[Bug 2060268] Re: Phantom "Unknown Display" shown in Settings after installing the Nvidia driver
> I also have encryption, does everyone with the bug have it? Nope. I just got my bug marked duplicate here. I am not running encryption, but I am running ZFS, which uses a vaguely similar disk abstraction (booting a "fake" device that "maps" to a real one in some arbitrary way). However, my bug was solved when I installed kubuntu-desktop (and then switched the default display manager back to gdm3). So, I assume one of the dependencies it brought along fixed it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060268 Title: Phantom "Unknown Display" shown in Settings after installing the Nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2060268/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2069477] Re: gnome-shell crashes (traps) with int3 on launch using nvidia proprietary drivers
Installing the kubuntu-desktop metapackage (also with --no-install- recommends) and then switching the default display-manager back to gdm3 fixes this problem. I reverted to a backup to reproduce a problem setup to aid in diagnosing the gnome issue because honestly, that's a pretty dumb solution. My expectation is that we'll figure out which specific packages fix the issue and add it to some documentation somewhere so future users can find it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069477 Title: gnome-shell crashes (traps) with int3 on launch using nvidia proprietary drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2069477/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2069477] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes (traps) with int3 on launch using nvidia proprietary drivers
Public bug reported: I have a working backup with no nvidia drivers. Adding nvidia proprietary driver (nvidia-driver-535) and rebooting causes a generic "contact a system administrator" screen when one would expect the greeter. The ubuntu-desktop and nvidia driver metapackages were installed with --no-install-recommends. Re: [Bug 1974230] [NEW] Negative cache results from dnsmasq do not include SOA as required in RFC2308
Acknowledge that RFC non-compliance. Fixing this is actually a fairly big ask, since the problem is not that dnsmasq omits the SOA when answering from cache, but that dnsmasq doesn't cache SOA records. The design philosophy was (and is) to cache only a few RR types to make the code and data structures simple and small (remember that dnsmasq's niche is "lightweight", for low capability hardware). There's been a implied assumption that clients using dnsmasq would typically be stub-resolvers, and not full-service DNS servers. That said, the set of cached RR types has increased over the years, notably with the introduction of DNSSEC and the RR types needed to suuport that. Adding caching of SOA records is possible, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. A reasonable workaround might be to disable negative caching in dnsmasq and rely on systemd-resolved to do that for itself. Simon. [Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record
I am also seeing this same problem on a Raspberry Pi4 4GB. I purchased the Pi last November and installed from the then-available 2019-09-26-raspbian-buster.zip but routinely keep it updated (apt update / apt upgrade). The Pi was rock solid and did not exhibit any problems until 2020-02-24 when I applied some updates followed by a "sudo reboot" but the boot process did not complete. The Pi runs headless so I don't know whether it never actually completed the shutdown, or failed to reboot. I power- cycled the device and it came back OK. Another set of updates were applied on 2020-03-11 and the subsequent reboot completed without incident so I assumed the earlier problem was a one-off. Then, on 2020-03-14 the Pi froze. Wouldn't respond to pings, ssh or vnc. It is Ethernet-connected but the WiFi interface is active and it did not occur to me to try connecting via WiFi. I just did another power-cycle and then started nosing around through the logs. Which brought me to: Mar 14 12:48:16 iot-hub avahi-daemon[361]: Withdrawing address record for 192.168.132.60 on eth0. Mar 14 12:48:16 iot-hub avahi-daemon[361]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on interface eth0.IPv4 with address 192.168.132.60. Re: [Bug 1862157] [NEW] dnsmasq does in all cases prepend "tftp_root" to tftp-bootfiles
tftp-root is a security feature. The tftp protocol is entirely unauthenticated, and if a request was allowed to go outside the specified root directory, than that effectively makes all readable files on the host available for internet-wide access, which is not generally desirable. If you want TFTP to be able to access any file on the machine, don't set a tftp-root. Simon. [Bug 1795121] Re: 18.10: Indicator icons not shown in the panel
