[Bug 1572321] Re: owncloud network access is disabled

2016-05-28 Thread KDontenville
Hi Carlo, thanks very much for posting that fix, QT5.6 in /opt works
perfectly for us. We just modified the startup apps entry to include the
path so ownCloud starts as needed without user intervention.

Does anyone know if Ubuntu is going to address this qt5 bug in its
repos?

[Bug 1572321] Re: owncloud network access is disabled

2016-05-27 Thread KDontenville
This is still constant pain for me and is reported as an error based on
building from a bug in QT5 shipping with 16.04.

After every suspend on all 16.04 laptops we use, owncloud client refuses
to find the reappearance of the network connection. Quit app and restart
before it will find it.

I have collated a few of the reports here which may help identify the
key patches needed, but at the moment the solution for the build does
not seem to be in place.

See here: https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/3888

Last comments:

(For OS X and Windows, we add the patch
https://github.com/owncloud/client/blob/master/admin/qt/patches/0012
-Make-sure-networkAccessibilityChanged-is-emitted.patch which did not
make it into Qt 5.1.1 release)

and here: https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/4839

with a comment of:
$SOMEONE needs to get Ubuntu to update their Qt packages to check if there is a
need to add any of the patches listed in
https://github.com/owncloud/client/tree/2.2/admin/qt/patches

And also here: https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/4720

Comment:
Could be that we also need https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/146115/ ..
maybe you want to try that out and report back.
(On Windows, OS X we don't ship the Qt bearer plugins, that's why this patch is
not needed)

Might help identify the patches!

[Bug 579807] Re: Monitor photo directories for changes

2010-08-27 Thread KDontenville
Does shotwell monitor/watch folders now? Not seeing the behaviour in .71
yet, do I have to turn something on or did it not make it to .71?

We have our photos shared on a directory on the server not on local
machines so having Shotwell on personal systems scan/monitor and create
links back to the library would be ideal.

[Bug 579808] Re: Update image file with editing operations (store backups elsewhere)

2010-08-27 Thread KDontenville
Personally I prefer the leave my files, save an alternate copy if I want
it, perhaps with an alternate location. This sort of follows things like
Light Room, F-Spot and Picasa which I suspect are managers most people
come from.

From our use we like to have an original shared resource that is
unchanged and save out to our own library our modified files versions.
That means we can have links to a common image and our own changes are
consistent and preserved.

As more and more photos are kept by individuals, families and businesses
on external drives, NAS or servers I think something that works in this
sort of way in a distributed multi-device, multi-user environment would
be best. Just my 2 pence(cents) worth ;-)

[Bug 356716] [NEW] Basic Games very slow using Jaunty and 865 intel video eg Super Tux ; -)

2009-04-06 Thread KDontenville
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

General Gnome session works fine, all standard X stuff seems to work
well. However, when starting any full screen game the display crawls at
such a slow rate that mouse movement and any simple screen activity
takes many seconds to complete.

I have seen plenty of catastrophic failures reported and I have followed
advice and suggestions given there (eg libdrm-intel1, changing xorg to
disable acceleration/dri etc etc) but the problem never changes for the
better.

In Intrepid and previous incarnations the video was OK, never intended
to be a blistering games machine but a simple 2d platform game cant be
too much ;-)

Any ideas?

[Bug 353274] [NEW] Bootable USB Jaunty Beta can't install - HD mounts as CDROM

2009-04-01 Thread KDontenville
Public bug reported:

I have created a bootable USB device from the new Jaunty beta 32bit iso
using an Intrepid 32bit install on another PC - ie the provided Create
USB Startup Disk utility and it completes successfully.

That USB stick when used in a Dell small foot print PC with no CDROM
drive boots to a live session fine but when I attempt an install the
installer throws errors about being unable to unmount /dev/sda1 which
should be the 40GB IDE drive.

It seems that the live cd is also mounting /dev/sda1 as cdrom which
means it appears busy and unable to dismount. With no available CD drive
on the PC I cant test the live CD itself in this system.

It doesnt happen with Intrepid iso or other distros.

[Bug 232154] [NEW] Intel 82801G ICH7 - lost after updates

2008-05-20 Thread KDontenville
Public bug reported:

After recent standard upgrades for ubuntu a previously working system
lost the audio device. No other changes were apparent and when I boot
the previous linux image (ESC at boot) at the boot screen the audio
returns. I noted that after the update the boot image was the -386
version and previously it was the -generic.

Work around has been to change the default boot option to the previous
image but not sure what this might mean for future updates.

NB All the usual and expected headers, modules etc appear to be
installed. Plenty of similar type of bugs reported at times for other
kernels but haven't seen conclusive solutions.

[Bug 124348] Re: Logging off causes error on client

2008-01-24 Thread KDontenville
I have this on Gutsy still, whatever Windows version or protocol, screen
etc. As soon as you exit the client after a connection has been made the
error is 100% repeatable.

Error reported currently is 'autoselected keyboard map en-gb' have seen
others in forum with issues relating to screen resolution eg 16bit not
24bit etc.

When I manually select in the TS client the keyboard language code en-gb
then the error goes.

I think this is a bug in the client as it is not picking up on the
autoselected language, protocol, screen etc. It autoselects it
appropriately but doesnt pass this through for some reason.

Certainly annoying and a continuing pain but I guess not 'critical' yet
it would be nice if this was finally more polished in Hardy after Feisty
and Gutsy having done me to distraction at times ;-)

This is still happening to me with Gutsy 32bit and Exaile bzr v2.12b.
Gutsy is fully updated. Do I read in the above that we need to compile
FF rather than take the supported repository version to get Exaile to
work. Not too happy to do that on such a exposed/vulnerable app as FF.
Any ideas?
