Re: [Bug 610055] Re: [pm-utils][maverick] system stutters, freezes, hangs, gratuitous 'Commit=0' errors

2013-12-16 Thread John Hunt
Hello,

I seem to recall this was a hardware fault in my case therefore for me it's
OK to close this bug.

Thanks,
John

[Bug 610055] Re: [pm-utils][maverick] system stutters, freezes, hangs, gratuitous 'Commit=0' errors

2010-11-28 Thread John Hunt
I can confirm that my system actually has broken hardware, which could
well have been the cause of this issue for me (and perhaps others.) It
only showed up on a memtest running patterns - can someone else please
run a memtest overnight and see if they too have an issue?

I've been running win7 instead of Ubuntu because of this bug but today
started getting a lot of blue screening. Fortunately my thinkpad is
still under warranty.

[Bug 610055] Re: [pm-utils][maverick] system stutters, freezes, hangs, gratuitous 'Commit=0' errors

2010-11-04 Thread John Hunt
Does anyone have a suitable / easy work around for this bug? The easiest
solution I've come up with is to install 10.04 instead.

[Bug 461769] Re: ath9k driver randomly disconnects and can only reconnect by reloading the module

2010-03-30 Thread John Hunt
I get the same thing (ish) on Lucid:

[784301.751891] ath9k: timeout (10 us) on reg 0x9860: 0x00049d19
0x0001 != 0x
[784301.751900] ath9k: Unable to reset channel (2412 Mhz) reset status -5
[784301.751917] ath9k: Unable to set channel
[784302.172887] ath9k: timeout (10 us) on reg 0x9c20: 0x
0x0001 != 0x0001
[784302.172896] ath9k: Could not kill baseband RX
[784302.294381] ath9k: timeout (10 us) on reg 0x9860: 0x00049d19
0x0001 != 0x
[784302.294390] ath9k: Unable to reset channel (2417 Mhz) reset status -5

This was after 9 days of fairly average usage (no big downloads or
anything.) Kernel is 2.6.32-16-generic on amd64.

My network card is an edimax pci card. Router is billion BiPAC 7300N
running in wpa/psk mode with g and n modes enabled.

I notice I also got: [784302.172896] ath9k: Could not kill baseband RX

Again, reloading the module fixed the issue.

2010-03-29 Thread John Hunt
This bug also affects me on Lucid (apt-upgraded on the 28th March 2010)

The source on ralink's site is pretty ugly, but has worked as a work
around for some time.

This is a fairly popular driver, and although people might not *need*
802.11n, I believe it's more important what with all the HD video we're
trying to stream from our Ubuntu machines these days.

[Bug 220759] Re: Please Disable Pulse Audio In New Hardy Installs

2008-06-17 Thread John Hunt
I agree this *is* a bug. What once worked properly in a previous version
(skype/flash for example) no longer works.

I have no right to rant on (I sure didn't pay for Ubuntu and nobody for
forced me to install it!), but there must be literally thousands of
users wondering why their commonly used applications no longer work in
Hardy where they once worked just fine.

The kind of user this will be affecting most is the new user who doesn't
know about IRC, or these bug reports etc. PulseAudio is a great sound
server. This effectively renders programs such as Skype useless for this
rather large group of users. This is easily enough to put a large chunk
of users off Ubuntu all together.

Obviously it's a good idea to push these new technologies, but I think
this was a poor choice at this time. I think a really good solution
could be (or still can be) to have the option of disabling pulseaudio
(perhaps a little popup balloon thing shortly after installation of
ubuntu.)

Perhaps if enough people voice their opinion, something will happen. I
apologise if this sounds like a rant, but I truly believe this is a bug
in Ubuntu.

[Bug 117726] Re: [gutsy] muine crashes on adding music to the playlist

2008-02-18 Thread John Hunt
I also get this problem. What a shame! This should most definitely be
marked as a bug to be patched via auto-updates. Otherwise it should
simply be removed from the repos as it just doesn't work.
