[Bug 1773611] Re: Calamares not removed from installation; "Install System" in System Tools

2018-06-26 Thread Jonathan Carter
Seems like this bug should rather be filed against calamares-settings-
lubuntu, since that's where removed packages are defined.

[Bug 1390012] [NEW] /etc/init.d/ssh stop does not stop ssh server processes

2014-11-06 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

Running /etc/init.d/ssh stop does not result in ssh server being
stopped. Running service ssh stop works fine.

As a result, running /etc/init.d/ssh restart does not restart sshd so
new settings from sshd_config won't be loaded.

Using service ssh restart works fine, but ideally using the init
script should still work as long as it's still there.

@James It's a complicated backport, since it depends on almost all of
GTK and other libraries, so it would take a huge effort to properly
backport. Precise users will unfortunately have to rely on a PPA for the
latest Gimp until 14.04 is released.

[Bug 1055635] [NEW] Enable gnome-fallback by default for LTSP Setups

Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.10, Unity does no direct rendering which means that all
graphics processing takes place on the server on LTSP.

This has a huge negative impact on server performance to the point where

We should probably change the default desktop environment to gnome-
fallback when LTSP is selected from the installer. Users who enable
diskless fat clients will still be able to make Unity the default.

Public bug reported:

See also: LP#: 1054282

We do not want to expose users of Edubuntu to any inappropriate content.
Additionally, we would like to avoid shopping suggestions in Edubuntu as it
goes against the goals of keeping Edubuntu free.
The software also has some serious security problems, like sending potentially
private user data in cleartext over the network that makes it unfit for use in
Edubuntu.

[Bug 1055769] [NEW] [UIFe] Rocs icon not installed by default

2012-09-24 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

The Rocs package does not install its icon by default. This results in
an ugly menu entry in Edubuntu by default.

The fix is simple and low-impact, adding the following to debian/rocs.install
does the job:
graphics/icon.svg usr/share/icons/Rocs.svg

[Bug 1046840] Re: [UIFE][FFE] Install Amazon and Ubuntu One Music Store webapp items in the launcher by default

2012-09-20 Thread Jonathan Carter
Adding to Stéphane's message about Adding to Stéphane's message
regarding Edubuntu, it's really about more than just using extra space
in the launcher.

We'd like to keep Edubuntu a free system, which includes making it free
of any adware as far as possible. We already have text advertising
Landscape in the default motd, links to Ubuntu One in the panel, etc. I
understand Canonical's intent and right to make some money out of the
affiliate codes, but maybe we can think of better ways to do that in
Edubuntu than spamming the desktop system with links.

[Bug 1046345] [NEW] [ffe] Change from gnote to tomboy in Edubuntu

2012-09-05 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

Edubuntu included gnote as a trial since we wanted to reduce
dependencies on mono at some point.

After evaluating gnote, we found that it was incomplete and has
stability problems.

Since we're still including mono anyway, it would be best to stick with
Tomboy for now.

We mean to change this before feature freeze but it escaped our radar.
We know Tomboy is known to work and consider it beneficial for the
Edubuntu 12.10 release to ship with something that works well as a note
taking app.

[Bug 1043654] Re: [FFe] New version of zentyal-samba

2012-09-04 Thread Jonathan Carter
Jorge asked me to provide some comment on the FFe request.

This update doesn't seem to affect anything else outside of Zentyal
itself (which it only seems to improve). It seems like a low-risk
updates and if there are minor issues then there is at least still time
to fix it, it seems better to get these changes in sooner rather than
later for that reason.

[Bug 1032256] [NEW] Incorrect menu items appear in Edubuntu due to incorrect path in debian/edubuntu-artwork.install

2012-08-02 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

[Rationale]

In the Edubuntu Unity and Gnome-Fallback sessions, Nepomuk Backup and
Nepomuk File Indexing Controller still appears in the menus.

These are only really useful in KDE, and to hide them, we added override
desktop entries that were placed in /usr/share/ubuntu/applications.

In precise, this path changed to /usr/share/ubuntu/gnome-fallback for
the fallback session.

