[Bug 584448] [NEW] failed upgrade to lucid

2010-05-23 Thread Kelvinelk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I was performing an upgrade from Jaunty - Karmic - Lucid.

First move to Karmic went fine. On upgrading to Lucid, multiple packages failed
to install, and then the upgrade process stopped altogether.
Update-Manager - 1:0.134.8

[Bug 530055] [NEW] when maximised, title bar inteferes with other applications

2010-03-01 Thread Kelvinelk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

when gnome-terminal is maximised it interferes with other applications.

e.g. I have both gnome-terminal and thunderbird maximised. With
thunderbird in focus I choose to close it using the x in top right
corner. Instead of closing thunderbird I get the warning Close this
window?, there are still - Clearly gnome-terminal closing.

It does not always happen, and right now, I cannot get any other
application to do it. So it may be a problem when thunderbird is running
only, or indeed be a problem with thunderbird. Anyway, if you need any
further information, just let me know

I fail to see how this is a duplicate of bug #498355. In that bug the
user is trying to install mythtv-status. mythtv-status is a backend
function and the problem I have had is on a frontend-only machine. Plus
this was an upgrade to existing packages, not attempting to install
others. Please re-visit

2009-10-17 Thread Kelvinelk
But the current release is Jaunty, not Karmic! There seems to be this
attitude that problems will simply go away on update to the next
version. This problem is reported on Jaunty against linux 2.6.28. Do we
no longer get support for the current release? Come on, play fair. The
original reporter has already supplied lots of information about this.
If you need more information, or such, then please ask, but I will not
be updating to a beta operating system on my production server.

[Bug 330272] Re: mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-10-08 Thread Kelvinelk
Apport doesn't want to catch this. It says The problem cannot be
reported - This is not a genuine ubuntu package

I will see if I can get the daily trunk builds going and attach gdb to
mythtv-backend. Please be aware that this means the WAF may go through
the floor as I iron out other issues I envisage along the way. If I
haven't reported back in a week, be concerned. ;)

[Bug 330272] Re: mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-10-08 Thread Kelvinelk
Okay, apart from there not being an up-to-date and working minimyth for my
diskless VIA frontend (WAF=gone through the floor), a desktop frontend that
crashes on channel change (known, confirmed mythtv bug)
I am now running trunk with no issues and have gdb attached to the backend. ;)

2009-10-06 Thread Kelvinelk
@MajorTom and FAO MarcRandolph
So, looks like this issue affects trunk as well as 0.21-fixes. Perhaps upstream
will pay attention to this bug now?

@Alistair
Yes it does coincide, but I rescanned on Thursday. Have you rescanned or seen
the bug occur before or after scanning?

Well, just as I was starting to forget about this bug, it happened again
today! What a shame.

[Bug 330272] Re: mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-09-03 Thread Kelvinelk
@alistair

I think it depends on whether myth protocol has changed or not. I have a
minimyth frontend which ignores a change in myth protocol and attempts
to connect anyway. Other implementations will vary and will likely not
enable you to connect if there is a mismatch in the protocol.

@all
I have now been running for over a week with --nohousekeeper switch added to
mythbackend. I have not had one instance of it crashing in this manner (kiss of
death!!!) This is unheard of for my setup over the last couple of months or so.

@MarcRandolph
No problem, and thanks for reopening.

@All with this bug
Do you all use EIT solely? Or do you use mythfilldatabase to get listings from
elsewhere also?

whoa - hang on a sec
you want to close a bug based on a guess? play fair!

the changeset you have linked to is for mythcommflag - I dont believe
this is a function associated with EIT.

@Roy Thomson

Thanks for letting us know - I am now running with --nohousekeeper -
will let you know how that goes

[Bug 330272] Re: mythbackend silently fails with QSqlQuery::exec: empty query

2009-08-26 Thread Kelvinelk
The error which i get are similar in format to Kyle's. It seems to
happen mostly in the middle of the night but it has been happening for
some time, around the time that it was first reported by Kyle. It is
only recently that it seems to be getting far more frequent.

Background to my mythtv setup:

I have been running mythtv for a couple of years now, initially using
the packages that came with ubuntu, then moving to the weekly builds
from mythbuntu. I have a remote frontend and the backend sits on a
private subnet. EIT is used to collect the radio information only on
DVB-T. Tuner card is a Hauppauge Nova-T 500.

The issue always seems to occur when the backend _appears_ to be idle,
but perhaps it is actually doing some housekeeping or something in the
background? I am reluctant to start using 0.22 and wait for the bug to
occur as we record things daily and any database backup will quickly be
out of date.

For now I will try alistair's trick of turning off the jobqueue thread,
and if that doesn't work, try running backend with --nohousekeeping
also.
