[Bug 1573129] Re: mysql not restarted after mysql_upgrade

2016-04-28 Thread Kived
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1571764 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1571764

I do not think this is a duplicate of that bug. In my case, the upgrade
itself completed without any errors. After the upgrade, I could connect
to MySQL, and could even issue some queries against my databases. There
were just certain commands, like the ones I showed above, that would
error out (and of course these commands are called by the MySQL GUI I
use). Simply restarting MySQL - sudo service mysql restart - resolved
the issue, so it looks like the postinst hook isn't restarting MySQL
after running mysql_upgrade (which modifies the performance_schema
tables).

[Bug 1573129] [NEW] mysql not restarted after mysql_upgrade

2016-04-21 Thread Kived
Public bug reported:

After installing mysql-server 5.7, the mysql_upgrade script is run but
the server is not restarted following this, which leads to the following
issue:

mysql> show status;
ERROR 1682 (HY000): Native table 'performance_schema'.'session_status' has the
wrong structure
mysql> show variables like 'perf%';
ERROR 1682 (HY000): Native table 'performance_schema'.'session_variables' has
the wrong structure

This is fixed by restarting MySQL after running the mysql_upgrade
script.

[Bug 1508211] Re: ALT-Left/Right changes VT from X

The sticker on the laptop says only that it's an HP 2000 Notebook PC.
But looking it up by asset code, the exact product name is HP
2000-2b89WM NB PC ALL. Here's a link to the model description:

[Bug 1508211] [NEW] ALT-Left/Right changes VT from X

2015-10-20 Thread Kived
Public bug reported:

Recently, pressing ALT-Left/Right has started switching VTs even when X
is active. This was not a problem with 15.04. I don't think I had this
issue when I initially upgraded to wily development, either, but I think
it was an update I installed in the past few days.

It does not seem to happen immediately after booting, and I am able to
use ALT-Left/Right without issue (in Terminator and PyCharm, for
example), but then at some point it will start switching VTs.

I'm filing this bug against xwayland, because it's the running X server.
It shouldn't be - I chose 'GNOME' rather than 'GNOME on Wayland' from
GDM - but that is what is running. Since I can't seem to run without
Wayland, I can't test any other way.

Another user noticed this only happens with multiple monitors. I use
multiple monitors as well, but haven't tested with only one monitor
since the bug is not consistently reproducible.

[Bug 590925] Re: broken version of netcat installed by default

2013-06-19 Thread Kived
A few years later, but I just have to join in: I don't think nc.openbsd
should ever have been added as an alternative to nc.traditional, as they
are not compatible. They should be separate packages - nc.traditional
should be netcat, and nc.openbsd should be netcat-openbsd. They should
have separate binaries that are not part of an alternatives group, and
if someone wants to use nc.openbsd then they can call it as such -
thereby specifically requesting the openbsd interface instead of the
traditional one.

Probably too late to fix that now. But just in general, barring the
obvious case of one implementation having extra functionality and
options that are not present in the other, alternatives should ALWAYS
share the same interface (think of the vast number of options to GNU
binaries that are ignored or mirror other options, PURELY to provide the
same interface that has been used by other implementations for decades).
Kind of a 'duh' moment for any programmer reading this thread.

[Bug 1179999] [NEW] apt-get source ignores default release when source package selected

2013-05-14 Thread Kived
Public bug reported:

When downloading source packages by source package name, apt-get ignores
the default (or specified) release. This does not happen when
downloading source packages by binary package name.

I noticed this bug on our build server, which runs Ubuntu 12.04 but has
sources for both precise and raring.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add an extra release to sources (i.e. add raring sources to precise)
2. Attempt to download source package by source name:
apt-get source -t precise twisted
  or: apt-get source -o APT::Default-Release=precise twisted
  or: apt-get source twisted/precise
3. Source for twisted from raring is downloaded.
4. Attempt to download source package by binary name:
apt-get source -t precise python-twisted
  or: apt-get source -o APT::Default-Release=precise python-twisted
  or: apt-get source python-twisted/precise
5. Apt will automatically select the source package from the binary name.
6. Source for twisted from precise is downloaded.

