default, KDM
default, plymouth Kubuntu logo. I have framebuffer=y in /etc/initramfs-
tools/conf.d/splash to delay boot a few seconds to make my splash
actually show up. Occasionally this error pops up on me, I restart again
and it's fine however. It pops up right after plymouth is finished
loading, and I do not see the KDM login screen.

Using..

[Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28

2009-07-10 Thread James78
I have all the latest upgraded drivers, kernel, etc. Using a native ext4
partition, Jaunty w/latest KDE. Freezes and locks up the system almost
every single time I empty the trash or delete certain items via Dolphin.
Noticed this problem about 5 days ago, never seemed to be evident before
then. I thought it might be something I did to my system, but I realized
that with how much care I have given my system, it can't be this messed
up.

I'm not the best Linux guru, but I'm extremely competent, so if any log
files are needed, output, errors, more information, etc, just ask, and
if possible include a way how to get it. I hope this gets fixed soon!
