[Bug 885740] Re: Ghemical Doesn't run under Ubuntu 11.10 (undefined symbol: _ZTIN2sc7RefBaseE)

2012-02-16 Thread Jordan Mantha
Carlos,

You should be able to install the binary .deb files and not worry about
building from source. Are you on 32-bit or 64-bit Ubuntu? I could point
you to the specific .deb files to download. This particular fix has been
included in what will be the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 release.

[Bug 885740] Re: Ghemical Doesn't run under Ubuntu 11.10 (undefined symbol: _ZTIN2sc7RefBaseE)

2011-11-27 Thread Jordan Mantha
Carlos,
Michael and Daniel have been working hard on getting updated packages for
Ghemical and friends uploaded to Debian. At this point I think most everything
should be in. If I were you I'd grab the updated mpqc (2.3.1-10) [0],
liboglappth (1.0.0-1) [1], libghemical (3.0.0-1) [2], and ghemical (3.0.0-1)
[3] when they're all done building.

At this point I'm not sure how quickly fixed can be pushed through
official Ubuntu channels, but grabbing the packages from Debian should
work in the interim.

[Bug 820183] [NEW] network management notifications should be off by default

2011-08-02 Thread Jordan Mantha
Public bug reported:

Since the network management plasmoid has very good graphics for showing
the status of the network it seems a bit overkill to have notifications
for network management. Currently the only notification for network
management that is enabled by default is The network management
subsystem was stopped or restarted which doesn't seem like something
most users would want as a notification. I get this notification when
resuming from suspend/hibernation.

[Bug 820189] [NEW] GNOME notification daemon started if GNOME app is started before plasma

2011-08-02 Thread Jordan Mantha
Public bug reported:

This is a bit hard to explain so bear with me. I use Pidgin for IM and
since I have the restore previous session option enabled (I think it
is default) it usually gets started on login. If Pidgin is started at
login I get the old ugly GNOME notifications (yellow ugly box) plus the
regular KDE notifications. If Pidgin is not started at login, but after
everything has loaded up then I only get the KDE notifications.

I've noticed that when Pidgin is started at login and I get the GNOME
notifications, there is a notification-daemon process as well as
knotify4. If Pidgin is started after login I only see a knotify4
process.

[Bug 499619] [NEW] Sync qcad 2.0.5.0-1+090318-2 (main) from Debian testing (main)

2009-12-22 Thread Jordan Mantha
Public bug reported:

Please sync qcad 2.0.5.0-1+090318-2 (main) from Debian testing (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The Ubuntu delta was adding Categories to the desktop file. That has
now been fixed in the Debian revision below.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 2.0.5.0-1-5ubuntu1:

qcad (2.0.5.0-1+090318-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Adding remaining patches from unstable
+ 30-paths as define-debian-paths.patch
+ 60-qcad-doc-hint as add-hint-about-qcad-doc.patch
+ 70-about.txt as create-about_txt.patch
  * Add Categories to desktop file (Closes: #512600). Thanks Gabriel Ruiz.
  * Add Recommends: cups-client (Closes: #520741). Thanks David Erosa.
  * Update debian/watch
  * Migrating new debian/rules to unstable

qcad (2.0.5.0-1+090318-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream version. RibbonSoft's community edition of QCad has been
stalled for years (they are still working on their non-free version).
A fork called qcad-free was started by Jani Frilander, including many
bugfixes, polyline support, and additional arc modes.
  * Fully reworked debian/rules using debhelper 7 tiny rules
  * Now quilt instead of dpatch
  * Updated patches
+ 05-Makefile removed (unneeded with new debian/rules)
+ 10-buildscript removed (unneeded with new debian/rules)

  * Adding missing entries to debian/copyright

[Bug 432819] Re: software-center doesn't respect X-AppInstall-AlwaysOnTop

2009-10-12 Thread Jordan Mantha
Michael,

Better yet, Edubuntu got rid of the Add-on CD for Karmic so as far as
we're concerned the the lack of addon cd handling is no problem. I'm
sure other people would like to use it at some point though so it might
be nice to include it at some point.

[Bug 391385] Re: gcompris does not start on 9.04 amd64

2009-10-06 Thread Jordan Mantha
Yeah, sorry, I should have been more clear in my explanation. I wasn't
saying that it wasn't the distro's responsibility to fix the issue. Yes,
the fix is easy, however because of a technical issue that is out of my
control we can't put the fix into the jaunty-updates repository. python-
numeric is in the Universe component and gcompris is in Main. A strictly
enforced rule is that a Main package can't depend on a Universe package.
What Edubuntu can do is provide a fixed up package in a semi-official
Edubuntu PPA where such rules aren't in place. Would that at least help?

Karmic Koala (9.10) won't have this problem, btw.

Re: [Bug 444170] Re: empathy started automatically on incoming message

On Tue, Oct 6, 2009 at 12:27 AM, Ken VanDine ken.vand...@canonical.com wrote:
I think this is an issue with the indicator-session-applet talking to
mission-control (via libempathy) to set the status.  It supports pidgin
as well, but I don't think it makes a decision which to use.  Perhaps it
should.  So it sets your status as online, which tells mission-control
you are only.   It does not need empathy to be running to do this, and
you appear to be online to your contacts.  If they send an email,
telepathy handles the incoming message because it is online even though
you have no client running and spawns the client so you can read the
 message.

