[Bug 2061713] [NEW] ASUS Battery Won't Charge if Plugged in While Suspended

2024-04-15 Thread Nicholas Jarvis
Public bug reported:

When running Ubuntu (or any other linux distro i've tried) the laptop
will not charge if it is plugged in while suspended. Charging works find
if the laptop is awake, or if it is shut down. It also works properly
when running windows which makes me think its not a hardware problem but
a linux issue.

The charge status doesn't seem to update at all when the computer is
suspended. If it is charging when its put to sleep then the charge LED
on the side is lit, and if I then unplug the charger the LED doesn't
turn off until the computer is woken up.

If the computer is plugged in while sleeping I know it isn't charging
even though the light doesn't turn on because I have left it overnight
and the battery stays at the same percentage.

I've been unable to find any information about what could be causing this issue.
My Laptop is an ASUS Zenbook Flip UX461UA

Ubuntu Version:
Description:Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Release:22.04

I'm not sure what package would be causing this.

What I expect to be happening: The battery should start charging if its
plugged in while suspended

What happened instead: Battery doesn't charge and charging indicator
doesn't change until the computer is woken up

[Bug 1964916] Re: [HP Omni 120-2110il AIO] Flickering white lines on screen

2022-03-29 Thread Jarvis Yadav
Can you help me out in installing the latest drmtip kernel.. Whenever I try to
install drmtip kernel it shows error like,
"linux-headers-***-generic depends on libc6(>= 2.34) however Version of libc6
on system is 2.31
Package libssl3 is not installed"
I think I will have to compile the latest drmtip kernel to overcome these
dependency issues.. I don't know how to compile the drmtip kernel.. Help would
be appreciated.

Ok I will try 'drmtip' kernel, and report it as well in case it's not
fixed.. But I would like to ask what if I use the "nomodeset"
parameter.. What compromises would be there in using nomodeset?

[Bug 1964916] Re: [HP Omni 120-2110il AIO] Flickering white lines on screen

2022-03-28 Thread Jarvis Yadav
So here's an update,
It seems like I don't have the 'Secure Boot' Option in my bios so I couldn't
test it.
I disabled UEFI devices from my bios and that forced it to use legacy boot
devices only (Sandisk Cruzer Blade in the above video is my bootable pendrive
from which I am installing ubuntu)
Then reinstalled Ubuntu, but still the issues are same..
Here is a video of bug during the installation process-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VMa3WcwaYQ
And here is a video of the startup process-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIZj-oHXCHs

My BIOS doesn't have a direct option to switch to legacy or UEFI mode, so I
disabled UEFI devices to force it to use legacy mode (and that's why there are
not UEFI boot sources in the video above)
In short- Nothing Changed, Everything is the same

[Bug 1767536] Re: Accessing the WIFI section of the "Settings" window causes massive freezes

2018-10-13 Thread Jarvis Schultz
I notice that if I launch gnome-control-center from the command line
with the "--verbose" option, when I'm on the WiFi tab it prints out all
SSIDs available at extremely high speeds. It seems like maybe the
periodic scan of networks is happening far too quickly. When I switch to
a different tab there is a message about disabling periodic scanning,
and suddenly the CPU usage drops dramatically and everything seems to
work. I also notice that if I use "rfkill" to disable WiFi, and then run
gnome-control-center I can't reproduce the high CPU usage.

I'm attaching a snippet of the printouts that are coming on the WiFi
tab. Notice it is printing about 2000 messages per second.

[Bug 1535088] Re: Linux Generic Kernel x -43

2016-01-21 Thread Matt Jarvis
This may be the same thing we are seeing on OpenStack compute nodes
since upgrade. Hard crash, no output to logs, local console occasionally
shows a kernel panic ending with Fatal Exception in Interrupt, shutting
down CPU's.

We are seeing this reliably across 10 nodes which have been upgraded,
and it doesn't happen on other nodes which are all running
3.13.0-62-generic.

Have tried downgrading QEMU to 2.0, and OpenVswitch to
2.0.2-0ubuntu0.14.04.2, neither of which stop the problem happening.
Hardware has also been stress tested and no memory or CPU issues.

Still trying to find a reliable recreate, but seems to be connected with
live migrations happening on other machines, where the node that crashes
is hosting virtual instances on the same virtual networks on which the
migration is happening.

