Testing this on my raspberry pi (so, you know, exactly like a production
cluster)
I don't get any errors when uploading a 3GB file (at least until I run out of
space). So I wonder if this is only because of the mocking i the unit tests.

Although I don't think that SSL should be completely removed from swift,
I do agree with Andrew that it should never be used in production on the
proxy server. Python's SSL handling also causes the ssl sockets to block
and severely limits concurrent connections.
SSL support in the proxy is useful

I had the same issue upgrading from natty to oneiric.
In my case I was able to resolve the issue by running aptitude, which
indicated my system was broken. It's default resolution, where it
removed over a hundred packages, fixed the problem for me, after a
reboot.

Roman, I tried the new nvidia driver (177.82) and cannot reproduce the
error anymore. It seems to have fixed the issue for me.
