My mistake, it is still present. I just wasn't waiting long enough
after the screen blank before waking the screen up. Waited a bit and it
is back, even with the extension running.

Also tried editing /etc/default/acpi-support and commenting out the line
LOCK_SCREEN=true. That did not work.
Just found a workaround that seems to take care of the problem. Install
the Gnome Extension: Disable Screen Shield and activate it. The lock
screen no longer appears after screen blanki

I tried downgrading to 4.4.0-101-generic - no change
I tried adding the ppa ppa:ci-train-ppa-service/2685 and using sudo apt
update then sudo apt full-upgrade to upgrade bluez to 5.46 in Linux Mint
18.2 - this improved things a bit. Less video freezing and able to
resume from freezing.

No other wireless devices. I use the touchpad or a wired mouse on my
laptop. I use a Wireless G AP (I'm guessing that is 2.4G) I will try
using my bluetooth headset connecting to my phone while I use my laptop
to see if it interferes.

The other very strange part is that the longer I play audio through the
internal speakers, the longer bluetooth plays before the problem arises.
If I only play a few seconds through the internal speakers, I only get a

Turned out to be a hardware issue. My bluetooth would give errors on
startup and only work intermittently. Edited
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and blacklisted bluetooth and btusb.
Also disabled it via: sudo systemctl mask dbus-org.bluez.service. Now
works suspending works like a charm.

Still freezes with the grub modification. Tried kernel 4.5.2, same
problem. For me it seems to happen most frequently with changing power
sources while suspended (ie. plugging in or unplugging while suspended)
At least I can avoid this. Not sure what to do at this point.

So far have tried kernels:
4.8-rc5 - breaks Wi-Fi
4.6.7 - breaks Wi-Fi
4.4.9 - still random freezes on resume from suspend
4.2.8 ckt13 - still random freezes on resume from suspend
The only other thing I can think of is that I installed TLP shortly
after installing this version of elementary. Not
My system hung this morning, so no improvement with updated drivers.
Trying the 4.4.8 mainline kernel next as some have suggested.

Followup to my last comment. Checked which packages were installed,
they were all from oibaf ppa so removee xorg-edgers ppa for the time

Another workaround for flash is to try using the x64-flash plugin
instead. This seems to have taken care of the problem with flash for
me. As for Silverlight, I tried installing Devil's Pie 2:
