[Bug 1940143] [NEW] installer crashed at grub step, LG gram 2021 17

2021-08-16 Thread Kristopher J Rodak
Public bug reported:

this was a re-install on a win 10 dual boot. Grub had vanished and
ubuntu became un-bootable. so I was installing ubuntu 20.04.02 over
itself. The installation appeared to be complete, but failed at the grub
installation step. The "Restart Now" dialog was visible. Hardware is LG
gram 17 2021 with default bios settings, e.g. secure boot not disabled,
etc. Boot order did have ubuntu first, and the grub menu was working
until I booted into win 10. after that, it booted directly into win 10.
When I used F10 to get to the boot menu, ubuntu was there in the top
position, but it would not boot.

[Bug 1795278] [NEW] software-properties-kde attempts to use KUrl but it doesn't exist

2018-09-30 Thread Kristopher Ives
Public bug reported:

Release: Kubuntu 18.04
Version: 0.96.24.32.1

When clicking the "Import Key" button in the "Authentication" section of
the panel it throws this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File
"/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/kde/SoftwarePropertiesKDE.py",
 line 667, in add_key_clicked
url = KUrl.fromPath(home)
NameError: name 'KUrl' is not defined

While this doesn't crash the program it causes nothing to happen when
clicking the button. Running the program in a terminal reveals the error
being printed to stderr.

After debugging it appears KUrl doesn't exist anywhere and I'm not sure
if's a python module that has changed.

[Bug 1579734] [NEW] installation media (external 36gb hard drive) won't run live ubuntu, only the install option. Spits out errno5 every time I try to install to internal ssd, always at a different po

2016-05-09 Thread Kristopher
Public bug reported:

Upgraded to 16.04 from 14.04, and upon discovering that it wasn't
complete enough for my use, I decided to roll back. Downloaded the
14.04.4 iso from ubuntu website, ran "sudo dd if=(iso file)
of=/dev/sdb(external hard drive). Everything went smoothly, as usual.
Booted installation media and went straight to install because I assumed
it would be a quick process. ... I've tried it probably 10 times now,
and get "errno5" every single time. Always at a different point during
install. I've told it to use the entire disk where my 16.04 install was,
in order to wipe out any remnants of the old install and allow for a
fresh experience...It wiped grub only, now I haven't got a single
bootable os on any of my harddrives, as the "boot ubuntu to try it out"
option on my installation disk, doesn't seem to work. It boots to a
black screen. I can't manually wipe the ssd for installation in grub
either. I am unable to select the format option on the partition that
I'd like to wipe.

[Bug 1066410] Re: lightdm doesn't load correctly on Ubuntu 12.10

2012-11-10 Thread Kristopher
Same problem as well. The problem started after switching to a SSD disk
instead of an old normal disk. In most cases I got a printoutScanning
for btrfs filesystems after which the booting stopped.

Adding the sleep line mentioned in earlier posts solved the issue for
me. Prior to that I worked around the issue by doing ctrl+alt+f1,
logging in and manually running sudo lightdm.

[Bug 1020196] Re: Flash videos in browser play at several times normal speed

2012-08-18 Thread Kristopher Russo
I am using my brand new System76 12.04 LTS laptop. This issue has
plagued me since day one. It is very irritating. The only temporary fix
I found is rebooting the machine. Any updates on this issue?

** Description changed:

Flash videos play at several times (3-4x, probably) normal speed. After
booting up the computer, flash videos play normally in the browser.
After about 30 minutes, they begin playing faster than normal.
Restarting the browser has no effect. Once the problem begins, it occurs
in both Chrome and Firefox, until the computer is restarted.

I have observed this problem both in kernel version 3.4.0 and in 3.4.4.
I have the xorg-edgers updates installed (due to other problems for my
computer if I use the older xorg repositories).

