[Bug 1735529] Re: Firefox incorrectly blacklists system for WebGL

2018-09-23 Thread Jeremy Nation
I'm confirming that this still works for me, as I described in my
previous comment, using Firefox 62.0 and Ubuntu 18.04.

[Bug 1724705] Re: Firefox error: "DRM: Failed to create and initialize a MediaKeys object"

2018-08-11 Thread Jeremy Nation
Using Firefox 61.0.1 provided by Ubuntu, using Ubuntu 16.04, with a new
Firefox profile: https://shaka-player-demo.appspot.com/ redirects to
https://shaka-player-
demo.appspot.com/demo/#asset=https://storage.googleapis.com/shaka-demo-
assets/angel-one/dash.mpd;lang=en-US;build=uncompiled and, after
enabling DRM and waiting for the Widevine plugin to install, fails with
a yellow bar at the top that says "The WidevineCdm plugin has crashed."

Using Firefox 61.0.1 downloaded from
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/61.0.1/linux-x86_64/en-
US/firefox-61.0.1.tar.bz2, using Ubuntu 16.04, with a new Firefox
profile: the same steps happen but the plugin doesn't crash at the end.

This will be the last update I provide unless a maintainer responds and
asks for more information.

[Bug 1750593] [NEW] Misspelled word in description-en for unity-scopes-runner

2018-02-20 Thread Jeremy Nation
Public bug reported:

For package "unity-scopes-runner", version
"7.1.4+16.04.20180209.1-0ubuntu1", the "Description-en" value is:

```
Description-en: desktop runner for misceallenous scopes
 The scope runner is a handy tool for wrapping on a desktop the various
 scoped installed on the system.
```

"misceallenous" should be spelled "miscellaneous".

[Bug 1724705] Re: Firefox error: "DRM: Failed to create and initialize a MediaKeys object"

2018-02-17 Thread Jeremy Nation
As of Firefox 58.0.2, I can reproduce this problem at https://shaka-
player-demo.appspot.com/ too. Looking at the "Asset" dropdown on that
page with the Ubuntu-provided version of Firefox, various DRM-related
options are grayed out, including the Widevine options. With the
downloaded-from-Mozilla version of Firefox, the Widevine options are
available.

I'm still getting a "MediaKeys" error at https://bitmovin.com/mpeg-dash-

Please note that the purpose of this bug is to say that DRM playback is
entirely broken for me, not just that I'm having trouble with one

because it doesn't require a login.

[Bug 1740323] Re: Enigmail should be updated to version 1.9.9 following Cure53 audit

2018-01-18 Thread Jeremy Nation
I asked in the original bug report to have Enigmail updated to 1.9.9.
Posteo, one of the sponsors of the audit, wrote at
https://posteo.de/en/blog/security-warning-for-thunderbird-users-and-
enigmail-users-vulnerabilities-threaten-confidentiality-of-communication
:

"For Enigmail users:

* Update Enigmail immediately to the new version 1.9.9. This update removes all
vulnerabilities identified in this audit.
* ..."

An excerpt of the audit report is available at
https://www.enigmail.net/download/other/Enigmail%20Pentest%20Report%20by%20Cure53%20-%20Excerpt.pdf
linked from the Enigmail changelog at
https://www.enigmail.net/index.php/en/download/changelog .

At your link https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates it says:

"2. When

2.1. High-impact bugs

Stable release updates will, in general, only be issued in order to fix
high-impact bugs. Examples of such bugs include:

* Bugs which may, under realistic circumstances, directly cause a
security vulnerability. These are done by the security team and are
documented at SecurityTeam/UpdateProcedures.

* ..."

That's the situation here, there are multiple bugs that cause security
vulnerabilities and I submitted a bug report here asking for Enigmail to
be updated. If that means this is a "stable release update" and not a
"fake-sync", that's fine with me.

I'm not part of the Enigmail development team. It seems from your link
that this should be handled by the security team, but if you or the
security team are not the right group to handle this according to Ubuntu
bug rules, please feel free to reassign this to a different team, or
leave it unassigned and remove the "Incomplete" status.

Enigmail is already updated to 1.9.9 in Debian stable, see

[Bug 1740323] [NEW] Enigmail should be updated to version 1.9.9 following Cure53 audit

2017-12-27 Thread Jeremy Nation
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Enigmail was recently audited by the security firm Cure53. According to
the Enigmail changelog at
https://www.enigmail.net/index.php/en/download/changelog regarding
version 1.9.9, "This release addresses security vulnerabilities
discovered by Cure53."

