Yes, it IS pesent in Windows too. Just checked it in Vista SP1, and not
only with my ears, but also with smartmontools and hdparm for Windows.
Vista does the same as Ubuntu: nothing... it just let's the hdd manage
itself. I fixed it in Linux with setting hdparm to 254 while on AC mode
and 128

I use Ubuntu Intrepid and when I set the brightness with Fn+Up or
Fn+Down the progress bar goes all the way up (or down) as if the keys
were stuck then. The brightness changes as desired but I can no longer
input any text from the keyboard or clicks from the mouse/touchpad.

automount my partitions after I installed them, but not Hardy. It automounted

I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 and I just updated to KDE 4.1. When I close Kate,
they gui dissapears, but I can still find this with ps ax: 11350 ?
S 0:00 /usr/lib/kde4/bin/kate --use. That means it didn't close

extracted the files mplayer and mencoder from it, and replaced the ones in

When I said manually fixing, I ment: dpkg --configure -a
If installs some of the packages. Then I had to try later when the other
packages were available in the repos. I was using the standard source.list of

I also downgraded, because I could not live without Opera ;)
I found the package here: https://launchpad.net/+builds/+build/315774/libx11-6
After I installed it Opera ran smoothly, although installing this package only,
gives me this in terminal:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ opera
ERROR: ld.so: object
I don't think this update will be removed, because this was a security
update:

I too found myself in situations like this. I think it's because the mirrors.
When I was using the romanian mirrors as repos, it happened very often. It's
very frustrating as you have to manually fix the problem every time this
happens.
How about first synching the packages, and only after that

a Live CD session.
Where you using Gnome or KDE and how much memory did you have? (I'm trying to
reproduce it here in VMware)

Anyone please fix this problem? We're getting close to Feisty release,
and still it's impossible to install a deb file from a directory which
has spaces in it's path.