[Bug 157319] Re: Xlib: extension RANDR missing on display :0.0 while using -nvidia with Xinerama turned on

2012-07-17 Thread Kristopher Ives
Bug affects me pretty often when using a dual monitor setup to edit
text.

kris@knix1 ~/Desktop $ cat /etc/*-release
DISTRIB_ID=LinuxMint
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=julia
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Linux Mint 10 Julia

I think it's related to something being mounted within a different
context. For example, if I switch to my secondary monitor and start
using nautilus with an SFTP mount it will auto-mount that. When I try to
use it again later it will give me the XRANDR missing problems. Doesn't
seem to happen if I stay diligent about making mounts on the correct
Xorg context.

[Bug 849297] [NEW] ICS - Internet Connection Sharing

2011-09-13 Thread Kristopher
Public bug reported:

OS:
Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1

Brief Description:
11.04 worked well. With the 11.10 beta 1 release I encountered issues with ICS
via lan eth0 when attempting to share my wifi connection to a desktop. Both use
Ubuntu and the issue is only present in 11.10 beta 1. Everything seems to be
configured correctly but I encounter the computer in which I share the
connection, to be repeatedly connecting and dropping the connection in 5 sec
intervals when attempting ICS until I receive a bug notice when I attempt to
try other settings. Everything else seems to work with Network connections
except ICS. Sorry for the lack of info or logs. This was tested in the 64 bit
version using Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 - as said before the computers used were plug
and play with 11.04.

** Description changed:

  OS:

  Brief Description:
- 11.04 worked well. With the 11.10 beta 1 release I encountered issues with
ICS via lan eth0 when attempting to share my wifi connection to a desktop. Both
use Ubuntu and the issue is only present in 11.10 beta 1. Everything seems to
be configured correctly but I encounter the computer in which I share the
connection, to be repeatedly connecting and dropping the connection in 5 sec
intervals when attempting ICS until I receive a bug notice when I attempt to
try other settings. Everything else seems to work with Network connections
except ICS. Sorry for the lack of info or logs. This was tested in the 64 bit
version using Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 - as said before the computers used were plug
and play with 11.04.

[Bug 828929] [NEW] Settings change with each boot

2011-08-18 Thread Kristopher Clark
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 x64 on a Dell inspiron 1545. I have upgraded
my HDD to a 110GB SSD. After I did that every time I boot my machine
the icons and setting change. Sometimes I have the older looking icons
and sometimes I have the default 11.04 icons. The apps that I have
selected to remove from the Unity launcher will appear even though I
have told them not to. The correct programs are locked in the Unity
launcher when the default 11.04 icons appear. Can anyone confirm this?
I am running Kernel 3.0.1 from kernel.org this problem is the same on
the stock 11.04 kernel as well and is also there on the 32bit version.

[Bug 713482] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.100.82.38 bdcom-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-04-29 Thread Kristopher Clark
I had the same problem, I had to reinstall. For some reason you need to
install things in a specific order to get this to work.

After the install open update manager.

Update all packages

Close update manager

Then install the sta package from the additional drivers program and it
should work for you now

 Bug description:
Every once in a while my system becomes completely absorbed by IOWait,
which I believe is when swapping occurs. I have 2GB RAM and it rarely
uses more than 1GB of RAM. I have tried changing vm.swappiness to 0
  without any success as well.

I would love to provide a `pidstat -d` output or similar, but
seriously the system becomes completely unresponsive for long periods
of time. It displays mouse animations and continues to play musing in
Pandora or Rhythmbox (although it may stutter) and when I regain
control of the system there are no processes with unreasonable
  statistics. I don't believe it's related to update-apt-xapian-index,
which I think everyone hates and is poorly designed. I have tried JFS
and XFS, and this hasn't made a difference.

Anoyne care to actually find out what is causing this? IOWait related
issues are a huge problem and nobody seems to care. Any debugging tips
would be much appreciated, but remember that I cannot execute anything
  when this is happeneing.

I suspect that the kernel page flushing (kpdflush?) may be the cause.
Anyone think it would help to put swap as a file on the partition for
  better IO scheduling?

  Thanks!

