[Bug 1646574] Re: Mouse cursor invisible or does not move

2016-12-20 Thread Johan Ferner
I first see this in the installer and that makes installing Ubuntu a
challenge...
The cursor does move but is invisible so you can kind of guess where you are
supposed to click.
After installing the problem is still present.

Hardware is GTX 1080 on a desktop.

[Bug 1638990] Re: nvidia-367 with kernel 4.4.0-45-generic won't boot

2016-11-07 Thread Johan Ferner
Another workaround that worked for me is to edit /etc/default/grub like so:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"

followed by update-grub2

I am running with full disk encryption.

Installed 340.24 from xorg-edgers on 14.04. Started firefox and google search
home screen flickered like mad. Installed the compiz patch and flickering
stopped. So far the patch is perfect. Will monitor memory consumption after a
full working day.
Thanks for the patch!

I think it would be helpful if the backport in comment #4 was attached as a
patch so we can fix this until it has reached Trusty proper. The patch at
https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/5/2/156 does not apply cleanly for me.
Thanks!

[Bug 1296131] Re: cairo-dock crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_lookup()

2014-03-23 Thread Johan Ferner
Thank you for responding,
I'm using the Radience Unity theme with Ubuntu mono light icons. In the dock
I'm using a custom theme based on mac os x. The crash occurs at least once a
day when I'm developing in java so if you want me to try and change something
in my setup we can have a nice feedback loop.

[Bug 881027] Re: Remmina breaks keyboard repeat in Oneiric

2013-06-09 Thread Johan Ferner
This affects me on 13.04. Using Xvnc and remmina to connect to another 13.04
ubuntu. Checking/unchecking System Settings/Keyboard/Repeat Keys fixed it for
a session. I run remmina on my primary screen in fullscreen on startup.
This did not affect me on 12.10 (discovered remmina on that release).

[Bug 873495] Re: LightDM fails to start after nvidia-current or nvidia-current-updates are installed (upstart job issue)

2012-07-15 Thread Johan Ferner
This continues to be an issue and just occured again on my home machine. My
*feeling* is that it is a race condition triggered when some module needs
compiling or some other attention the boot following an upgrade of some X
related packages. So it is hard to know if it is fixed or not.
Usually I just reboot and everything is OK. But I've seen cases at work where
it is much more persistent.
This is driving my userbase at work mad and is giving 12.04 a bad rep there.
People refuse to upgrade.
Please try to fix this.

Be sure to unselect the kernel from the update tool until this has been fixed

impressive for LTS release if you have this hardware

[Bug 795900] [NEW] [CA0106 - CA0106, playback] No sound at all

2011-06-11 Thread Johan Ferner
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have a system that has lost sound twice.
First I upgraded från 10.? to 11.04. Everything was fine. Then suddenly my
sound stops working. After some time and changing settings I decide to do a
clean 11.04 install.
Great! My sound is back. A week later : same problem again. What can I do to
reset the sound system without having to reinstall? Yes I have tried alsamixer
and other tips from the sound wiki.

One thing that might have triggered the problem: I muted my sound
yesterday (it was working) and turned the computer off for the night
with that setting. Then when I rebooted today and the volume icon was
showing muted. So I unmuted but still nothing.

When my system boots I here a click from the speakers when the sound
card is detected. When the drumroll is supposed to be played at login I
get a short bzzt when the system can't play sound. I login and get
another bzzt. Otherwise the speakers are silent.