Overall this is pretty cool behavior, but we should be able to make a
decision how you would prefer to handle your messages.

Is this autospawning behavior configurable, i.e. can I turn it off? I
can see where it could very nice for some people, but I really don't
need programs automatically starting up when I get emails or IMs. It's
super confusing and quite invasive. I use my Ubuntu machine at work and
I don't need the latest tweets/dents/Ubuntu email popping up and
starting programs while Im showing my boss something.

[Bug 444170] [NEW] empathy started automatically on incoming message

2009-10-05 Thread Jordan Mantha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-session

I'm not sure exactly how this works so bear with me.

I have both pidgin and empathy installed. I had pidgin running but not
empathy (at least I don't think I did, it's very hard to tell if it is
or not) and I received an incoming message. It looked to me like empathy
was started up and I received the message in both empathy and pidgin.

Obviously if I have pidgin running I want the messages going there, and
it's confusing and redundant to open another IM client.

[Bug 432819] Re: software-store doesn't respect X-AppInstall-AlwaysOnTop

2009-09-23 Thread Jordan Mantha
While we could use add/remove on the Edubuntu DVD, the primary purpose
of the change was to allow Ubuntu users to install Edubuntu software
selections from the internet without having to use the Edubuntu
installation disk. So either software-store needs the implementation or
we'll just do without for Karmic. In the whole scheme of things it's not
the end of the world if it doesn't happen for Karmic, but it is a
regression for Edubuntu and its deployment strategy.

[Bug 432819] Re: software-store doesn't respect X-AppInstall-AlwaysOnTop

2009-09-19 Thread Jordan Mantha
 The spec is located at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Specs/UbuntuJaunty/EducationAppBundles . mvo did
the actual implementation so the spec is a little light on details. The
idea is that an alphabetical listing is fine for general browsing of if
you know the name of what you want, but it presents a problem if you
want to make some packages (like metapackages) brought to the forefront.
We didn't want to create a whole separate section in the g-a-i window
because the idea is to have the window reflect the actual application
menu the user sees.

[Bug 432819] [NEW] software-store doesn't respect X-AppInstall-AlwaysOnTop

2009-09-18 Thread Jordan Mantha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-store

Gnome-app-install uses the X-AppInstall-AlwaysOnTop to float certain
items to the top of a category. Edubuntu uses this in the Education
category as a delivery device for educational application bundles.

As this was an approved spec in Jaunty and software-store is officially
replacing gnome-app-install, it is a regression for Edubuntu.

[Bug 286655] Re: KTouch doesn't have a Spanish or Latinamerican keymap

2009-09-14 Thread Jordan Mantha
I don't think at this point Edubuntu has resources for Hardy. I'm also
thinking that even though it would be nice to include these additional
keymaps for our spanish and latinoamerican users it is perhaps wise not
to disturb the existing KDE Edu packages in Hardy by triggering a
rebuild to add two files.

Expected result: Graph should be released when mouse button is

Issue is seen on both intrepid and jaunty versions of gnumeric (1.8.3
  and 1.8.4).

Since graphs are a vital part of gnumeric this makes the application
highly crippled to all users running stock versions in intrepid and
  jaunty.

- A backport of the new version from karmic or a patch to solve it would
- be essential to make this application usable for one of it's core areas.
-
- Existing upstream patch modifies foocanvas to work around behaviour
- change in gtk 2.14
+ The bug exists in the goffice library gnumeric uses for plotting. An
+ existing upstream patch (currently in Karmic's version) modifies

This fix won't be able to make the normal -updates repos because libsdl1

[Bug 235416] Re: gcompris localised audio files are recommended not dependencies

2009-06-09 Thread Jordan Mantha
There is really nothing we can really do in gcompris to fix this. The
way dependencies work in apt does not allow us to know before-hand that
gcompris-sound-es should be installed. The only thing we could do is
make gcompris depend on *all* sound packages, which is not reasonable
due to the large size (which is the reason they are split up in the
first place). We can perhaps try to do something within the Edubuntu
meta packages though to make it easier so I'm opening a task for that.

[Bug 383948] [NEW] MIR: please (re)promote gnet to Main

2009-06-05 Thread Jordan Mantha
Public bug reported:

I'm working on merging gcompris from Debian and a dependency on libgnet
has been introduced in the newer version of for one of its activities.
Up to Hardy gnet was in Main and has had only 1 new version since then.
There are no Ubuntu changes and 0 bugs in Launchpad. Please consider
promoting gnet again to Main.

** Affects: gnet (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 383133] Re: Sync gcompris 8.4.12-1 (main) from Debian testing (main).

2009-06-03 Thread Jordan Mantha
You didn't explain what the Ubuntu changes were and why they can be
dropped, are you sure this is a sync and not a merge? Also, libgnet-dev
is in Universe so a sync right now would cause gcompris to FTBFS. It is
helpful to test build packages from Main in a Main-only chroot or run
rmadison on any new deps to make sure that there is no component
mismatches.

** Changed in: gcompris (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete
