[Bug 1864308] Re: c-down-mouse-1 does not work

2020-10-22 Thread Jukka Kinnunen
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04.1 on another laptop, and I am not
able to reproduce this either.

I also noticed, that if I create a new user in the problematic laptop
and login as that user, emacs works just fine.

2020-04-04 Thread Jukka
This bug is still present on 20.04 beta I installed yesterday. I was
playing a song on Youtube and it became distorted as I started to read a
New York Times article. Removing speech-dispatcher fixed the issue once
again.

[Bug 1746710] Re: Snap creates redundant duplicate directories in home folder

2018-04-26 Thread Jukka
This bug will likely be a larger problem in 18.04. Some of the default
applications of a standard Ubuntu installation seem to be snap packages.
Some of them, like gnome-logs and gnome-characters, reveal the bug. It
is quite annoying indeed.

[Bug 1700225] Re: Writing to GPT partition on NVM device triggers "Kernel BUG"

2018-04-16 Thread Jukka Laurila
Sorry this took so long, but I can confirm that the bug does not
reproduce on kernel 4.10.17-041017-generic that you linked to, or on
4.13.0-37-generic from 17.10. Interestingly, kernel 4.10.17 is 3-4x
slower at writing to the NVM device than 4.13.0-37, with the former I
get 260-290 MB/s, with the latter I get about 1 GB/s.

In any case, the bug is fixed in 4.10.17.

[Bug 1700225] Re: Writing to GPT partition on NVM device triggers "Kernel BUG"

2017-07-05 Thread Jukka Laurila
The issue did not start happening after an update - I just got this NVM
device, and kernel 4.10.0-24.28-generic was the latest one at the time.

I tried the mainline kernel version
linux-image-4.12.0-041200-generic_4.12.0-041200.201707022031_amd64.deb
and the bug did _not_ reproduce on that. Tagging as kernel-fixed-upstream.

2017-06-24 Thread Jukka Laurila
Ran apport. Note that while during that apport run the kernel was marked
as tainted because of the proprietary NVIDIA driver, the bug also
replicates without that driver loaded in an untainted kernel. The dmesg
logs I posted earlier are of that state.

[Bug 1700225] Re: Writing to GPT partition on NVM device triggers "Kernel BUG"

2017-06-24 Thread Jukka Laurila
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

When I try writing a large amount of data to a GPT partition on my NVM
SSD using dd, after a second or so I get "kernel BUG" messages in dmesg,
and the writing comes to a halt. The machine remains responsive and I
can write to other disks, but if I run "sync", it hangs forever.

The bug is 100 % repeatable. To replicate, run:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nvme0n1p1

This happens only when I write more than 0.5-1.5 GiB to a GPT partition
on the NVM device. The bug does not happen in the following cases:

  - writing just 500 MB on a GPT partition
  - writing to the raw device (/dev/nvme0n1)
  - writing to a DOS partition (i.e. when the NVM device is using a DOS style
partition table)

The device in question is a 1 TB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD.
  Ubuntu release: 17.04

- I have dmesg logs available of four instances of this happening, with
- very similar stack traces. I will be happy to experiment and provide any
- additional information you may need.

[Bug 1571640] Re: unity-greeter scaling factor changes after a delay

2016-08-02 Thread Jukka Niiranen
Hi

I'm using unity-settings-daemon (15.04.1+16.04.20160701-0ubuntu1) on
16.04 LTS (upgraded from 15.10) on my Toshiba Kira with desktop
resolution 2560x1440. With 15.10 the greeter worked ok, but now with
16.04 I'm still facing the same situation as described by "TJ (tj) on
2016-04-26".

Is some other action still needed?

Thanks!

[Bug 1429933] Re: [Acer Aspire V3-371] Sometimes, cursor jumps around if touchpad is in use

2015-09-11 Thread Jukka Niiranen
Acer has confirmed me that they have hardware issues with Acer V3-371 's
touchpad mouse.

I contacted Acer's support here in Finland and immediately after
describing the problem on the phone I received a RMA number to send the
device for repairs. Acer repaired the device and returned it to me. The
repair note said that grounding of the touchpad mouse had been fixed.

Unfortunately the problem came back in about two weeks. Acer took the
laptop back for repairs again. This time they changed entire touchpad
to another one from another device manufacturer. The device is now
working normally. Let's hope it keeps that way.

Best Regards, Jukka

[Bug 1394368] Re: Bluetooth with AR9462 doesn't work (New ID /Firmware)

2015-09-05 Thread Jukka Niiranen
Raphaël,

Thank you for very very clear and precise recap.

I followed your advice, but for some reason 'sudo dpkg -i
ar9462-dkms_1.5.1_all.deb' stops to 'Error! Bad return status for module
build on kernel: 3.19.0-26-generic (x86_64)'.

I've included both
- terminal output (build_command.txt) and
- make.log (build_make.log)
files in the attached ZIP packet.

Any idea why this happened? I'm ready to test more.

** Attachment added: "Terminal command and it's outcome plus make.log file in
one zip."

[Bug 1394368] Re: Bluetooth with AR9462 doesn't work (New ID /Firmware)

2015-09-03 Thread Jukka Niiranen
I've been following this bug as I'm also affected. I've AR9462 in Acer
Aspire V3-371-79RJ and Ubuntu 15.04 (3.19.0-26-generic).

I made a clean install about a month ago and have now all updates
installed. Still dmesg says: "Bluetooth: Patch file not found
ar3k/AthrBT_0x11020100.dfu" and bluetooth is not working.

Could someone please recap the above discussion and point out what steps
a general user needs to take to make Bluetooth work?

Thanks for fixing this for us!

[Bug 1394368] Re: Bluetooth with AR9462 doesn't work (New ID /Firmware)

2015-03-05 Thread Jukka Niiranen
I got pointed here from:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1425252

As suggested also above I copied both these files from Windows' (Program
Files\Common Files\QCA-Bluetooth) to Ubuntu's /lib/firmware/ar3k -folder:
- AthrBT_0x11020100.dfu
- ramps_0x11020100_40.dfu

With these files in place the Bluetooth is working on both of these
experimental kernels: (for more info see bug 1425252, link above)
- 3.18.0-14-generic #15 SMP Fri Feb 27 18:38:10 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux
- 4.0.0-04rc1-generic #201502261652 SMP Thu Feb 26 16:56:29 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Bluetooth still does not work on published kernels:
- 3.16.0-31-generic #41~lp1352821v1 SMP Fri Feb 20 20:52:34 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux OR
- 3.16.0-30-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 12 22:06:37 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

Now I'm also facing the same Bluetooth works / does-not-work after
reboot issue. At least bluetooth mouse doesn't automatically reconnect
after restart. Instead mouse text flickers in Bluetooth GUI screen.
After clicking ON button (on bluetooth gui) for several times the
bluetooth mouse might reconnect - or not.

Also if I click Connection ON to mouse from underneath the Bluetooth
icon on system tray it seems to try to get the connection establihed as
the bluetooth icon's lock symbol goes ON and OFF repeatedly.

System: Acer Aspire V3-371-79RJ and Ubuntu 14.10.

[Bug 1425252] Re: 0489:e076 - Qualcomm Atheros - Ubuntu 14.10 bluetooth does not see any devices

2015-03-05 Thread Jukka Niiranen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1394368 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394368

@Jeremy and @Joseph
I'm commenting here (and to 1394368) to conclude the discussion should anyone
else be fighting with the same issue.

As Jeremy suggested I copied both these files from Windows' (Program
Files\Common Files\QCA-Bluetooth) to Ubuntu's /lib/firmware/ar3k -folder:
- AthrBT_0x11020100.dfu
- ramps_0x11020100_40.dfu

Now there are no more errors on the dmesg and Bluetooth is working on both of
these experimental kernels:
- 3.18.0-14-generic #15 SMP Fri Feb 27 18:38:10 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux
- 4.0.0-04rc1-generic #201502261652 SMP Thu Feb 26 16:56:29 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Bluetooth still does not work on published kernels:
- 3.16.0-31-generic #41~lp1352821v1 SMP Fri Feb 20 20:52:34 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux OR
- 3.16.0-30-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 12 22:06:37 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

Even though Bluetooth now works, at least bluetooth mouse doesn't
automatically reconnect after restart. Instead mouse text flickers in
Bluetooth GUI screen. After clicking ON button (on bluetooth gui) for
several time the bluetooth mouse might reconnect - or not.

Thanks. I just installed both

- linux-image-extra-3.18.0-14-generic_3.18.0-14.15~lp1425252v1_amd64.deb

Unfortunately the result was the same as with the previous
4.0.0.-04rc1:

Bluetooth doesn't show up in menu bar and in Settings - Bluetooth
everything is grayed out. WiFi works ok.

Are there any logs or other info I can provide to you that would help?

Bluetooth on Ubuntu 14.10 running on Acer Aspire V3-371-79RJ laptop does not
work. WiFi on the same device works normally and also bluetooth seems to work
normally, but when searching for external devices Ubuntu cannot see any
bluetooth devices.

I've tried to connect to both bluetooth mouse and an Android phone, no luck.
On another Ubuntu laptop the same external bluetooth devices are visible and
work ok.

  lspci -nnk printout includes this:
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros AR9462 Wireless Network

  and lsusb printout includes this:

  Full listings are attached.

  What was expected to happen:
  - Expected that Ubuntu would find my bluetooth mouse and phone when searching
for new bluetooth devices.

  What happened instead:
  - Everything seemed to work ok, but nothing happened. Ubuntu does not see any

[Bug 1352821] Re: 0489:e078 - Qualcom Atheros - Ubuntu 14.04 bluetooth not working

2015-02-21 Thread Jukka Niiranen
Followed Joseph's advice and installed both linux-image and linux-image-
extra packages from ...~jsalisbury...

NOW:
~$ uname -a
Linux Cake 3.16.0-31-generic #41~lp1352821v1 SMP Fri Feb 20 20:52:34 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But unfortunately this had no effect on Bluetooth's ability to find any
devices. Situation is still the same as in my post above. Everything
seems to work ok, WiFi actually works, Bluetooth doesn't see any
devices. I've tried to connect mouse and phone, no luck. Same devices
connect correctly to another Ubuntu laptop.

Environment:

Acer Aspire V3-371, Ubuntu 14.10.

lspci -nnk printout includes this:

Subsystem: Foxconn International, Inc. Device [105b:e07d]

I'm having the same issue with:
Acer Aspire V3-371 running Ubuntu 14.10 kernel: 3.16.0-29-generic

[Bug 1148033] Re: GDBus.Error:org.openobex:Error.Failed: Unable to request session

2014-01-23 Thread Jukka Niiranen
-- Partially solved --

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 to Sony Vaio. I had bluetooth file
transfer (both ways) working nicely before that in 12.04. Now I faced
this problem.

I managed to partially fix the problem of transferring files from phone to
computer by doing the following:
1. I installed the package gnome-user-share
2. Started Personal File Sharing from Ubuntu menu
3. Added ticks to following boxes
- Share public files over Bluetooth
- Require remote devices to bond with this computer
- Receive files in Downloads folder over Bluetooth
- Notify about received files

This solved the problem with receiving files from mobile device (Android
in my case) to computer. Which is the most important part for me.

But I still can't send files from computer to the mobile through
Bluetooth. If I try this, I get the error message: GDBus.
Error:org.openobex.Error.Failed: Unable to request session

[Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces

2013-09-08 Thread Jukka Aaltonen
Well done Doug (https://launchpad.net/~mc3man) !!

your fix/hack/workaround or whatever you wish to call it is perfect,
haven't had that awful flickering in my Ubuntu 12.04.02 compiz cube
since installing it.

This is fantastic.

This bug has been reported here nearly two years ago, and it even got
fixed (partly) by Ubuntu team, but never released (because of
regressions etc) in such a form that it simply could be installed in
stock Precise.

And now, just by copying that one libcube.so to home dir's compiz plugin
dir, and after login, everything is smooth and non-flickering. In nearly
two years time I had got so used to this cube flickering that hardly
remembered anymore what an relaxed and still and smoothly moving cube
and windows felt like.

Thanks one more time, Doug, I owe you a beer or two for providing this
simple hack for us ;-)

[Bug 1094722] Re: Raring: regression: fan keeps spinning at full speed after suspend

2013-05-05 Thread Jukka Alasalmi
I have a HP ProBook 4710s. I'm suffering the same issue, but I have to
echo 0 to cooling_devices from 0 to 10 to have the fan at the usual
speed (there are devices from 0 to 15 on this laptop). It seems that the
fan speed depends on the smallest device having the state as 1. This
seems however to stop the automatic fan speed control, so I don't really
want to use this script to protect the laptop from overheating - so I
guess, until the bug is fixed, my only option is to avoid suspend. I'll
try the 3.9.0 kernel and report my findings.

So, based on my testing, 3.9.0 kernel fixes the fan speed, but it breaks
the WiFi (Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN). I know that this is not maybe
the best forum to ask, but should I file a bug report about that
somewhere? If so, where do I do so? On launchpad?

After some digging I noticed that the S/PDIF output was simply muted by

it to work.

[Bug 1045771] Re: Underruns and stuttering

2013-04-30 Thread Jukka Marin
I have been experiencing stuttering problems which have been driving me
crazy, googling all night and trying all kinds of solutions with no
help. Then I disabled the WIFI driver (RTL8723AE) and now audio works
well (Intel hda output). It seems the driver is disabling interrupts
for extended periods of time (or something like that), draining the
small buffers of the audio hardware. (Now, if the SPDIF output only
worked with xubuntu 13.04 (it did with 12.10)...)

[Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces

2013-04-28 Thread Jukka Aaltonen
I can confirm that the bug is still in 12.04.02 LTS and there has been no
progress to get ist resolved in compiz-core 0.9.7.14 and the status has been
Triaged for many months for this milestone (SRU-3).
So, I am also waiting for a some kind of a workaround to this display
flickering during the 12.04 LTS lifetime. There has been some fixes in other
compiz branches (and Ubunut releases) to this bug, with some regressions, but
I'd be willing to accept them in order to get this bug fixed. It seems also
that this affects the Cube plugin sometimes, so that the whole display freezes
for while, and compiz does not respond at all., but after waiting for a while,
the graphical display starts to work again (but the fickering stays, no matter
what).

[Bug 1044485] Re: lightdm-set-defaults is undocumented in lightdm man page

2013-03-07 Thread Jukka Aaltonen
** Description changed:

first off, this applies to 12.10 and 12.04 and possibly earlier
  versions.

secondly, in trying to figure out how to change some relatively simple
things, i've found people suggesting an edit to lightdm.conf, which
works, but clearly lightdm-set-defaults is a much better and user
friendly way to do this. the lack of any reference to what the possible
options are in the lightdm.conf versus the help page (-h) in lightdm-
set-defaults is an example of this. however, there is no reference to it
in the lightdm man page. this would be a simple fix.

it would also help to throw it into a directory that is in the $PATH or
set the directory it's installed in as part of the $PATH at install, but
perhaps i should create a different bug for this.

[Bug 1044485] Re: lightdm-set-defaults is undocumented in lightdm man page

2013-03-07 Thread Jukka Aaltonen
Sorry about that update, I was just browsing this bug-report and did
not actually change anything - so the description is as it originally
was.

One question though; now that fix has been committed , when can I expect
it to arrive at Ubuntu 12.04 repositories and to get published? The bug
description (or the title) does not have any milestone, so does this
mean that the fix has not been scheduled at all for 12.04 and 12.10? In
which way is the Ubuntu bug release schedule determined, in general?

Thanks for any information.. and kudos to developers for fixing this
bug..

[Bug 1044485] Re: lightdm-set-defaults is undocumented in lightdm man page

2013-03-07 Thread Jukka Aaltonen
Hi Matt,

thanks for the explanation. In case of lightdm-set-defaults, the CLI
usage shows the available options (after you find the command in
/usr/lib/lightdm -path ..).

This still does not solve the missing documentation for the lightdm.conf
conguratoon file. Therefore I added the Ubuntu 12.04 precise-backports
to that bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/precise-backports/+bug/883189),
in hopes of getting the fix there delivered to current LTS version
(12.04).

[Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces

2013-03-07 Thread Jukka Aaltonen
This is a really nasty bug, in otherwise pretty and usefule desktop of
Precise Pangolin. So, to get this bug fixed also in Ubuntu 12.04,
should it be add to the bug description that it affects (the project of)
precise-backport, too?

As there seems to have been several fixes to this bug already, I am just
trying to make sure that a fix will be deliverd to Precise Pangolin,
which is now already at version 12.04.02.

Maybe this is going to happen anyway, but I was not sure what does the
Milestone: Compiz Core 0.9.7.14 SRU-3 actully mean. As the compiz
version in 12.04 is still at 0.9.7 series, does the SRU-3 then refer to
the 12.04.03 LTS-backport which is due in August 2013? (meaning that,
12.04.1 was the SRU-1 and 12.04.02 was the SRU-3?)

Do you, Sam (to whom this bug is assigned) or anyone else, have any
additional information about this, and the schdeule of the backport?

[Bug 991845] Re: Empathy on 12.04, some MSN users cannot see me online at all, one way conversations

2012-11-28 Thread Jukka Kolehmainen
I'm experiencing this as well. I'm still using 10.04 LTS on my work computer
and Empathy 2.30.3.
The other end I've been having most problems with lately is on Windows 8 and
uses the default Win8 Messaging App for MSN.

I see him as offline all the time, he sees me online, but often misses
messages I send and some of his messages seem to drop as well.

Below is a script that reproduces the issue by creating a folder containing
filenames long enough.

[Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects

2012-09-21 Thread Jukka
I had the same issue on my old Dell laptop, B43xx wlan card. It was so
annoying that I reverted back to 10.04, in which there are no problems.
Don't know if this has been fixed already.

[Bug 1004371] Re: smart window placement puts windows on top of each other while there is plenty of space

2012-06-07 Thread Jukka Lehtosalo
I have the same problem. I have a fresh install of 12.04 and a desktop
spanning two monitors. With 'smart' window placement windows (e.g.
xterm, emacs, gedit) seem to always appear at the top left corner of the
screen on top of each other even though there would be plenty of space
elsewhere on the screen.

[Bug 523796] Re: Startup list does not save changes randomly

2011-08-31 Thread Jukka Niiranen
I can confirm this!

I am running a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 64bit classic desktop, with
all updates (31.8.2011). After adding a program to the Startup
Applications everything looks good. After the first restart the set
program starts up automatically as expected. But after that the
~/config/autostart folder is empty and on the second restart the set
program does not start up anymore.

In my case ~/.config/autostart folder was already owned by the
username:username and the permissions were: drwx--. I changed the
permissions to Drwxrwxrwx, but no effect.

As a background, I am building a information Kiosk, so the Ubuntu is set
to login automatically and the program I am trying to automatically
launch at the startup is Chromium Browser. The command I'm using in
Startup Applications is: /usr/bin/chromium-browser --kiosk
http://www.amusa.fi/ruutu/etela-karjala;

WORKAROUND

To stop the Startup Application setting from disappearing I used the following
procedure. This is not a fix, but I am able to live with this workaround:
1. Set the Startup Application normally [in my case chromium-browser]
2. Set the permissions of ~/.config/autostart folder to: dr-xr-xr-x (chmod 555
autostart)
3. Set the permissions of ~/.config/autostart/chromium-browser.desktop to :
-r--r--r-- (chmod 444 filename) [chromium-browser.desktop is the startup
settings file the application I want to startup]

This workaround seems to work for me. Naturally I'm now unable to add
more Startup Applications...

[Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-07-29 Thread Jukka Siitari
I have now tested a bit Cedrick Schieli's Nvidia-96 driver in Natty and it
seems mostly to work OK, BUT:
Now I have a problem with changing workspaces (bottom right corner of the
screen). When clicking one of the squares, I may get a new workspace or not and
if I do, the number of the workspace may be any one of the four even when
clicking the same square. Also changing to a new workspace doesn't go smoothly
- it seems Ubuntu is trying several times to show the new screen before it
succeeds (if it does at all). The display flickers back and forth between
workspaces several times before settling to one of them - not necessarily the
one I wanted. Also sometimes the whole Ubuntu freezes when trying to change
workspaces - even the cursor doesn't move. The only way out then is to turn the
power off from the computer.

Now, I cannot tell if this is because of the new driver, or does
something else cause it, but this started after installation of
Cedrick's software.

Many thanks, Cedric! Nvidia-96 driver at least installed to Natty
without errors. Now I'll check if it works, too ;)

[Bug 809888] [NEW] Calc:Some functions treat '5 as a number, some don't

2011-07-13 Thread Jukka Lind
Public bug reported:

In Calc:
Situation: cell A1 has a number typed in as text w apostrophe beginning such as
 '123

This cell gives diffenrent results in functions. SUM(A1) gives zero answer, but
=A1 gives a value of 123.

This can be misleading, especially when the apostrophe is not shown on
the sheet. I suggest the numerical functions always try first to convert
text to numbers.

Version info:
OpenOffice.org 3.2.0
OOO320m12 (Build:9483)
ooo-build 3.2.1.10, Debian 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.2. Wed jan 26 22:22:24 UTC 20.

** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 777212] Re: [Lenovo L420] System boots to garbled display

2011-07-07 Thread Jukka Matilainen
I am seeing this problem on a ThinkPad L520. Setting
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text as suggested in Comment #10 helps.