[Impact]

Users see two extra menu entries that shouldn't be there. It's low-
impact, but it's a regression.

[Test Case]

In the Gnome Fallback session, click on Applications and navigate to
System Tools. There should be no Nepomuk entries.

[Regression Potential]

Please add if any.

[Bug 997282] Re: sudo doesn't uninstall completely

2012-07-09 Thread Jonathan Carter
Sitting next to Bdale (the package maintainer of sudo/sudo-ldap) here at
Debconf. I showed him the bug and he committed it to
http://git.gag.com/?p=debian/sudo;a=summary in around 2 minutes. :)

It might not make it into Wheezy unless there's another critical bug for
the package, however, I'll test it and upload it to Quantal in the
meantime and then look at backporting it. Assigning the bug to me.

I was planning on enabling it in all deployments I do anyway, also add a

If it could be enabled by default it would save a lot of people some
trouble.

This doesn't occur in the installed system. After discussing it with
Stéphane, it's probably best to fix this in the gtk-css for the
installer. Assigning to him and affecting package ubiquity.

[Bug 981049] [NEW] LTSP needs a non-intrusive method to set a default session

2012-04-13 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

Currently, the default lts.conf file in Edubuntu looks like this:

# see http://edubuntu.org/documentation for more information

[default]
  LDM_THEME=edubuntu
  LANG=en_US.UTF-8
  LANGUAGE=en_CA.UTF-8
  LDM_LANGUAGE=en_CA.UTF-8
  LDM_SESSION=gnome-session --session=gnome-fallback

LDM_SESSION sets the session to gnome-fallback, which is ok for a
default, however, if Unity 2D is installed and a user selects it, the
user will get Gnome Fallback again for subsequent logins.

LTSP needs a lts.conf tag like LDM_DEFAULT_SESSION, where a default
session can be specified, but when a user has something else specified
in .dmrc it would be used instead. This does not currently exist in
LTSP/LDM.

[Bug 967398] [NEW] setools: apol does not does not find SETools libraries

2012-03-28 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

This bug is fixed in Debian, but still present in Precise:

From http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=604433:

Version: 3.3.6.ds-7.2+b1
Severity: normal

apol fails to start and gives this message:
Initializing libqpol... done.
Initializing libapol... done.
Initializing libsefs... done.
Initializing libapol_tcl... done.
Initializing Tk... The SETools libraries could not be found in one of these
subdirectories:
y/usr/share/tcltk/tcl8.4
/usr/lib
/usr/local/lib/tcltk
/usr/local/share/tcltk
/usr/lib/tcltk
/usr/share/tcltk
/usr/lib/setools
/usr/lib/setools/apol
/usr/lib/setools/apol_tcl
/usr/lib/setools/sefs
/usr/lib/setools/qpol
/usr/lib/setools/poldiff
/usr/lib/setools/seaudit

This is fixed since setools 3.3.7-1, unfortunately that package includes
a host of other changes and it's unlikely to be synced after beta2. I am
preparing a debdiff with the fix for apol only so that TCL modules will
always be compiled against the current TCL version.

[Bug 950157] Re: [UIFe] Lubuntu LDM Theme

2012-03-09 Thread Jonathan Carter
Hey Julian, I can use it but I might have to make it somewhat lighter,
like how I did with the previous one. The problem with LDM is that it's
theming is very limited, you can choose one text colour and a wallpaper
and a logo, so to avoid having contrast problems I might have to alter
it slightly. I'll use the wallpaper you specified and send a link to an
updated screenshot for an ack. Thanks for the feedback!

[Bug 950157] Re: [UIFe] Lubuntu LDM Theme

2012-03-08 Thread Jonathan Carter
This isn't for LightDM, this is for LDM (the LTSP Login Manager). There
currently isn't a theme for LTSP in Ubuntu, so if you run LTSP from a
Lubuntu host you will get the default Ubuntu or LTSP
(http://people.ubuntu.com/~jonathan/files/precise/ldm/ldm-blue.png)
theme.

I went and created a LDM theme for Lubuntu (the screenshot I already
mention in the original bug report). Since we're bast UIF and Beta
Freeze, I just need an acknowledgement from a Lubuntu developer in order
to upload this. Otherwise Lubuntu will just get the default theming for
LDM for LTSP on 12.04.

