Is any work ongoing in this area, or is it just a general thanks? :)
Just FYI: I have been running Kodi on other devices lately, so I never
got to dig up the solution I mention above.

I reinstalled the latest raspbian and added the kodi using apt-get one
week ago and the problem is still there.
However, after kodi freeze 17.2-Krypton the above build command no
longer works. I am trying to find a solution.

I am curently running Raspbian testing (stretch) but has seen this on
Jessie as well.
If I install kodi (using apt-get install kodi) I get a kodi that runs
but the GUI is very slow with seconds between each GUI update.
