[Bug 1244285] Re: Date/time sometimes doesn’t appear in menu bar, settings greyed out (Ubuntu 13.10, 14.04)

2014-04-12 Thread Jorge Q
I'm also an affected user. Today after the first startup of the machine
the indicator dissapear. I applied the solution of Billisaacs (in the
other duplicated thread) after just killing the the unity panel this
appears in my terminal.

**@MyComputer:~$ apt-get install indicator-datetime
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
**@MyComputer:~$ killall unity-panel-service
**@MyComputer:~$

And after that, the datetime indicator appears. I have to note that I
killed the unity panel service and the datetime indicator before, but
it didn't appear and my Date time settings continued grayed. After run
the Billisaacs solution everything was fine. So, maybe for some reason,
the lock file is not cleared properly after upgrade which (I think)
explains why it affects only the user who uses more the machine, which
usually is the same user who do the updates.

My two cents and sorry for my English. I'm not a native speaker.

2013-11-09 Thread Jorge Q
I noticed that even though the muon window is opened and the progres bar
is bouncing, you can after a while from the CLI to update and upgrade,
so the package database is freed at some point but the muon window
doesn't close. My 2 cents.

[Bug 775518] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-06-15 Thread Jorge Q
The problem affect to me too, sometimes the keyboard is freezed but the
mouse pointer is visible and working. Other programs are running too.
Another issue that could be related is when I play in full screen and I
quit the game then the display is a mess; then I have to go to terminal
(ctrl+alt+Fx) and then return to the the graphical session
(Ctrl+alt+F8). My laptop is a Toshica Satellite L645 with AMD 64 bits
three cores processor and my video card is a ATI mobility Radeon 4280(?)
with ATI installed drivers. I think is with udev part of Xorg the
problem and the suspend or hibernation system because not always happen
usually when the laptop is idling for long periods. My Ubuntu is 11.04
x64 and was upgraded from 10.10. If you need more information, please
let me know and tell me how to do it.

[Bug 550891] Re: internal speakers do not mute if in dockingstation

2010-10-28 Thread Jorge Q
After the upgrade to 10.10 the sound is only for the speakers. If I plug
the headphones the speakers continue working but no sound on headphones.
Now the internal microphone doesn´t work and the sound card now is a
Conexant CX20585.

But if I put in alsa-base.conf the line options snd-hda-intel
model=ideapad all is working, so maybe it could be the fix or workaround
someone need.

[Bug 550891] Re: internal speakers do not mute if in dockingstation

2010-08-19 Thread Jorge Q
Hi, I have the same problem with my laptop Toshiba Satellite L645, when
I plug headphones speakers don't mute. alsamixer shows very simple sound
card, Master, PCM, Mic and Mic-1.

The sound works, but PCM slider don't have any effect only master. I
read a lot of solutions and changes to alsa-base.conf to auto and lots
more without success. There are some outputs from CLI

aplay -l

 Lista de PLAYBACK dispositivos hardware
tarjeta 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], dispositivo 0: HDA Generic [HDA Generic]
  Subdispositivos: 1/1
  Subdispositivo #0: subdevice #0

 0 [SB ]: HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB
HDA ATI SB at 0xf430 irq 16

cat /proc/asound/version

I notice that Conexant ID 5069 isn't in the list of /usr/share/doc/alsa-
base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz and ALSA version isn't the latest.

Thanks.

PD: If you need some more informatios don't hesitate for it.

[Bug 499937] Re: [master] install/remove buttons don't react when policykit is not running

2010-08-18 Thread Jorge Q
I found the reason of the problem and I feel like a stupid, but maybe
could happened to others, the problem is that without notice I login in
GNOME failsafe mode and that's the problem with generalized
authentication problems, so is good to review if someone else is login
in the same way and one of the effects is that from Ubuntu center
software install button don't do anything.

I'm sorry for the noise and thanks, I'll continue with the sound
problem.

[Bug 591129] Re: Install Button not Working - nothing happens

2010-08-17 Thread Jorge Q
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 499937 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499937

Maybe the problem in bigger than that, because I have the same problem
after reinstall pulseaudio (because headphones don't mute speakers)
startup applications doesn't work (specially nm-applet --sm-disable is
the most important, maybe the policy kit), Installation by Ubuntu
software center the same problem than here, In Ubuntu tweak I cannot
unlock anything and some administratives task cannot do since pulse
audio uninstall for instance, I cannot change my own user privileges or
activate propietary drivers and my folders (Documents, Downloads,
Public, etc) in the left panel of Nautilis dissapear and cannot put them
n its original place, among others task and weird things. Take in
account that my user is a sudoer and all this stuff worked before.
Another friend had the same problem and follow the steps to update pulse
audio and the same.

I try removing completely (even home directory) and recreate my user
from another sudoer and again the same problems. But if I create a new
administrator user, it have everything correct, something in another
place that have a record for users permissions or something is the
problem, because even re creating the problematic user cannot recover
its original situation.

I expect that this give you some clues about this problem or still
better maybe exists a solution from another problem described here.

[Bug 435805] Re: Icons overlap for categories with = 9 rows

2010-03-22 Thread Jorge Q
Well I install kamic yesterday and update in a HP Mini 110 but the
problem that you document here is the same in spanish. On games tab for
example, I install some games and in the third row the icons are very
large as you can see, the workaround after googling is uncheck some
games and after recheck them and the problem dissapear apparently. But
this workaround doesn't work in Administration panel in system tab. The
first two rows are overlapped and these icons aren't in Menu
configuration, are put there for another process. I attach this two
problems. The UI is original in some way, but have serious problems and
aren't solved even after a cycle. This bug should have more priority
because is THE UI the first impression, the tool most used, because
throught it the users access all others and if that has a lot of
annoying problems, and isn't solved well is time to rethink priority
criteria and adjust it.

Thanks.

Well, I install java from sun's .bin archive and the same, but the

[Bug 103933] Re: Java install via Add/Remove crashed

2008-05-13 Thread Jorge Q
Hello me again:

Nop, with or without ln I have the same result, so, I have something
wrong. The error I posted before don't appear exactly the same because I
have LD_LIBRARY_PATH pointing to libjli.so directory then appear about
libjava.so, but if I comment that line on my .profile the original error
appear. Can someone explain me how to correct this error?

Thanks in advance

[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work

2008-05-09 Thread Jorge Q
Hello:

Well, YES!!!, it works the persistence work with the instructions of
LiveUSBPenDrivePersistent but you have to replace the initrd.gz from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/219192 on FlipSide
Tech comment on casper directory. I recomend that reformat the FAT32
partition if you have done some tries. Even I can create a new user,
right now I'm trying with some virtualization but that is another story.

[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work

2008-05-08 Thread Jorge Q
On Hardy I cannot achieve persistence, I follow the tutorial on wiki
(LiveUSBPenDrivePersistent) and the Ubuntu starts but finish on a
initramfs and as I a novice I have to reboot. AFAIK and reading this
looong conversation looks like as someone else downgrade something and
the persistent on USB thumb or HD fails in the final release after this
guys fixed the persistent problem.

The problem is still there, because on www.pendrivelinux.com for ubuntu
gutsy only convert the USB on Live Ubuntu but without persistence, and
in some other forums and articles everybody ask about persistence
unsuccessfully or we need to edit some files as a
href=http://www.ryancloke.com/ubuntu-804-hardy-heron-live-usb-how-to/;
this link shows /a (for me it doesn´t work neither) and on somewhere
else the line mentioned in the link strongmount ${cowdevice} -t
${cow_fstype} -o rw,noatime /cow || panic Can not mount $cowdevice on
/cow/strong is treated differently, because the solution from ryan is
remove mode=775 and the solution from that site was defining another
variable $cow_cowopt=rw,noatime,mode=775 (or 755 I don´t remember) and
after the if before that line I have put the persistence before the else
(I'm searching again the web page if I found it I put the link) and in
the line mentioned by Ryan I have to replace after the -o option for the
new variable. In that page explain that the problem isn´t the mode
instead something isn't there that avoid that persistence option were
taked in account. Of course I did al that but again the initramfs, so no
one knows a real solution, or I do doesn't something.

Forgive me if I have some mistakes I'm not english native speaker.

[Bug 220609] [NEW] Firefox launch a lot of dialogs asking authorizations for a cookie

2008-04-22 Thread Jorge Q
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

The problem was on www.x10.com and I when I try to go there, a lot of
dialogs asking me authorization to put a second cookie, of course I have
configured my FF to ask me if I accept cookies from others. Another
things is why ask the same thing so many times?, if I choose some of the
options why not the others close automatically if they ask the same
question? and when I finally find the dialog that is blocking FF, the
focus go to another dialog but isn't where I can click, then I have to
search again the new blocking dialog. Some similar problem happened to
me with a diminute dialog that I had to resize to click a button in
order to close and unblocking the FF, so exist a focus problem with FF
or maybe with Gnome.

Plugins: I have installed a language pack for spanish and a traslator
and FF 3.0 beta 5.

Thanks guys for your great job.