[Bug 739495]

2013-04-18 Thread Kived
+1 here as well.

I'm trying to set up a secure Apt archive using ssh to limit access. I'm
also making a Debian package to set up access to the archive, so it
would be nice to add the Host stanza to a separate file for maintenance
reasons.

Methods such as using aliases/scripts to aggregate the various config
files before execing ssh won't work for this, as apt-get is not going to
call an shell-defined alias.

Guess I'm gonna have to fall back to my old method of using scripts to
rewrite /etc/ssh/ssh_config - which is a horrible way to do things. This
is precisely why pretty much every major Linux service uses config.d
directories instead of monolithic config files. EXCEPT OPENSSH.

This request has now been ignored for 4 years. It would be nice to see
some sort of response.

[Bug 1168565] [NEW] need working version in LTS

2013-04-12 Thread Kived
Public bug reported:

Version 0.4.1 has a known bug that prevents it from working at all on a new
installation (AttributeError: 'Job' object has no attribute 'id'). This bug was
fixed in 0.4.2 in July 2012 (and later backported to 0.4.1.1).
Upstream bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=671635

I see that there is a build for 0.4.2 in raring, but currently i386 only
(our server is amd64).

I would like for a working version to be ported to 12.04 LTS, as 0.4.1
is the ONLY available version in 12.04 so I can't even downgrade the
package in order to have a working rebuildd daemon.

[Bug 1108630] Re: mysql-workbench SQL Editor does not show any schemas

2013-04-04 Thread Kived
Same problems here on Raring 64-bit. mysql-workbench-gpl-5.2.47-1ubu1204
(Oracle package; with libctemplate0 from Precise) does not show query
results, nor does it populate any tab in the bottom panel (Action
Output, Text Output, History). mysql-workbench-5.2.40+dfsg-2 (Ubuntu
package) is the same, with the addition of not displaying schema info in
the left sidebar.

[Bug 1070876] [NEW] Update Manager will not start if any repository failed to download

2012-10-24 Thread Kived
Public bug reported:

In 12.10, Update Manager now shows a dialog while automatically checking
for updates. However, if any repository in your sources.list(.d) is
invalid, Update Manager will not continue. This is obviously not the
functionality desired by a user, who still wants to update packages even
if one source is bad. If a third-party repository or PPA is taken down,
that should not stop the entire system from updating.

In my case, the failing repo is my own. As I just upgraded my
workstation yesterday, I have not yet set up a quantal build environment
on our build server and fully expected the repo failure. I did not
expect that failure to break Update Manager.

[Bug 988395] Re: Pandora v34 API Update Required

2012-04-26 Thread Kived
FYI - this is apparently fixed in pianobar on github:
https://github.com/PromyLOPh/pianobar/issues/236

Hoping that can help get pithos working again. :)

[Bug 972696] [NEW] update manager starts late

2012-04-03 Thread Kived
Public bug reported:

Update manager starts too late now. In previous Ubuntu versions, it
started checking for updates as soon as you logged in and the dialog
popped up less than a minute later, but now it waits like 5-10 minutes
before starting. It's really annoying to get to work and start all my
applications, wait for them to all load, THEN find out that half the
applications I opened need updating and that I'll have to restart those
applications.

I'd much rather know right away that there are updates available so I
can run them BEFORE starting applications, and especially for updates
that require a system restart this is extra important, as I'm not
restarting my computer after I just finished starting it up and getting
my apps loaded.

If there is some reason for it starting late in some situations (as I
can't see any reasonable user objection to having it load right away),
then at least maybe this could be a setting.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: update-manager 1:0.152.25.8
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-17.30-generic 3.0.22

[Bug 493852] Re: popularity-contest will stat() every file installed file or ~80k files on my system which grinds things to a halt

2012-01-09 Thread Kived
I've now opted out of popularity-contest. It's not worth it to me to
have my system grind to a halt every week, and I generally just get
pissed off and kill the process anyway. Microsoft collects application
usage information in Windows as well, and while the information isn't
always 100% accurate, Programs and Features loads in only a few seconds.
C'mon, Ubuntu... you're not allowed to lose to Windows! :P
