Tried to rebuild plymouth with tracing and got a bit more information.
Looks like it is session-pseudoterminal_master_fd = posix_openpt
(O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY); that fails in open_pseudoterminal function. The
statement returns -1 and errno is set to No such file or directory.

I can confirm this issue. Kpackagekit basically fails whenever you have
to answer any questions or supply any information during installation.
One other example is when you install mysql-server package. Installation
fails because you have to supply the mySQL root password.

Due to a change in exiv2 (v.0.18) package Rawstudio crashes on export of
RAW images. Reason is that one of the Nikon maker tags was renamed in
v.0.18. This happens in Jaunty and is a regression error as it used to
work until exiv2 was updated

1. Have you installed all updates to 8.10?
2. What type of connection do you have? Wireless, ethernet...?
3. Have you checked the auto connect check box when you create a new connection?
