[Bug 931206] Re: Crash when running arbtt-dump or arbtt-stats

2012-05-14 Thread Joachim Breitner
@Jason: That recover is spilling out lots of text is normal, as it is
quite brutally trying to skip some amount of data and continue reading.

The cause could also be a broken read, e.g. when the user logs out
precicely while arbtt-capture is writing data, or maybe two arbtt-
capture instances ran at the same time somehow... but none of this has
ever happened here...

There is a patch for this at

but unfortunately, upstream has become slow to appl y patches to GNOME

[Bug 76796] Re: evolutions consums lots of cpu while pinging imap server

2012-02-02 Thread Joachim Breitner
Not very helpful, but still: I observe a similar condition where the
status bar will show two activities „Pinging server“ and „Checking for
new mail“ that don’t seem to stop. This happens after letting evolution
run for a while, without any obvious cause. I can still work normally in
most folders, but new messages in the INBOX would not appear until I
quit and restart evolution – it seems that one or two of the IMAP
connections are blocked. I do not need to remove any files to get back
to working with evolution, though. Evolution 3.2.2-1 on Debian, Dovecot
Server, using IMAP+.

I have finished the port enough so that the result looks quite similar

In src/lm-color-generator.c there is some functionality not fully
working yet, patches accepted.

[Bug 414865] Re: mount.cifs does not handle umlauts in usernames correctly

2009-09-28 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

these options are already correct by default, as testparm -v says:
unix charset is UTF8, dos charset is 850 and display charset is LOCALE.

Since smbclient and gvfsd work just perfect with umlauts, I think the
problem is either the kernel module or mount.cifs.

Probably the kernel module, as the non-utf8-umlaut turns up in
/proc/mounts (where it then causes gnomevfsd to fail to start, because
it passes this data via dbus and then dbus seems to kill the connection,
which is very bad).

[Bug 414865] [NEW] mount.cifs does not handle umlauts in usernames correctly

2009-08-17 Thread Joachim Breitner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Hi,

I’m trying to deploy Ubuntu Hardy clients in an AD environment. The home
directories are mounted on a Samba file server, also running Ubuntu
Hardy. Both machines have an UTF-8 locale.

It works fine for users without umlauts in their name, but for user with
an umlaut (e.g. „töst“), mount.cifs does not work. smbclient -U töst
works just fine, so it seems to be a cifs problem.

The log messages on the server side show that NTLM authentication for
the user DOMAIN\T??st is tried, where ?? is actually two strange
characters.

Using sec=krb5 did not help here, the server still had a problem with a
wrong username.

Looking at

[Bug 413088] [NEW] ntlm_auth called without a path

2009-08-13 Thread Joachim Breitner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xulrunner-1.9

In version 1.9_1.9.0.11+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 (current on
hardy-updates), but most likely other versions as well, ntlm_auth is
called without a full path, but xulrunner uses execve (and not execvep),
so no PATH resolving happens. With strace, this can be verified (the
execve call returns ENOENT). This prevents automatic single-sign-on to
possibly work at all.

A simple patch is attached.

[Bug 348882] [NEW] Unicode logins via NTLM (i.e. exchange) do not work

2009-03-26 Thread Joachim Breitner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

At this site we would like to deploy Evolution to access the Exchange
server. As it happens, here are usernames with umlauts (i.e. non-ascii-
characters) in use.

This can be fixed by a relatively small change to the NTLM
implementation in libsoup and evolution-data-server (negotiating and
using Unicode instead of 8-bit “OEM” encoding), example patches are on
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=576571 and I’m currently
packaging updated versions of the packages found in hardy.

Is there a chance that this change will then enter hardy-updates?

Thanks,
Joachim

[Bug 347379] Re: regression in xmonad/gnome -interoperability

2009-03-25 Thread Joachim Breitner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288273 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288273

Maybe try removing the ~/.xmonad/xmonad.o and ~/.xmonad/xmonad.hi files
– I’d be surprised to see that libghc6-xmonad-dev depend on
libghc6-x11-dev (= 1.4.2-1) but be built against X11-1.4.1.

Also note that newer pakages are in Debian, maybe they can be merged.

[Bug 117736] Re: pam_mount unable to unmount needs root priv

2008-11-06 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi Mannheim,

are you sure this is caused by problems with missing root persmissions?
In my experience, when gdm this bug does not appear (e.g. cifs mounts
are unmounted properly), while it occurs when using ssh or su.

I’m assuming that your problem is a different bug.

Greetings,
Joachim

[Bug 117736] Re: pam_mount unable to unmount needs root priv

2008-08-25 Thread Joachim Breitner
I compiled openssh 5.1 from intrepid on hardy, but it still does not
work. Strangly, I’m no longer getting an error message from mod_pam that
setuid fails, although pam_unix reports that the session is actually
closed.

2008-08-25 Thread Joachim Breitner
Nevermind, it worked after all. The remaining problem was a left-over
/var/run/pam-mount file. It still doesn’t work for su, BTW.

[Bug 117736] Re: pam_mount unable to unmount needs root priv

2008-08-21 Thread Joachim Breitner
iI have linked a related Debian bug. This seems to be fixed in the new
openssh version 5.1, according to
http://packages.qa.debian.org/o/openssh/news/20080725T104703Z.html

Is this fix important enough to warrant a backport for hardy?

[Bug 203594] Re: xmonad does not have xinerama/twinview support - possibly a libgch6-x11 problem

2008-07-08 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

just a follow up: New versions of haskell-x11, xmonad, xmonad-contrib
have been uploaded to debian that fix this problem. If you merge them
into Ubuntu, you can close this bug.

Greetings,
Joachim

2008-06-15 Thread Joachim Breitner
FYI, some update from the debian side: Igloo promised an update of the
haskell-x11 package once we got ghc6 in testing, and this has happened
now, so any time now this might be fixed. Not sure though when he
get’s around to actually do it. The relevant bug in question is
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=469852 BTW, and status
queries should go to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