Roberto Leinardi's comment on 9-29 might have been accurate for him, but overall it is not right. Appindicators still do not work on 18.10, including a fresh install of 18.10 after its release date, one in which Unity was never installed, nor unity-tweak-tool. I've seen that message repeated all over and it does nothing to solve the problem for me nor for most other people. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1795121 Title: 18.10: Indicator icons not shown in the panel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-appindicator/+bug/1795121/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1702726] [NEW] dnsmasq fails when the ARP cache is full
Testing this, the results are not quite as clear-cut as the example. I don't always see the same errors. Also, I don't understand why the send() calls in dig, which are sending UDP packets over the loopback interface, should return the invalid argument. ARP is not needed over loopback, surely? Looking at an strace of dnsmasq, what I see is that either the query never arrives at dnsmasq, or it gets answered correctly but the answers never makes it back to dig: the UDP packets are being dropped in the kernel. (In the later case, the send() of the reply gets the same invalid argument error that dig is seeing) The lesson here is that if the arp-cache overflows, UDP, (even over lo) drops packets. There's really not much dnsmasq can do about that. I guess the only answer is "don't let your arp-cache overflow". (or possibly, work on getting the kernel to behave better under these circumstances) TL;DR not a dnsmasq bug. Cheers, Simon. Re: [Bug 1672099] Re: DNS loop, >5, 000 queries per second for minutes at a time
Looking again. the loop probably involves systemd-resolverd too, dnsmasq forwards to 127.0.0.53 which is systemd-resolverd, and systemd-resolverd then returns it to dnsmasq at 127.0.0.1 Why, oh why is Ubuntu running both? Re: [Bug 1672099] Re: DNS loop, >5, 000 queries per second for minutes at a time
Ok, so the amplification is arising from dnsmasq looping queries around 127.0.0.1 -> 127.0.0.53 -> 127.0.0.1 -> . It would be really useful to get dnsmasq's idea of what it's upstreams are. We know that 127.0.0.1 is in the list from your previous post, and I guess that dnsmasq has successfully worked out not to use that as it loops back to itself. It's very likely that it didn't work out that 127.0.0.53 also loops back to itself too, but it's not clear how that's getting into the list of upstreams. This is starting to look like an Ubuntu/systemd plumbing problem, rather than a dnsmasq bug. Simon. Re: [Bug 1672099] Re: DNS loop, >5, 000 queries per second for minutes at a time
Are we clear that this is a dnsmasq problem, and not a systemd-resolved one? Can you add --log-queries to the dnsmasq configuration and see what dnsmasq is doing? That should demonstrate if the loop is dnsmasq forwarding to itself, of if the problem is something else. Cheers, Simon. Whenever the set of servers to which dnsmasq is forwarding queries changes, the whole set is logged to syslog. It would be useful to have that information. [Bug 1522472] Re: Black screen on boot after updating Trusty
Thanks. I'd already seen that and think we know where to proceed from here. Do you want the bug left open, since it exists in the still-supported 3.13 LTS kernel? Or do you want me to go ahead and close it, since newer kernels offer a workaround? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522472 Title: Black screen on boot after updating Trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1522472/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1522472] Re: Black screen on boot after updating Trusty
Our original plan was to be able to run 14.04 LTS with the 3.13 GA kernel series, so that we'd have a long support period without having to worry about major kernel upgrades. When we ran into this bug (in what we thought would be a routine upgrade from one 3.13 point release to another), we were able to work around it by switching to the 3.19 kernel (the vivid HWE kernel for 14.04). Having a regression in the 3.13 series was annoying. However, if I understand all of this correctly, It sounds like the xenial HWE kernel for 14.04 should fix this problem and should have the same support period as the 3.13 GA kernel? If so, it will probably be easier to wait for xenial, so if you could let me know whether my understanding is correct, I'll go ahead and close this. Thank you.

