[Bug 992468] Re: network print : no possible with 12.04

2012-08-12 Thread Kris Marien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 945028 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945028

Hi,

With help from the ubuntu-nl forum I managed to get the printer working
over the network.

I configured with cups at http://localhost:631/admin

Adding the printer by doing a network search (old way) gave me that error. (I
guess it was using samba for network printing here because my printers adress
was starting with smb:// ).
But adding the printer with the cups administration panel works just fine.

Since I already had the updated cups on my system I can't tell if this
bug affected me or not but I can print now over the network.

Could be another bug (samba) or I did not configure samba correctly. I
don't care anymore because it works now.

Thanks.

[Bug 945028] Re: network printing via LiveBox: cups-ipp-missing-validate-job

2012-08-12 Thread Kris Marien
Hi,

problem solved. I added network printer @ http://localhost:631/admin and
not by a network search in the printer configuration utility. I guess it
is no more using samba for printing now but the cups server instead.

[Bug 992468] Re: network print : no possible with 12.04

2012-08-09 Thread Kris Marien
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 945028 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/945028

Still not solved for me.

I have ubuntu 12.04 fully updated. I can add my network printer with a
network search.

When I print a test page, finally it ends in 'waiting for autorization'.
When I autorize manually with user and pass the status goes finally back to the
same status 'waiting for autorization'

I have an HP940C connected to my ubuntu desktop.

I can't print from my netbook that is in the same network cause of this
error.

Any help yet? Or workaround for this problem? Should I add the ppa to
fix this problem?

[Bug 945028] Re: network printing via LiveBox: cups-ipp-missing-validate-job

2012-08-09 Thread Kris Marien
I can add my network printer by making a network search. I have 2 ubuntu
12.04 systems, both updated.

When I print a test page I get in the following message in the printer
status: waiting for autorization (or something like that, my ubuntu is
dutch)

When I autorize in the status window it finally returns to the same
message: awaiting autorization.

Help, I still can't print from my netbook over the network to the
printer connected on my desktop.

[Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

2012-07-04 Thread Kris Marien
Additional information about this bug:

the incorrect readings of gpm only occure 2 me when I unplug the cable
that is connected to my laptop and they don't occur when I unplug the
power cable from the wall contact.

Maybe this helps solving the problem and maybe some people can try it
and use it as a workaround.

I don't have that laptop anymore but I found a fix a year ago in the

Can't find it right now but I had to do someting like this:

blacklist intel agp in modprobe.conf
use nv as default driver in xorg

maybe someting else was involved but I hope this comment will help.

even a better workaround is setting when lid closed tell it to do

This worked for me when unplugging the cable it only blanked the screen
or did nothing instead of hibernating.

Maybe there is a solution to be found in this context?

RE: [Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

2010-12-08 Thread Kris Marien
As a mentioned before: changing the action for lid closed to do
nothing or blank screen is an other solution.

With this change if unplugging the ac cable the laptop just does nothing
or blanks the screen.

This worked for me. Is anybody else helped with this info? Maybe there
is a solution to find in this workaround.

The initial workaround did not work for me.

Brand new Dell Vostro 3700 running Maverick, fully charged battery, seeing the
same behavior - it wants to hibernate as soon as I unplug.
Using the workaround, when I unplug it still says 5 minutes of power left
(but at least does not hibernate), then within a few seconds it updates to tell
me I have 2 hours 45 minutes of power. This looks really sloppy and confusing.

[Bug 427629] Re: When i remove the AC power cable from my laptop, the computer goes to sleep.

2010-08-04 Thread Kris Marien
The issue that the netbook is going to sleep can be solved in gnome-
powermanger

I set the action for When lid gets closed (my ubuntu is Dutch, sorry
for translation) to blank screen or nothing.

Then when unplugging the power cable the netbook should blank the screen
or just do nothing.

It works for me.

[Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

2010-06-21 Thread Kris Marien
Another addendum to previous posts:

I even could reset the value of event when critical battery to suspend
(I also changed policy of upower suspend back to yes).

So it seems that unpluggin the power cable puts the system to
suspend/hibernate/blank screen only because it thinks that the laptop
screen is being closed.

I also get the warning message of 2 minutes left when unpluggin the
power cable but there is no action because of this.

Maybe there is a better way to let the system check that the laptop screen is
open/closed.

Same problem on my netbook with UNR 10.04, fully updated.

When I unplug the power cable the system goes standby after displaying
the time message (2 minutes left). When I press the power to revive the
system everything is alright again.

The workaround did not work for me. I also did set the action for
critical battery to nothing in gconf-editor but that don't work either.

If I have to take an action or post an output of some kind here let me

[Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

2010-06-14 Thread Kris Marien
I also found out that:

if I change the value for suspend from yes to no in
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.upower.policy

that I can unplug the power cable without problems (after 1 reboot)

but then the following occurs:

if I change the value for behaviour when I close my laptop screen from
blank to hibernate

then when I unplug the power cable my laptop does suspend with the
screen open.

For now I leave the option for closing the screen to blank and I can work with
the cable unplugged without problems.

I don't know if this information is related to the bug but maybe it can
help.

I also could change the settings for critical battery back to hibernate,
wich I set to nothing as trying to work around the bug.