[Bug 856460] Re: ltsp-live fails to configure internal NIC

2012-02-01 Thread Jonathan Carter
I had the same problem with Virtualbox with 2x virtual Intel e1000 on
Edubuntu 12.04 alpha 2

To fix it, you have to go to your guest's network settings and under

I'm marking this bug as invalid since it's not technically an ltsp-live

[Bug 785280] Re: transparency not working with intel driver and LTSP

2011-06-20 Thread Jonathan Carter
nomodeset gets rid of the transparency problem, but my resolution falls
back to 1024x768 when I do that. Is there a way around that or do I just
need to configure X manually on these machines?

I did a git bisect on the intel driver to attempt to find where this was
introduced. I ended up using pretty much the whole old intel driver as
is that worked before and the problem was still present. My guess is
that this isn't an intel driver specific issue and might have been
introduced somewhere else in the X stack. Any suggestions at where I
should look first? I'll probably try the mesa libraries next.

[Bug 771401] [NEW] Ubiquity disk requirements are excessive

2011-04-26 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Through the Beta and RC releases, Edubuntu installed fine on my 8GB
virtual disks.

In the final isos, Ubiquity doesn't allow me to progress past the
initial checks page since I don't have 14.1GB free space available

We can specify that Edubuntu requires a 20GB disk in the release notes,
but this is suboptimal since there's no reason why it couldn't work just
as fine on a 10GB (or even smaller) disk.

I suspect this will affect other releases too.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
 Status: New

[Bug 746028] Re: Edubuntu: Wallpapers are not updated on upgrade to Natty

2011-04-19 Thread Jonathan Carter
How bizarre. In both Stéphane and my case, we installed a brand new
maverick machine, installed all the updates, and then used update
manager again to upgrade to the latest development release. And it's
reproducible every singe time on Ubuntu and Edubuntu. I'll look a bit
deeper today to see what actually happens in our systems. I really
thought it would be easier for everyone else to reproduce. Thanks for
the screenshot :)

[Bug 758850] Re: UOCP offers installing desktopcouch-ubuntuone, reports installation failure when installed

2011-04-18 Thread Jonathan Carter
Hi Naty, there was a problem with a build last week where we had an old
livefs for 64bit, so I might have had an old system. I'm going to mark
this as fixed. Thanks!

Didier, did you happen to explicitly test it for maverick - natty
upgrade? That's the only case where this bug occurs.

directory being the / directory.

$HOME is set to my home directory correctly.

[Bug 758838] [NEW] Restarting compiz in Unity results in mixed environment session

2011-04-12 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Restarting compiz (at least in VirtualBox) from Unity results in a mixed
Classic Desktop / Unity environment session (screenshot attached). When
hovering over gnome-panel you sometimes get the unity panel and
sometimes the gnome-panel.

Not sure if it's a bug, but this should probably be prevented from
happening.

[Bug 758850] [NEW] UOCP offers installing desktopcouch-ubuntuone, reports installation failure when installed

2011-04-12 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

This is on today's natty daily build with a clean install.

When running the Ubuntu One Control Panel and authenticating against the
service, it suggests that I should have desktopcouch-ubuntuone installed
and offers to install it. When clicking to confirm it seems to install
it just fine, but reports that it could not be installed. Doing an apt-
get install desktopcouch-ubuntuone from the terminal confirms that the
package is already installed.

Screenshot attached.

[Bug 759080] [NEW] DHCP Server is not installed with Edubuntu LTSP Installer

2011-04-12 Thread Jonathan Carter
Public bug reported:

Edubuntu has a Ubiquity plugin that installs ltsp-server-standalone when
selected.

This is installed fine, but the transitional package, dhcp3-server (for
isc-dhcp-server) is not installed. dhcp3-server is a recommends for
ltsp-server-standalone.

The packages are in the installation media pool and installs just fine
if I do it manually afterwards.

I'm marking this as high since it's a highly visible and highly
advertised feature of Edubuntu and it worked fine until now.