[Bug 1534963] [NEW] Apparent Xfce Power manager memory leak in Xubuntu Xenial daily
Public bug reported: I'm running the 20160115 daily xubuntu build, xenial-desktop-amd64, live from a usb drive. The Xfce4-power-manager package (version 1.4.4-4ubuntu2) seems to have a memory leak, consuming all 4GB of RAM when running for more than an hour on a Core i3 notebook (Acer E5-471 with a Sanyo AL14A32 battery). Xfce Power Manager settings are at default. I boot with AC power connected, and the task memory starts growing immediately. It stops increasing and remains constant, when I unplug AC power. Re: [Bug 1501189] [NEW] Don't put 127.0.0.1 in resolvconf when port=0
I'm sympathetic to aim, but this solution is rather fragile, there are plenty of ways to get dnsmasq to read configuration from places other than /etc/dnsmasq.conf and /etc/dnsmasq.d/*, for instance adding conf-file=/path/to/more/configuration to the existing config files. It's also possible to override things in /etc/default/dnsmasq. A better solution might be to extend the IGNORE_RESOLVCONF setting in /etc/default/dnsmasq so that it inhibits adding 127.0.0.1 to resolvconf, as well as stopping dnsmasq from using the resolvconf output as upstream. Re: [Bug 1502226] [NEW] error message "dnsmasq: failed to create listening socket for 0.0.0.0: Address already in use" doesn't explain which port number it refers to
What configuration was in use to get that exact error message. If dnsmasq is binding the wildcard address (0.0.0.0), I'd expect to see a message like dnsmasq: failed to create listening socket for port 53 Whilst if dnsmasq is configured to bind the hosts addresses, I'd expect to see something like dnsmasq: failed to create listening socket for 192.168.151.1 So I'm confused how you're getting the message with an IP address, but for the 0.0.0.0 wildcard address. [Bug 1313973] Re: WebSVN 2.3.3-1.1 fails to install on Ubuntu 14.04 using apt-get
There are several other aspects of websvn's configuration that are out of date: The websvn/webservers step still looks for apache, apache-ssl, and apache-perl, instead of just using apache2. There are a few references to php4, but Ubuntu 14.04 uses PHP 5. websvn/permissions gives Berkeley DB-specific instructions (without even specifying that they only apply to Berkeley DB), but "almost everyone" (according to the Subversion Book) uses the default fsfs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313973 Title: WebSVN 2.3.3-1.1 fails to install on Ubuntu 14.04 using apt-get To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/websvn/+bug/1313973/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1392447] [NEW] apport "starts" even when not installed
Public bug reported: When removed (but not purged), apport leaves /etc/init/apport.conf and /etc/init.d/apport, which is enough for commands like "service apport start" to work. "service apport start" runs without complaining and overrides /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to send core dumps to apport, even though apport doesn't exist. Apport's service scripts should refuse to run if Apport isn't installed and, in particular, shouldn't break /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern. Re: [Bug 1314697] Re: DNS resolution no longer works; dnsmasq uses 100% CPU
Annoyingly, I still can't reproduce this on the systems I have available. On a system where the problem occurs, can it be reproduced when dnsmasq is started standalone with the same command-line parameters? The idea situation would be to get the bug to show up in a dnsmasq instance running under gdb. The strace gives lots of valuable information: during inialisation in network.c, create_bound_listeners() calls create_listeners() once. The creates a UDP socket and a TCP socket each bound to 127.0.1.1:53, with file-descriptors 4 and 5. Those file descriptors are stored in a struct listener object which will be the only one in a chain pointed to by daemon->listeners (or dnsmasq_daemon->listeners, in gdb). The file descriptors are stored in the ->fd and ->tcpfd fields of the struct. By the time dnsmasq gets to the select loop in dnsmasq.c, those two fields have somehow been zeroed - that's enough to exactly match what's in the strace. dnsmasq selects for read events on fd 0 instead of fd 4 and fd 5 and when select says that reading is OK, is makes the syscalls is would make for fd 4 (recvfrom) and fd 5 (accept) but to fd 0 instead. If someone can reproduce this in gdb I suggest doing the following. 1) Set a breakpoint in create_bound_listeners() and trace through until dnsmasq_daemon->listeners->fd and dnsmasq_daemon->listeners->tcpfd have the correct values (4 and 5) 2) Set watchpoints on those two expressions, and then continue execution. Gdb should then tell us where those locations are being overwritten. Please could you repeat as root sudo lsof | grep dnsmasq. I note that there's two instances of dnsmasq here, one started by libvirt (?) and one, I guess, started by network-manager. I wonder if some interaction between the two is what's causing the problem. Which one is the which is spinning? Can you disable the libvirt stuff and see if that makes a difference?