[Bug 1383921] Re: kipmi0 process hangs with ipmitool

2014-12-03 Thread Matt Jarvis
With the kernel 3.13.0-41-generic, I can confirm that we are now able to
run warm and cold resets of the mc via ipmitool correctly. On previous
kernel those commands would cause kipmi to use 100% cpu time and require
the ipmi modules to be unloaded and reloaded before ipmitool would
operate correctly. With this kernel once the mc is reset, ipmitool works
properly. This would seem to fix the issue for us, but we're not the
original bug reporter.

2014-11-18 Thread Matt Jarvis
Is there any news on this issue ? we have many nodes in our Openstack
cluster starting to suffer from this problem as we have a puppet fact
which runs ipmitool lan print and so triggers the bug often. Could you
also tell us what the workaround was for RHEL as we can't access the
page on RedHat's site. The workaround we have found is to remove and re-
add the ipmi_si module, but removing it takes a VERY long time ie. many
many hours

[Bug 1283863] Re: disabling touchpad is not persistent

2014-04-20 Thread Michael Jarvis
I just installed 14.04 Trusty Tahr 64-bit desktop on a Toshiba laptop
with a Synaptics touch-pad, and I'm having the same issue. I NEVER use
the touchpad, and in Windows it automatically disables it when a USB
mouse is present. In Unity I go in and disable the touchpad but it's re-
enabled when I reboot.

I'm tempted to go digging in the UEFI settings and see if I can disable
it there...

[Bug 1243938] [NEW] 12.04 LTS (Precise) libmagic1 not returning ANY mime-type for some Microsoft Office files

2013-10-23 Thread Michael Jarvis
Public bug reported:

I am working on some software that will analyze arbitrary files, and
determine the mime type using libmagic1 (tied closely with the file
package).

I have a C program that links with libmagic1, and it calls magic_file()
correctly, but for certain files it's returning an empty string for the
mime type. It appears to be Microsoft Office documents (such as Word
and Excel documents), and the mime type returned is ; charset=binary
instead of something like application/vnd.ms-excel; charset=binary.
At the very least, I would expect it to return application/octet-
stream instead of just nothing.

This has been fixed in later versions of libmagic1, since I cannot
reproduce on 13.04 raring or 13.10 saucy. I've also downloaded and
compiled file 5.10 and 5.15 from source (http://www.darwinsys.com/file/)
on 12.04 LTS and that worked fine as well, so I'm confident this is a
bug in the libmagic1 package.

Can we get a fix pushed for 12.04 LTS?

Thanks

lsb_release -rd returns Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS on my test system.

[Bug 925005] Re: moria fails to start with Abort error

2012-12-06 Thread Rob Jarvis
When you run it from a VT (Ctrl-Alt-F1 works) you get some output.
Redirecting stdout shows that it's trying to create a file and it fails,
but doesn't indicate which file. Redirecting both stderr and stdout
makes the kernel output easier to read (but hard to capture): *** buffer
overflow detected ***: moria terminated.

There's some diagnostics afterwards. I'll try and capture them sensibly
and attach.

[Bug 772709] Re: Network Manager Icon Is not changin when VPN is connected (nm-device-wired-secure icon is missing)

2012-11-29 Thread Rob Jarvis
I played around some more and found out that the icon location I was
using doesn't play nice when the nm-applet isn't in the indicator panel.
So I found a better place for it and (tried to) improve the quality a
little. (I tried to switch to SVG, but that seems to interfere with the
'connecting' animation.)

So, long story short these ones should be better.

[Bug 543266] Re: preview latex fails with pdflatex

2012-09-12 Thread Jarvis Schultz
In regards to the last two comments. I was also on 12.04 (with auctex
11.86 and gs 9.05) and preview inside of emacs was not working.
However, unlike this bug, my error message read

Error: /invalidfileaccess in --file--

not

Error: /typecheck in --setfileposition--

I filed a bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/auctex/+bug/1028681

I was able to solve the problem by downgrading gs to 8.70.
Alternatively, does upgrading auctex to the cvs version also fix this
other problem?

[Bug 1028681] Re: ghostscript 9.05 fails with preview-latex and auctex

2012-07-26 Thread Jarvis Schultz
I believe that you are correct in thinking it is a problem in auctex. I
was able to run all of the latex, dvips, and ghostscript calls that
preview-latex is making individually with both versions of gs.
Therefore the conclusion is indeed that there is a problem with the way
that preview-latex is combining the individual calls. Sorry for posting
in the wrong package!

