[Bug 1895109] [NEW] mm/slub kernel oops on focal kernel 5.4.0-45

2020-09-10 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]
As reported on bug 1894780 (Oops and hang when starting LVM snapshots on
5.4.0-47), some changes applied to focal/linux 5.4.0-45 introduced a regression
likely on the mm/slub code. A fix hasn't been identified yet, however,
reverting commit "mm/slub: fix a memory leak in sysfs_slab_add()", upstream
dde3c6b72a16c2db826f54b2d49bdea26c3534a2, applied to focal/linux as part of
v5.4.47 upstream stable release (bug 1884089), seems to improve the situation.

[ Fix ]
I propose to revert commit "mm/slub: fix a memory leak in sysfs_slab_add()"
while we don't find a better fix for it.

[ Test Case ]
Please see bug 1894780.

[ Regression potential ]
The commit being reverted fixes a memory leak from a 2015 commit, so the
chances of reverting it introducing more regressions is low. However, if it
does we can expect issues on the sysfs slab code during memory allocations.

[Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration

2020-08-26 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
This seems to be also affecting Bionic:
http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/s/systemd/bionic/amd64

We did upload new kernels, so it's difficult to isolate the issue to
systemd, but the failures are similar to what we are seeing in Focal.

[Bug 1892386] [NEW] test_bpf in net from ubuntu_kernel_selftests ADT failure with xenial/linux s390x

Public bug reported:

Another issue with this testcase has been fixed recently by bug 1879752,
however this is still failing on s390x (it passes on the other arches
now).

[Bug 1892213] Re: psock_snd.sh in net from ubuntu_kernel_selftests ADT failure with focal/linux

2020-08-20 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
I have reverted the following two commits from Ubuntu-5.4.0-44.48 and
the test is now successfully:

commit 78aedad3a6b9264a27f30d2c1cf50e6f94d22530
Author: Eric Dumazet
Date: Thu May 28 14:57:47 2020 -0700

commit 3bfeea9b0b203e14acb2c9ba122da08e3a6eb93c
Author: Willem de Bruijn

The description from 7c6d2ecbda really seems to match the change that's causing
the testcase to not fail anymore.

[Bug 1892213] Re: psock_snd.sh in net from ubuntu_kernel_selftests ADT failure with focal/linux

2020-08-19 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
I was able to reproduce it with mainline kernel 5.9.0-050900rc1-generic.

The testcase "raw gso min size - 1 (fails)" is failing because what it
executes ("./in_netns.sh ./psock_snd -v -c -g -l 1472") is returning
success when it expects a failure.

So I'm wondering if psock_snd.sh is making some assumption which is not
valid anymore.

This happens because this step needs the 'nf_defrag_ipv6' module to be
  loaded.

This has always failed like this with the ADT tests but not always with
our Regression Tests. I suspect that on Regression Tests there might be
another testcase that's run before it that loads this module.

[Bug 1889449] Re: 18.04 to 20.04.1 upgrade on raspberry pi removes too many kernel meta packages

2020-08-04 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
@brian-murray,

Running the new release upgrader tarball from the link you provided
seems to have fixed the issue. After removing the unused package I still
have the linux-raspi meta packages installed:

$ dpkg -l | grep linux | grep "5\.4\.0\."
ii linux-headers-raspi 5.4.0.1015.50 arm64
Raspberry Pi Linux kernel headers
ii linux-image-raspi 5.4.0.1015.50 arm64
Raspberry Pi Linux kernel image
ii linux-raspi 5.4.0.1015.50 arm64
Complete Raspberry Pi Linux kernel and headers

Thanks!

[Bug 1889449] [NEW] 18.04 to 20.04.1 upgrade on raspberry pi removes too many kernel meta packages

2020-07-29 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
Public bug reported:

In a raspberry pi system running 18.04, when running "do-release-upgrade -d" to
upgrade to 20.04.1,
the transition from linux-raspi2-hwe-18.04 to linux-raspi doesn't seem to be
done correctly and the system ends up without this and the linux-headers-raspi
meta packages.

