[Bug 603499] [NEW] OpenSC unusable under Ubuntu in most cases

2010-07-09 Thread Jean-Michel Pouré
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: opensc

Hello,

OpenSC smartcard and token framework depends on either pcsc+ccid AND/OR
openct.

OpenCT subsystem is mainly for proprietary hardware.
The problem is that when OpenSC is configured with OpenCT, OpenCT will access
the card in single mode.
Therefore OpenSC reports 'card not present' or other errors messages.

The solution would be to make OpenSC not depend on OpenCT package.
Therefore if a use would like to remove OpenCT package, it is possible.

You may read our guide in details here:
http://www.gooze.eu/howto/smartcard-quickstarter-guide

GNU/Linux is here:
http://www.gooze.eu/howto/smartcard-quickstarter-guide/gnu-linux-installation

Known issues:
http://www.gooze.eu/howto/smartcard-quickstarter-guide/known-issues

Furthermore, pcsc, libccid and opensc packages available in Ubuntu are
more than 1 year old.

If possible, in a near future after submitting patches, I would like to
take over maintenance of pcsc, ccid and opensc packages to publish the
latest packages.

What is required to become maintainer?
Should I create a lauchpad project?

Kind regards,
Jean-Michel

Why is this patch still not fixed? OpenSC is not usable at present.

[Bug 16918] Re: smartcard support is not enabled in openssh

2009-12-25 Thread Jean-Michel Pouré
I have been using Debian GNU/Linux for 10 years.
I really need smartcard support to secure my SSH and StrongSwan communications.

As written before, smartcard are really secure technologies.
You can buy used smartcard readers on eBay for less than 10 euros.

So please add smartcard support to Openssh.

By the way, most of us only need --with-opensc and opensc libraries so
why beg during years for such a common feature.

[Bug 269191] Re: [Wish][Intrepid]Please in clude Kdenlive 0.7 for kde4 in the repo´s

2008-12-12 Thread Jean-Michel Pouré
Dear Friends,

I am part of Kdenlive team.

Kdenlive recommended version is 0.7.
Previous kdenlive versions are unstable and deprecated.
We will not support them any more.

Until Ubuntu provides Kdenlive 0.7,
we recommend users to migrate to Debian SID.

Read:
http://www.kdenlive.org/link/ubuntu-gnulinux

Maybe Ubuntu is not a multimedia system.
If not, do not include Kdenlive 0.7 in your repos.
Otherwize, make the minimum efforts of looking at Christian Marillat packages.

The Debian packages can be suited to Ubuntu needs quite easily.
So there is no reason why Ubuntu users should wait ages before using Kdenlive
0.7

Kind regards,
Jean-Michel
