[Bug 772612] Re: maximized window is displaced

2012-03-29 Thread John Watson
This happens for me too in Oneiric. I've been on Oneiric since October
but I don't recall having this problem until the past month and now it's
a daily occurrence. All I have to do is maximize a window, minimize it,
then restore it again. The problem occurs whether the window is fully
maximize (Alt-F10) or if it's just maximized to fill the desktop area
(Ctrl-Alt-Numpad5).

[Bug 884597] Re: search as you type not working properly

2011-11-03 Thread John Watson
This isn't a duplicate of #857710. In that bug report, the backspace key
worked to erase characters in the search box. In this bug, the search
box keeps the previous search string and backspace doesn't work.

[Bug 573691] Re: Chrome bookmarks are cropped when Ambiance theme or Radiance theme is selected

Confirming that I have exactly the same symptoms after upgrading to

problem goes away immediately when I switch the desktop theme to Human

[Bug 428619] Re: pulseaudio crackle/distortion with cs46xx on latest update

I have an old Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card using the CS46xx driver
and was having exactly these symptoms after upgrading to Karmic (audio
with pulseaudio was working perfectly in Jaunty). Switching output to
the onboard audio (Realtek ALC883) made the problem completely go away.

[Bug 310750] [NEW] Evince won't open USPS Click-n-Ship label

2008-12-22 Thread John Watson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I purchased a Click-N-Ship label from usps.com, delivered as a
downloadable PDF file. Evince immediately exits with Segmentation
fault as soon as I try to open it. The document viewer window opens
briefly, displays Loading then closes.

I was able to open and print these labels on Ubuntu Hardy. I don't know
if the problem is a new version of Evince or possibly a change in the
PDF files from USPS. I can print the label just fine using Adobe Reader
8.1.3. As soon as the label is opened in Adobe Reader, it shows the
print dialog.

This is evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1. I have a copy of the label but I won't
upload it because it has a third-party's personal information on it. If
a developer wants a copy I'll email it to you.

[Bug 274661] Re: Firefox freezes with various Flash Uploaders from different web pages

2008-11-20 Thread John Watson
The Flash related uploading problem in Wordpress 2.6.x is caused by a
change in Flash 10 made by Adobe. See
http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6979

I'm experiencing this with Flickr.com and Vimeo. The browser UI goes
grey and becomes unresponsive. BUT, the uploads do progress and
eventually complete and when they do the browser comes back to life. For
some reason the upload seems to be blocking the rest of the browser.

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust, when AutoAddDevices is on

2008-11-10 Thread John Watson
I noticed the same problem as Nolan. Further, I was able to modify my
settings using the System Preferences Keyboard GUI until today. I
tried changing the repeat rate with kbdrate and then noticed that the
settings in the GUI didn't have any effect any more.

I've been tracking down keyboard repeat bugs since Friday. I wonder if
this bug might be somehow related?
