[Bug 1913869] Re: Invalid regular expressions describing Debian package file naming convention

[Bug 1913869] [NEW] Invalid regular expressions describing Debian package file naming convention
Public bug reported: In chapter 2.5.8. table Table 2.16 there must not be commas in the regular expressions unless comma is a valid character in that name component. Besides if '-' is valid, it should be the last one enumerated; otherwise it is a metacharacter. Also be more specific that these are POSIX Extended Regular Expressions. The bug occurs probably in all language versions, but I provide a patch for the English one. Same valid characters apply in Ubuntu package naming, too, right? [Bug 892317] Re: set -e reverses order of signal handlers
The behavior seems to have changed in later version. I tested dash 0.5.10.2-6. There EXIT trap is not run at all, if -e is used, and you use Ctrl-C. But if you remove the 'exit 2' from the signal trap, EXIT trap will be run regardless of -e setting, when you press Ctrl-C. That is not intuitive. So I think EXIT trap should be run even in case of -e. [Bug 1550898]
Boris, your patch sound good. I did not try it yet, because I am not used to building Xfce software from source. Another approach is that terminal has its own session management independent of xfce session like many web browsers do, so it would remember tabs, current directories and history for each tab. Possibly user could save several sessions and open them. It is odd that this slowness happens with some directories, but not with others. For example it happens on a directory with 7 files; file names consist of letters, '-', digits and '.'. ls command on that directory takes about 5 minutes. [Bug 1802138]
I do not see a problem in having even longer delay than a second. But, using "sleep 1; xset dpms force off" has still the problem that user may accidentally touch something so that display will become on again. Besides, it effectively disables Presentation mode user may have set using Power manager's panel item. A better solution would be to change DPMS settings for the time such a screen locker is running to enable turning display off after reasonable time of inactivity from user, and restore previous settings, when user unlocks. This is possible by using a wrapper script. I have actually introduced such a version of xflock4 in bug report https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10217 attachment https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=7254 in 2017. It uses 15 second delay, but an initial delay of 1 second could be added. That script has other modifications such as added screensavers and lockers and optionally using display power management for the locker user may have set in Xfconf. The script can be simplified notably, if hacking the DPMS settings for general lock command set in Xfconf is left out. I have never got any feedback about the script. Note: proper screensavers (that have a daemon running when lock command is called) should handle DPMS by themselves. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1802138 Title: xflock4 needs a 'sleep 1' before 'xset dpms force off' to prevent backlight from immediately reactivating To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-session/+bug/1802138/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1796081] Re: dpkg frontend locking
I think it can be made to work. I do not know how apt/dpkg is implemented, but I made an example by Bash: script.sh file: #!/bin/bash # exec {var}>/tmp/lock flock -n $var || { echo already locked; exit 1; } LOCK= /path/to/subscript.sh # edit this path subscript.sh file: #!/bin/bash # [[ -v LOCK ]] && { kill $PPID; sleep 3; } # kill the caller exec {var}>/tmp/lock flock -n $var && echo was not locked || echo was locked The subscript.sh above kills the caller (if LOCK variable is set in its environment). The subscript shows the lock is set even thereafter until the subscript finishes. Anyway I am missing something: Even if I lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock or /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend this way (instead of locking /tmp/lock), that does not prevent installing a package by apt install or dpkg --install. But if I run Synaptic package manager by pkexec "/usr/sbin/synaptic", it locks the files and prevents installing by apt or dpkg from outside. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1796081 Title: dpkg frontend locking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1796081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1796081] Re: dpkg frontend locking
I do not see why we need this new frontend lock. If there are higher level frontends, they may have to do some locking before calling apt, but they would have to release the locks before calling apt, and then there is race condition. [Bug 1857018] Re: apt-get: Can not downgrade dependencies or anything with -t
Well, actually I have thought a lot about this downgrading thing. I have contributed to ppa-purge and even made a PPA of that: https://launchpad.net/~jarnos/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-purge I still have to fix it to keep auto installed packages auto installed, which is not very difficult. [Bug 1811402] Re: Can not switch to virtual console (TTY)
** Description changed: - If I try to switch to a virtual console by Ctrl-Alt-F1 or greater (up to Ctrl-Alt-F6), screen is black. But I can return by Ctrl-Alt-F7 (if light-locker is not used). + If I try to switch to a virtual console by Ctrl-Alt-F1 or greater (up to Ctrl-Alt-F6), screen is black. But I can return by Ctrl-Alt-F7 (if light-locker is not used; update: now I can return even if light-locker is used). This happens with nvidia-340 driver (I am using version 340.107-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 from bionic-updates), but not with nouveau driver. With nouveau driver I can switch to TTY2, TTY3 and TTY6 for text console, and TTY7 gives the X session. This bug also breaks light-locker, switching user and maybe something else. [Bug 1760068] Re: Wrong resolution at unlock screen
Oh, I found alternative way that works for GRUB menu resolution and console resolution, too, and no need to create /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Edit /etc/default/grub accordingly: GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x1024,auto GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep,text You may want to or have to use a different resolution than 1280x1024. Thereafter "sudo update-grub" and reboot. [Bug 1760068] Re: Wrong resolution at unlock screen
I used sudo nvidia-xconfig to create initial /etc/X11/xorg.conf file like told in #18 Then added Section "Files" ModulePath "/usr/lib/nvidia-340/xorg" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" # ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg" EndSection in /etc/X11/xorg.conf The last directory is empty, so I guess that is why it is ok to comment it out. Works for the login screen, but other TTY:s have small resolution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1760068 Title: Wrong resolution at unlock screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1760068/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
