Hi,
Thanks for getting the updates released for Jammy and Noble.  Is there any plan 
to get packages for Focal released as part of the updates cycle?  The status 
here says the fix is committed.  It's where we ran into this issue initially, 
which is part of the reason we're still interested in picking up the fix here, 
at least as long as Focal is still supported.

My TPlink router is not very configurable.  I can connect to it using
`--data-ciphers-fallback AES-128-CBC`, but this seems to be impossible
to configure in the network manager.

This is similar to the bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-openvpn/+bug/1993634
which states that --data-ciphers has been added upstream in debian 
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1012664), yet there is no 
mention of --data-ciphers-fallback.

If I try to manually edit the .yaml file in /etc/netplan/, by adding the
line `vpn.data-ciphers-fallback: "AES-128-CBC"` I get the following
error in /var/sys/syslog:

It's been a couple months.  We'd really love to get the fix for Focal, Jammy, 
and Noble.  Any chance this could get sponsored and approved soon?

I also checked up on upstream and it appears that they're preparing a
1.47.1 release of e2fsprogs that should include this fix.  It hasn't
been tagged yet, but they're starting the process:

[Impact]

Tearing down kvm VMs on arm64 can cause softlockups to appear on console.  When
terminating VMs with > 100Gb of memory and 4k pages, the memory unmap times
often exceed 20 seconds, which can trigger the softlockup detector.  Portions of
the unmap path also have interrupts disabled while tlb invalidation instructions
run, which can further contribute to latency problems.  My team has observed
networking latency problems if the cpu where the teardown is occurring is also
mapped to handle a NIC interrupt.
  
Fortunately, a solution has been in place since Linux 6.1.  A small pair of
patches modify stage2_apply_range to operate on smaller memory ranges before
performing a cond_resched.  With these patches applied, softlockups are no
longer observed when tearing down VMs with large amounts of memory. 

Although I also submitted the patches to 5.15 LTS (link to LTS submission in
"Backport" section), I'd appreciate it if Ubuntu were willing to take this
submission in parallel since the impact has left us unable to utilize arm64 for
kvm until we can either migrate our hypervisors to hugepages, pick up this fix,
or some combination of the two.

Backport the following fixes from linux 6.1:

5994bc9e05 KVM: arm64: Limit stage2_apply_range() batch size to largest block
  
The fix is in 5994bc9e05 and 3b5c082bbf is a dependency that was submitted as
part of the series.  The original submission is here:

Executed the test from 5994bc9e05 as well as my own run of kvm_page_table_test
on a VM with 4k pages and a memory size > 100Gb.  Without the patches,
softlockups were observed in both tests.  With the patches applied, the tests
ran without incident.

This was tested against both LTS 5.15.150 and linux-aws-5.15.0-1055.

Regression potential is low.  These patches have been present in Linux since 6.1
and appear to have needed no further maintenance.

Thanks for the update, Matthew.  We're looking forward to getting this
fix from Ubuntu.  My team patched our version the e2fsprogs package from
Focal about a year ago, before we submitted the fix upstream.  Since
that patch, we haven't had any re-occurrences of the problem.  It used
to show up about 4-5 times a day for us. Glad that the fix is working in
your tests as well.

1. connect an external monitor and choose "Join Displays" in the GNOME
displays settings. Make the external monitor the secondary display.

2. open Writer on the external monitor

3. choose "fullscreen" on writer using Ctr-Shft-J

4. see that it goes to fullscreen but relocates to the primary monitor.

c) Provide any test case(s) which will help us confirm the problem

This happens with any writer file. There are no test cases.

d) Provide screenshots of the problem if you think it might help

I'll attached a video of the external monitor.


One thing to note is that after exiting fullscreen, the window returns to the 
external monitor, but has the dimensions of the primary monitor.

I am using GNOME 42.1 on Ubuntu 22.04. I leave the "Automatic Time Zone" on. 
When traveling last week to San Diego, with a layover in Seattle, I noticed 
that my timezone updated, but to the wrong timezone (MDT). I then got back on 
the plane and arrived in San Diego. This time the timezone updated to PTD as it 
should. I am now back in Seattle and the timezone has now updated from the 
correct zone PTD to the wrong one MDT.

This is in both list and icon view.  It was working before I updated to 22.04 
from 21.10.
I see that you marked this a low importance, but it makes it extremely 
difficult to use the computer, as I have to keep my keyboard nearby and 
reattach it the tablet just to open a file, copy, paste, etc.

4. try to choose something from the menu

The menu disappears but the chosen menu item is not activated, and

After some time using firefox, I can no longer open a new window.

=> ps -ef | grep -c firefox
21

=> /snap/bin/firefox

=> ps -ef | grep -c firefox
21

There is no new process created and the window never appears.
I can open new tabs, but when I drag the tab to make it a new window, it is 
never created.

The only remedy is to restart firefox. Sometimes I need to SIGTERM all
of the zombi processes.

I noticed that touch in firefox was no longer working after upgrade to
22.04.  It looks like the xwayland version of firefox is loading and the
error message "glxtest: Could not connect to wayland socket" is
reported.

I have a Qualcomm Atheros AR93xx Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) which
I've been using for years on my machine without a problem.  I just
updated to Jammy and I no longer see my wifi network (all my other
computer are using it).  It was the network that I used to download the
update (updated from 20.04).