[Bug 690448] [NEW] gedit hangs before closing files

2010-12-14 Thread Kristopher Ives
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I stay connected to a lot of SFTP mounts. Sometimes things are slow to
respond under certain conditions, which I'm not really sure what they
are, but I do know that closing files always does it. I suspect it's
doing a filemtime() style check.

The problem is if you have 15 files open, it could take minutes to close
gedit safely.

[Bug 574329] Re: gdm-session-worker crashes on logout when pam_mount is enabled

2010-12-10 Thread Kristopher Phillips
Why is this fix not being pushed out to the main repo's so that we can
implement the fix more widespread. I had to go through and image an
entire library worth of machines with this pre-rolled up because gdm
crashes all the time when we use pam_mount. Thanks fedsed for the
fixes. I keep this page bookmarked in the event that I need to make a
new image of 10.04.

[Bug 674112] Re: XOrg Segmentation Fault with XServer when running MultiSeatX

2010-12-10 Thread Kristopher Phillips
As a workaround to anyone dealing with this:
Change the value in KDMRC that allows for retrying to start kdm several times,
and this will work around the bug until a fix is made. Now, this only affects
me once in a great while. Still bothersome though and would like an update on
what's going on with this bug.

this installation was from the kubuntu with kde3 remix, guess some of the
leftovers could have been from that

casper is for the live cd (from read-only media); do not think any part of it
belongs on an installed system

eventually i just removed the dir and its contents:

[Bug 674112] [NEW] XOrg Segmentation Fault with XServer when running MultiSeatX

2010-11-11 Thread Kristopher Phillips
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04LTS with the latest GDM, XServer, and all
packages.

Video driver: radeon

Output of lspci -v:
http://pastebin.com/dUy0wRsr

I'm operating a MultiSeatX environment for a school for low cost
computer solutions using the ATI cards that you can see in the lspci -v
output. I use KDM for my login manager and Gnome for the desktop
environment for the students. Here is my KDMRC and XOrg.conf:

Xorg.conf:
http://pastebin.com/pjXCQv5D

KDMRC:
http://pastebin.com/4PatJCpR

My problem is that once in a while, some or all of the screens will die upon
start up with the following log:
http://pastebin.com/qg1TtiXz

I need to figure out why its happening and implement a workaround for
the problem until a patch can be made.

2010-10-28 Thread Kristopher Clark
okay so from what I've learned so far is

cannot register existing type `_PolkitError'

might be because your on a 64 bit platform?

Can you try running the live cd of 32 and 64 and see if you can recreate
the problem?

also was this a fresh install or an upgrade? and how did you do this
upgrade if it was

and I doubt this will work but try to kill the nm-applet and restart it
using sudo and you can also try gksudo

[Bug 538849] Re: Uses 100% CPU

2010-03-28 Thread Kristopher Ives
Just wanted to update and let everyone know that this hasn't happened to
me recently. My version of evolution-data-server is the same, but I
suspect my version of gnome-keyring has bumped. I'm fully updated as of
today (Mar 28, 2010) on Ubuntu 10.4 upgraded from 9.10

[Bug 538849] [NEW] Uses 100% CPU

2010-03-14 Thread Kristopher Ives
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

Sometimes I'll catch evolution-data-server taking up all the CPU. I
don't use Evolution for anything, and I've never put any data into that
system or have any kind of account linked with it. I think this bug is
different than other bugs that are related to logging in or using
evolution, since it usually happens after my session has been active for
a long time.

Package version 2.28.3.1-0ubuntu1

[Bug 518088] Re: Create another plugin for indicator, don't touch status icon one

2010-03-10 Thread Kristopher Ives
There needs to be a runtime option to change between using a
notification icon or the indicator-applet. Right now the only way is to
recompile Rhythmbox without that patch, which I've done in this PPA:

ppa:kris-santiance/oldrb

Removing the indicator-applet or even the indicator-applet-session are
both not a good alternative, since the power-manager applet has been
moved into the former.

the Purchased from Ubuntu One area below Music. I never purchased
any tracks from the store.

Any API account can only stream radio to Last.fm's paid subscribers.