The "enigmail" package in all supported versions of Ubuntu should be

[Bug 1735529] [NEW] Firefox incorrectly blacklists system for WebGL

2017-11-30 Thread Jeremy Nation
Public bug reported:

This is with Ubuntu 16.04.

Using the Ubuntu-provided Firefox 57.0, if I go to
https://get.webgl.org/ I get the message:

"Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or
unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you are running the latest
drivers for your video card."

In the JavaScript developer console there are some messages, including:

"Error: WebGL warning: Failed to create WebGL context: WebGL creation failed:
* Refused to create native OpenGL context because of blacklist entry:
FEATURE_FAILURE_OPENGL_1
* Exhausted GL driver options."

There are similar messages for WebGL in about:support.

However if I download Firefox 57.0 from
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/57.0/linux-x86_64/en-
US/firefox-57.0.tar.bz2 and use that to go to https://get.webgl.org/ , I
get the message "Your browser supports WebGL".

So it looks like Ubuntu-provided Firefox has a problem while Mozilla-
provided Firefox doesn't. (FYI, I reported a similar problem in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1724705 , where
DRM-protected content doesn't work with Ubuntu-provided Firefox but does
work with Mozilla-provided Firefox.)

[Bug 1724705] [NEW] Firefox error: "DRM: Failed to create and initialize a MediaKeys object"

Public bug reported:

I get an error playing DRM-restricted content with the Firefox 56.0 that
comes with Ubuntu 16.04, but not with the Firefox 56.0 that I download
from Mozilla.

Specifically, if I go to https://bitmovin.com/mpeg-dash-hls-drm-test-
player/ with the Firefox 56.0 included with Ubuntu 16.04, the video box
in the middle of the page displays static with the error message "DRM:
Failed to create and initialize a MediaKeys object". If I instead
download Firefox 56.0 from
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/56.0/linux-x86_64/en-
US/firefox-56.0.tar.bz2 and extract and run that Firefox, the video will
correctly start after I click play.

In both cases Firefox is configured with:
* about:preferences > "Play DRM-controlled content" checked
* about:addons > "Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc."
v1.4.8.1008 installed and set to "Always Activate"

[Bug 1667523] [NEW] Unable to search in Evince in PDFs opened from Firefox with Firefox AppArmor profile enabled

2017-02-23 Thread Jeremy Nation
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS with Unity
Firefox 51.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.2
Evince 3.18.2-1ubuntu4
AppArmor/apparmor-profiles 2.10.95-0ubuntu2.5

Steps to reproduce:

1) Enable AppArmor: service apparmor start
2) Enable Firefox AppArmor profile: aa-enforce /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox
3) Reload AppArmor: service apparmor reload
4) Browse to https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/serverguide.pdf in Firefox
5) Select "Open with: Document Viewer"
6) Type ctrl-F "Ubuntu"

Expected behavior:
"Ubuntu" appears in the search box at the top and is highlighted in the
document.

Observed behavior:
The search box stays empty and nothing is highlighted in the document.

Workarounds:
* Select "Save File" instead of "Open with" and then open the file outside of
Firefox with Nautilus, terminal etc
or
* Disable the Firefox AppArmor profile with "aa-disable
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox", "service apparmor reload" and then you can
search after selecting "Open with".

You may need to restart Firefox and/or Evince after toggling Firefox's
AppArmor profile for the changes to take effect.

[Bug 1666359] [NEW] Lock screen doesn't cover entire desktop on HiDPI display with draw-user-backgrounds unchecked

2017-02-20 Thread Jeremy Nation
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Private security bug reported:

Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS using Unity
unity-greeter 16.04.2-0ubuntu1

On a HiDPI monitor on a Dell XPS 13 9343 laptop, if you uncheck
com.canonical.unity-greeter -> draw-user-backgrounds and then lock the
desktop:

Expected: the purple placeholder wallpaper should cover the entire desktop
Observed: the purple placeholder wallpaper only covers the top-left part of the
desktop

I'm attaching an image showing roughly what the desktop looks like when
it's locked. The green rectangle is the part covered by the purple
wallpaper, the red is stuff that should not be visible when locked, and
the yellow is the usual name/password entry box that is partially
transparent.

I'm marking this bug as a security vulnerability because it allows
someone to see part of a user's desktop even when the desktop is locked.