[Bug 1028681] [NEW] ghostscript 9.05 fails with preview-latex and auctex

2012-07-24 Thread Jarvis Schultz
Public bug reported:

This is not the same as this bug:

[Bug 871587] [NEW] Update manager not working

2011-10-09 Thread Ken Jarvis
Public bug reported:

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package
information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:

'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 1 in source list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/kubuntu-ppa-ppa-lucid.list, E:The list of
sources could not be read.'

I was trying to install DigiKam 2.2.0 onto my laptop. I have Ubuntu
10.04 and It required a few dependencies from Kubuntu. I installed a PPA
from Phillps5 directory and the update manager crashed. How do I fix it?

Thank you.

Thanks to Albert, I can confirm this was an upstream kernel issue. I

[Bug 693917] [NEW] Samsung LN-T5265F display resolution wrong

2010-12-23 Thread Joseph Mark Jarvis
Public bug reported:

Lucid, Maverick, and Natty Alpha 1 set the wrong resolution for my HDTV
display (both VGA and HDMI). I'm guessing it's a kernel mode setting
bug because it worked fine until Lucid.

I have an Intel DG965WH motherboard with integrated Intel G965 graphics.
A Prolink PV-CH7315 ADD2 card with Chrontel CH7315 chip provides the
HDMI port. The computer is connected via both HDMI and VGA to a Samsung
LN-T5265F HDTV.

[Bug 616984] Re: e1000e cannot connect on Lucid, Maverick (regression)

2010-09-13 Thread Joseph Mark Jarvis
@Mathieu Trudel,

Hi Mathieu. Thank you for replying.

There is a DHCP server on the network. It successfully assigns the same
IP to the machine for every lease based on the machine's MAC address.
I'm running 9.10 Karmic on the machine now, and it picks up an IP just
fine.

[Bug 619570] [NEW] internet randomly redirects

2010-08-17 Thread Jarvis
Public bug reported:

I'm running ubuntu/studio 10.04 (but it says regular ubuntu on the about
page) x64. I first started experiencing this problem with firefox 3.6
but then I installed chromium too to see if I could bypass the problem
but I can't.

when I'm on the internet I'll get redirected randomly on many different
sites all the time. For example, sometimes if I type in google I'll get
redirected to a myspace page or the w3c content guidelines page (I never
visit either page by the way), and if I try to go to facebook I'll get
redirected to google, etc. Also many times when I'm on google and I
click a link that i've searched, it thinks that the site I was going to
go to was part of google and will give me a google 404 error. It's very
frustrating.

[Bug 618005] [NEW] Evolution not synchronizing contacts with Ubuntu One

2010-08-14 Thread Joseph Mark Jarvis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-couchdb

Evolution is not synchronizing contacts with Ubuntu One. I did a clean
install of 9.10 Karmic. I have an existing Ubuntu One account with
contacts. Evolution had no contacts when I configured Ubuntu One.
After it didn't work, I followed the steps here:

the problem.

[Bug 616984] [NEW] e1000e cannot connect on Lucid, Maverick (regression)

2010-08-12 Thread Joseph Mark Jarvis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I just installed a clean copy of 10.04 LTS Lucid on a desktop PC.
Network-manager cannot connect to the wired network. I was successfully
running 9.10 Karmic before.

I tested the 10.04 LiveCD, and the same problem exists. I downloaded
10.10 Maverick alpha 3 and booted into the LiveCD. Network-manager
could not connect under Maverick either.

The computer has an Intel DG965WH motherboard with integrated Intel
82566DC gigabit ethernet.

In Lucid, there is no auto eth0 or other entry listed when clicking on
the taskbar icon. When I choose Edit Connections, there is an auto
eth0 entry and its properties look normal.

In Maverick, there is an auto eth0 entry when clicking on the taskbar
icon. Clicking on it fails to connect after a minute or two. Syslog
for this is attached.

To verify the network cable and plug/connector are still good, I
successfully connected a laptop to it.

[Bug 499937] Re: click install, nothing happens, in software center if policykit auth agent not running

2010-06-03 Thread Lance Jarvis
I installed 10.04 and shortly thereafter had this same problem with
programs not being able to be installed (or presumably removed) and
several other authorisation related problems as well. After much stress
I found that the Policykit agent set to run on startup was a KDE one.
The problem appears to have been solved by creating a new start up entry
(System-Preferences-Startup Applications) to run the GNOME policy kit as
Daniel wrote above (2010-03-02) and switching off the KDE one. I guess
KDE and GNOME versions are not entirely compatible and appear to not be
interchangable. It seems to be working for me. Hopefully this will
help others.

There is now no problem with compiz and proprietary nvidia driver.

So I think it's the driver of ati GPU:
