Interestingly, kernel 4.10.17 is 3-4x slower at writing to the NVM device than 4.13.0-37, with the former I get 260-290 MB/s, with the latter I get about 1 GB/s. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: When I try writing a large amount of data to a GPT partition on my NVM SSD using dd, after a second or so I get "kernel BUG" messages in dmesg, and the writing comes to a halt. [Bug 1429933] Re: [Acer Aspire V3-371] Sometimes, cursor jumps around if touchpad is in use
Acer has confirmed me that they have hardware issues with Acer V3-371 's touchpad mouse. I contacted Acer's support here in Finland and immediately after describing the problem on the phone I received a RMA number to send the device for repairs. Acer repaired the device and returned it to me. The repair note said that grounding of the touchpad mouse had been fixed. Unfortunately the problem came back in about two weeks. Acer took the laptop back for repairs again. This time they changed entire touchpad to another one from another device manufacturer. The device is now working normally. Let's hope it keeps that way. As Jeremy suggested I copied both these files from Windows' (Program Files\Common Files\QCA-Bluetooth) to Ubuntu's /lib/firmware/ar3k -folder: - AthrBT_0x11020100.dfu - ramps_0x11020100_40.dfu Now there are no more errors on the dmesg and Bluetooth is working on both of these experimental kernels: - 3.18.0-14-generic #15 SMP Fri Feb 27 18:38:10 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux - 4.0.0-04rc1-generic #201502261652 SMP Thu Feb 26 16:56:29 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Bluetooth still does not work on published kernels: - 3.16.0-31-generic #41~lp1352821v1 SMP Fri Feb 20 20:52:34 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux OR - 3.16.0-30-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 12 22:06:37 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Even though Bluetooth now works, at least bluetooth mouse doesn't automatically reconnect after restart. Instead mouse text flickers in Bluetooth GUI screen. After clicking ON button (on bluetooth gui) for several time the bluetooth mouse might reconnect - or not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425252 Title: 0489:e076 - Qualcomm Atheros - Ubuntu 14.10 bluetooth does not see any devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1425252/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1425252] Re: 0489:e076 - Qualcomm Atheros - Ubuntu 14.10 bluetooth does not see any devices
@Joseph Thanks. I just installed both - linux-image-3.18.0-14-generic_3.18.0-14.15~lp1425252v1_amd64.deb and - linux-image-extra-3.18.0-14-generic_3.18.0-14.15~lp1425252v1_amd64.deb Unfortunately the result was the same as with the previous 4.0.0.-04rc1: Bluetooth doesn't show up in menu bar and in Settings - Bluetooth everything is grayed out. @Joseph Thanks. Just installed linux- image-4.0.0-04rc1-generic_4.0.0-04rc1.201502261652_amd64.deb - should I have installed somenthing else also? There was no linux-image- extra available this time. [Bug 1148033] Re: GDBus.Error:org.openobex:Error.Failed: Unable to request session
-- Partially solved -- I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 to Sony Vaio. I had bluetooth file transfer (both ways) working nicely before that in 12.04. Now I faced this problem. I managed to partially fix the problem of transferring files from phone to computer by doing the following: 1. I installed the package gnome-user-share 2. Started Personal File Sharing from Ubuntu menu 3. Added ticks to following boxes - Share public files over Bluetooth - Require remote devices to bond with this computer - Receive files in Downloads folder over Bluetooth - Notify about received files This solved the problem with receiving files from mobile device (Android in my case) to computer. Which is the most important part for me. But I still can't send files from computer to the mobile through Bluetooth. If I try this, I get the error message: GDBus. [Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces
Well done Doug (https://launchpad.net/~mc3man) !! your fix/hack/workaround or whatever you wish to call it is perfect, haven't had that awful flickering in my Ubuntu 12.04.02 compiz cube since installing it. This is fantastic. This bug has been reported here nearly two years ago, and it even got fixed (partly) by Ubuntu team, but never released (because of regressions etc) in such a form that it simply could be installed in stock Precise. And now, just by copying that one libcube.so to home dir's compiz plugin dir, and after login, everything is smooth and non-flickering. In nearly two years time I had got so used to this cube flickering that hardly remembered anymore what an relaxed and still and smoothly moving cube and windows felt like. [Bug 1094722] Re: Raring: regression: fan keeps spinning at full speed after suspend
I have a HP ProBook 4710s. I'm suffering the same issue, but I have to echo 0 to cooling_devices from 0 to 10 to have the fan at the usual speed (there are devices from 0 to 15 on this laptop). It seems that the fan speed depends on the smallest device having the state as 1. This seems however to stop the automatic fan speed control, so I don't really want to use this script to protect the laptop from overheating - so I guess, until the bug is fixed, my only option is to avoid suspend. [Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces
I can confirm that the bug is still in 12.04.02 LTS and there has been no progress to get ist resolved in compiz-core 0.9.7.14 and the status has been Triaged for many months for this milestone (SRU-3). So, I am also waiting for a some kind of a workaround to this display flickering during the 12.04 LTS lifetime. There has been some fixes in other compiz branches (and Ubunut releases) to this bug, with some regressions, but I'd be willing to accept them in order to get this bug fixed. It seems also that this affects the Cube plugin sometimes, so that the whole display freezes for while, and compiz does not respond at all., but after waiting for a while, the graphical display starts to work again (but the fickering stays, no matter what). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/862430 Title: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/862430/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1044485] Re: lightdm-set-defaults is undocumented in lightdm man page