These are the meta packages installed before the release upgrade:

ii linux-headers-raspi2-hwe-18.04 5.3.0.1017.6
arm64Linux kernel headers for Raspberry Pi systems.
ii linux-image-raspi2-hwe-18.045.3.0.1017.6
arm64Linux kernel image for Raspberry Pi systems.
ii linux-raspi2-hwe-18.04 5.3.0.1017.6
arm64Complete Linux kernel for Raspberry Pi systems.

After the upgrade is complete this is the only kernel meta installed:

ii linux-image-raspi 5.4.0.1015.50
arm64Raspberry Pi Linux kernel image

During the upgrade, these kernel packages update are made:

At the end of the upgrade process, do-release-upgrade calculates the obsolete
packages and remove the following kernel packages:

  linux-headers-5.3.0-1017-raspi2
  linux-headers-5.3.0-1030-raspi2 linux-headers-5.4.0-1015-raspi
  linux-headers-raspi linux-headers-raspi2-hwe-18.04
  linux-image-5.3.0-1017-raspi2 linux-image-raspi2-hwe-18.04
  linux-modules-5.3.0-1017-raspi2 linux-raspi
  linux-raspi-headers-5.4.0-1015 linux-raspi2-5.3-headers-5.3.0-1017
  linux-raspi2-5.3-headers-5.3.0-1030 linux-raspi2-hwe-18.04

Please note that the flavour of the raspberry pi kernel changed from
"raspi2" on 18.04 to "raspi" on 20.04. The transitional packages in
20.04 seem to be correct, so this behaviour is likely an issue with do-
release-upgrade not handling this rename correctly and removing too many
packages.

The messages on dmesg "tls_set_device_offload_rx: netdev lo with no TLS

logged while running another net/tls testcase and can be seen also on
previous kernel versions in which the hang can't be reproduced.

Hi Kelsey, sorry I haven't noticed you already opened this bug against
the lxc issue and opened another one (bug 1886790). As I have already
provided the new bug to the lxc team to look at, I'll mark this one as a
duplicate. Thanks!

The failing test seems to be:

FAIL: lxc-tests: lxc-test-device-add-remove (0s)
---

This is a regression from the 4.15/5.3 to 5.4 kernels in Bionic. Note
that this testcase is successful on Focal with the same kernel version.

[Bug 1882217] Re: [SRU] virtualbox 5.2.*

2020-06-30 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
The current version of virtualbox-hwe in bionic-updates
(5.2.34-dfsg-0~ubuntu18.04.1) fails to build with the new linux-hwe-edge
kernel based on 5.4 (see bug 1884097). I can confirm that the new
version in bionic-proposed (5.2.42-dfsg-0~ubuntu1.18.04.1) can be built
successfully.

+ [Impact]
+ Testcase test_bpf of ubuntu_kernel_selftests.net regressed on xenial/linux
4.4.0-180.210.

- The test_bpf testcase what it does is only loading the test_bpf module,
+ What the test_bpf testcase does is only loading the test_bpf module,
  which reports the following error:

  May 20 16:57:21 autopkgtest kernel: [ 88.143826] test_bpf: #250
BPF_MAXINSNS: ld_abs+vlan_push/pop
  jited:1 ret -12 != 3055 FAIL (1 times)

This is cased by upstream commit 636c2628086e "net: skbuff: Remove
errornous length validation in skb_vlan_pop()" which we applied from
  stable upstream v4.4.223.

- The fix is upstream commit 0d906b1e8d40 "bpf, test: fix ld_abs + vlan
- push/pop stress test" applied to v4.9.
+ [Fix]
+ The fix is upstream commit 0d906b1e8d40 "bpf, test: fix ld_abs + vlan
push/pop stress test" from v4.9 which can cherry-picked to xenial.
+
+ [Test case]
+ Load the test_bpf module, it should return no errors.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ Low. The fix changes only a bpf test module and was tested to fix the
reported issue.