I do see a ton of networks, however, using wavemon or nmcli, and can use
my phone hotspot without a problem.

I haven't found any alarming entries in /var/log/syslog.

Please let me know if I can help debug this.

An update to my system has broken italics support in gnome terminal. This makes 
it hard to edit latex files with VIM, since VIM will show all text within 
\emph{} as boxes.
If I type the following command at the prompt

I get three empty boxes where the letters "foo" should be. See the

(PN7320A). The pen mostly works, aside from a periodic bug
(https://github.com/linuxwacom/input-wacom/issues/281). It shows up as a

Running 21.10 and Gnome 40.4 the screen recording no longer works with
the Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R keystroke. A .webm file does appear in the Videos
folder but it is empty. The orange circle does appear in the upper
corner, but it will not go away.

Further Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R strokes do not make a new .webm file or remove
the orange circle.

This is the strangest bug I've encountered in my 20+ years of linux use.

Using an external monitor I am editing a Snakefile with vim and syntax
highlighting. Under certain condition the monitor will go to sleep.

0. download the Snakefile, vimrc, and the colorscheme that are the attached 
archive
1. move the colorscheme to ~/.vim/colors/
1. `vim -u vimrc Snakefile`
2. delete one of the quotes, and see the external monitor go into sleep mode.

Pertinent points:
- If I disable the custom colorscheme or disable syntax highlighting there is 
no problem.
- If I move the gnome-terminal onto the builtin display, then the external 
monitor reactivates.

I wouldn't normally report this bug because it seems so specific to my
setup. What is alarming is that a vim session in a gnome-terminal, under
certain conditions, can cause the monitor to go to sleep!

I experience the infinite loop on boot about half the time. The OP
speaks of "misconfiguration because of user error", yet I'm not the type
to twittle with the system when it's not broken, so I'm not sure how
this misconfiguration happened.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

When the machine does boot I can get this error message from

I've also noted some peculiarities with respect to different clients:

- computer: host/sink/server volume remains constant until source/client goes 
to 0, then silent
- Android phone: sink volume constant until the lowest 10% on source, then the 
volume decreases in 4 increments.
- ipad: sink volume constant no matter what the volume on the ipad source.

I'm using my 20.04 system as a media center. It's got a bluetooth
adapter plugged into a USB port. I can connect to the system with my
phone and ipad as an A2DP source and play music.

The problem is that the volume on the source device is not respected

When the volume on the source device goes to 0, the sound is muted as
expected, but any other volume on the source device leads to the same
volume on the Ubuntu server. The only way to adjust the volume is from
the server.

I upgraded my Ubuntu client to 20.04 and could continue to connect to my
WPA Hotspot running on an Ubuntu server. Upon update of the server to
20.04 I could no longer connect with any of my various client OSs.

After using the updated network-manager from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1870359,
I can now connect to the hotspot from all of my machines running many
flavors of OS (Windows, MacOS, Android, Ubuntu 19.10), but I cannot
connect from my machine running Ubuntu 20.04.

If I turn off the encryption on the hotspot or turn on WEP encryption
(using nm-connection-editor), then I can connect.

Seeing that my client running 19.10 can connect, I'm not sure if this is
a problem specif to my particular laptop running 20.04, or if it is
rather a problem that any client updating to 20.04 will have. I will
update my other 19.10 machine, that is currently working with the WPA
hotspot, to help differentiate between these two possibilities.

On the computer with the hotspot, if I make the network open, with no
WPA, then I can connect and use the hotspot with all machines.

If I enable WEP in the hotspot settting (nm-connection-editor), all
machines can still connect and use the hotspot.

If I enbale WPA in the hotspot settings (nm-connection-editor), then my
Ubuntu laptop (another machine) cannot connect to the hotspot, while all
other machines can.

Another related bug is that the "Turn On WiFi Hotspots..." menu item is
always gray. The only way I can create or modify a hotspot is using the
nm-connection-editor. Is this a bug I should report elsewhere?

With the new packages installed I can now connect and use the hotspot as long 
as the WPA is disabled.
Thanks for the fix!

As soon as I re-enable the WPA, I can no longer connect with my Ubuntu laptop.
I can, however, connect from Android, Windows 10, and MacOS when the WPA in 
enabled.

Is this a different Ubuntu client bug?

1. I removed the network from the Wi-Fi setting and "Turn On Wi-Fi Hotspot..." 
is not grayed out.
2. I opened nm-connection-editor and click the +, then "Wi-Fi", then chose:
  - Mode: Hotspot
  - Device: wlp3s0
  - No security
3. I connect with Ubuntu from another machine. There does appear to be a 
connection (WiFi settings has a check mark next to the network), but there is 
no internet and the icon remains a question mark.

This machine has gone through all successive upgrades of all versions
(not just LTS) since 2014. This is probably some incompatibility between
some version of the Unity and Gnome. Is it possible that Unity used this
as a way to hide users from the login screen? I believe I remember
having that as an option at some point.

The new user appears in the control center. The unlock button also
appears now.

The funny thing is that the new user's uid is 500:

=> id -u test
500

I did reboot before trying. Nothing changed with gnome-control-center.

I used "usermod" to change the uid.
Then I used "find / -user 501 -exec chown -h kms {} \;" to change any other 
files in the filesystem.

I've changed my UID to 1001 but continue to have the same problem with
the settings.
