Forgot to add above: 160-200M compiz memory usage may not be significant on most laptops with 2G-4G RAM but if you are starved on memory i.e running some other critical apps etc this may be the case. CPU usage with some settings adjustments via compiz settings is ok (0.3%) -- You received this

It appears to do with either the Tooltip feature or interaction of gnome-panel(via flashback) with Unity app-menu. In my 12.04 LTS with gnome fallback the tooltip text appears properly and gnome-panel is very quiet. So the issue must be with tooltip feature simply or some other changes. Anyway