** Description changed: first off, this applies to 12.10 and 12.04 and possibly earlier versions. secondly, in trying to figure out how to change some relatively simple things, i've found people suggesting an edit to lightdm.conf, which works, but clearly lightdm-set-defaults is a much better and user friendly way to do this. the lack of any reference to what the possible options are in the lightdm.conf versus the help page (-h) in lightdm- set-defaults is an example of this. however, there is no reference to it in the lightdm man page. this would be a simple fix. it would also help to throw it into a directory that is in the $PATH or set the directory it's installed in as part of the $PATH at install, but perhaps i should create a different bug for this. Sorry about that update, I was just browsing this bug-report and did not actually change anything - so the description is as it originally was. [Bug 1044485] Re: lightdm-set-defaults is undocumented in lightdm man page
Hi Matt, thanks for the explanation. In case of lightdm-set-defaults, the CLI usage shows the available options (after you find the command in /usr/lib/lightdm -path ..). This still does not solve the missing documentation for the lightdm.conf conguratoon file. [Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces
This is a really nasty bug, in otherwise pretty and usefule desktop of Precise Pangolin. So, to get this bug fixed also in Ubuntu 12.04, should it be add to the bug description that it affects (the project of) precise-backport, too? As there seems to have been several fixes to this bug already, I am just trying to make sure that a fix will be deliverd to Precise Pangolin, which is now already at version 12.04.02. Maybe this is going to happen anyway, but I was not sure what does the Milestone: Compiz Core 0.9.7.14 SRU-3 actully mean. As the compiz version in 12.04 is still at 0.9.7 series, does the SRU-3 then refer to the 12.04.03 LTS-backport which is due in August 2013? (meaning that, 12.04.1 was the SRU-1 and 12.04.02 was the SRU-3?) [Bug 523796] Re: Startup list does not save changes randomly
I can confirm this! I am running a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 64bit classic desktop, with all updates (31.8.2011). After adding a program to the Startup Applications everything looks good. After the first restart the set program starts up automatically as expected. But after that the ~/config/autostart folder is empty and on the second restart the set program does not start up anymore. In my case ~/.config/autostart folder was already owned by the username:username and the permissions were: drwx--. I changed the permissions to Drwxrwxrwx, but no effect. As a background, I am building a information Kiosk, so the Ubuntu is set to login automatically and the program I am trying to automatically launch at the startup is Chromium Browser. The command I'm using in Startup Applications is: /usr/bin/chromium-browser --kiosk http://www.amusa.fi/ruutu/etela-karjala; WORKAROUND To stop the Startup Application setting from disappearing I used the following procedure. This is not a fix, but I am able to live with this workaround: 1. Set the Startup Application normally [in my case chromium-browser] 2. Set the permissions of ~/.config/autostart folder to: dr-xr-xr-x (chmod 555 autostart) 3. Set the permissions of ~/.config/autostart/chromium-browser.desktop to : -r--r--r-- (chmod 444 filename) [chromium-browser.desktop is the startup settings file the application I want to startup] This workaround seems to work for me. Naturally I'm now unable to add more Startup Applications... -Jukka- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/523796 Title: Startup list does not save changes randomly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/523796/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met
I have now tested a bit Cedrick Schieli's Nvidia-96 driver in Natty and it seems mostly to work OK, BUT: Now I have a problem with changing workspaces (bottom right corner of the screen). When clicking one of the squares, I may get a new workspace or not and if I do, the number of the workspace may be any one of the four even when clicking the same square. Also changing to a new workspace doesn't go smoothly - it seems Ubuntu is trying several times to show the new screen before it succeeds (if it does at all). The display flickers back and forth between workspaces several times before settling to one of them - not necessarily the one I wanted. Also sometimes the whole Ubuntu freezes when trying to change workspaces - even the cursor doesn't move. The only way out then is to turn the power off from the computer. Now, I cannot tell if this is because of the new driver, or does something else cause it, but this started after installation of Cedrick's software. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741930 Title: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/741930/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Many thanks, Cedric! Nvidia-96 driver at least installed to Natty without errors. [Bug 809888] [NEW] Calc:Some functions treat '5 as a number, some don't
Public bug reported: In Calc: Situation: cell A1 has a number typed in as text w apostrophe beginning such as '123 This cell gives diffenrent results in functions. SUM(A1) gives zero answer, but =A1 gives a value of 123. This can be misleading, especially when the apostrophe is not shown on the sheet. I suggest the numerical functions always try first to convert text to numbers. Version info: OpenOffice.org 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build:9483) ooo-build 3.2.1.10, Debian 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.2.
