[Bug 313724] Re: hibernate doesn't work
Neither 2.6.31-17-generic, 2.6.31-16-generic, or 2.6.31-19-generic will suspend or hibernate on a Dell m4400 when a user is logged in via gdm. I'm running swap off a separate partition. No errors appear in the /var/log/pm-suspend.log. I have a suspicion this is not a kernel problem. But I'm going to try installing some other older kernels. This used to work fine. Note: I can suspend from the lower-right gdm menu before a user is logged in, but not when a user is logged in via gdm. When it fails to suspend, I see disk activity for a few seconds and I get a flashing cursor in the top-left and the machine fails to power off. I don't know why I have a -pae boot option at all, i'm running 64-bit. I mean: everything worked fine on 32-bit until I reinstalled 64-bit. Also I can't seem to boot any -pae kernels under 64-bit. BTW: installing a new kernel probably causes GDM to start X with a stock driver, since the nvidia kernel driver only exists for the previous kernel version. BTW^2: I did a net upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10. I got flashing VTs then and after the last kernel update.
