[Bug 1908921] Re: No system tray detected by hp-systray

2020-12-30 Thread LaunchpadUser
This bug ("No system tray detected on this system") also occured years
ago and a workaround was to change ~/hplip-systray.desktop to increase
the "sleep" time:

Exec=sh -c "sleep 60; exec hp-systray"

but this does not work anymore after the latest Ubuntu update.

So, after 3 months of UBuntu 20.04 updates, I tried installing Rygel

computer almost freezes. EVerything in extreme slow motion. I managed to
open the process overview:

Yes, I enabled file sharing. DOn't know about "journalctl". I also don't
know whjat you mean with "session". It just happens - without doing
anyithing or doing anything (that also has nothing to do with files or
network.

[Bug 1870926] [NEW] rygel / mx-extract freezes Ubuntu 20.04

2020-04-05 Thread LaunchpadUser
Public bug reported:

Hi, I installed Ubuntu 20.04 (Beta) on a new partition. At first,
everything worked okay. Then I did my standard scripts after a fresh
install like creating users, installing apps (like sambe, ...) etc.
Then, after a while the whole desktops freezes. But the computer disc
LED is on, so I do not reset the "crashed" thing. I notice that every
once in a while (every few minutes) the computer proceeds for a split
second. After many many minutes it is back to "normal" just to "freeze"
again after a few seconds/minutes.

I managed to open a terminal to identify the process: it is "mx-
extract". This is a process of the package "rygel" which is something
like UPNP Server. I wonder if this process is somehow scanning my whole
2 TB data to somehow look for files to UPnP to the net???

Anyway: i had to uninstell rygel

   sudo apt remove rygel

to get this problem "solved" (... worked around).

This is a major bug in Ubuntu 20.04 (Beta) that "freezes" the whole
computer!

Thios bug is not a duplicate of bug #1610756. In my case, the
problematic package was "minetest" (game). After uninstalling this

2016-08-28 Thread LaunchpadUser
Just for info: as my dist upgrade from 14.04.05 to 16.04.01 didn't work
("2016-08-28 03:49:44,202 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Fehler:
Unterbrechungen durch pkgProblemResolver::Resolve hervorgerufen; dies
könnte durch zurückgehaltene Pakete verursacht worden sein.'") i tried
lots of things without success. Then I found this bug thread but it
didn't help me either. But it inspired me to check "installed
(upgradable)" packages with synaptic which showed one package that was
not in "main": minetest! After I deinstalled minetest, finally do-
release-upgrade continued without the pkgProblemResolver::Resolve error!

This bug I described is for years in Ubuntu - with 6 different computers

[Bug 1465377] [NEW] Change login while other user is logged in: sometimes crashes/freezes/hangs

2015-06-15 Thread LaunchpadUser
Public bug reported:

When trying to login with a user account while another user is already
logged in, Ubuntu sometimes crashes/hanges/freezes!

This bug exists for many years, so for many Ubuntu versions - even in
the latest LTS versions with fresh standard installation (Unity), 64
Bit. During the years of this bug, I had different computers (hardware)
with different graphics cards (nVidia, AMD) different Ubuntus (32 Bit,
64 Bit, LTS, non-LTS). This bug bugs us for so many years because we
have two computers (exchanged every couple of years with fresh Ubuntu
installations) that each has multiple login accounts (for all family
members). Every once in a while one user wants to login while another is
already logged in. The login screen allowws to login while another user
is logged in, so this should basically work. Other scenario is, the the
logged in user simple loggs in to another user via the system menu (top
right).

The results are miscellanious: sometimes it works, sometimes, the
graphics get distorted, sometimes, the screen just turns black
(sometimes with a white cursopr line blinking), sometimes it freezes,
sometimes it crashes. All in all: it's very unstable and buggy.

[Bug 1194841] Re: Firefox 22 uses stale manual proxy settings when configured to use system proxy settings, and system proxy settings are set to None

2013-06-29 Thread LaunchpadUser
Perhaps this bug also affects my problem: after upgraded to Firefox 22
(through the standard Ubuntu update info dialog), my auto proxy config
whitelist.pac file is simply ignored! This is highly critical as my
children are now able to browse to any website on the internet!
Thankfully, I noticed this today as I just migrated one user account
from OPera to Firefox.

The only workaround for me is to not use Firefox for the kids. :-(

[Bug 1039045] Re: Wine windows can't go fullscreen

2013-06-20 Thread LaunchpadUser
Okay, some important information: I installed the very same game exactly
the same way on another computer that has the same Ubunut 12.04 64 Bit
installation with same Unity desktop and same WIne 1.6-rc2 installation.
Main difference the second computer has integrated AMD graphics - and on
this second computer, fullscreen works!!!

So, I guess it's some kind of video problem for nVidia graphics?

2013-06-20 Thread LaunchpadUser
... and another progress: yes, suddenly worked many games not in
fullscreen anymore. But I got it back working by changing the the
winecfg: no virtual screen, do not allow window manager to
decorate/control windows. With this setting, I finally git Giana Sisters
running fullscreen with wine 1.6-rc2. :-)

[Bug 1039045] Re: Wine windows can't go fullscreen

2013-06-17 Thread LaunchpadUser
The compiz workaround doesn't work for me. Just a few weeks ago,
fullscreen worked in my wine games. But since the latest Ubuntu / WIne
1.5 updates it's broken. Also already tried to update to Wine 1.6: same
result.

[Bug 988369] [NEW] Disk error when system time is in past

2012-04-25 Thread LaunchpadUser
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

The cause for an error

Errors while checking disk drive for /MyPartition

can also be an earlier system time! It took a long time to find this
out: when booting the kernel with noplymouth and without quiet splash,
I found the reason for the disk errors:

Der Zeitpunkt des letzten Schreibens von SuperBlock (Wed Apr 25
13:27:46 2012, jetzt: Mon Apr 23 09:46:10 2012) liegt in der Zukunft.

which is something like superblock last write time is in the future.
See Bug #268808 for a similar description.

As the normal Ubuntu boot screen just shows a message disk error, and
all the fixing like fsck doesn't help, it would be much clearer to have
a message like system time before max file system time! (Check system
time in BIOS!).

[Bug 769911] Re: System freeze after login in 11.04

2011-04-29 Thread LaunchpadUser
I have the same effect, but never had problems with former Ubuntu
editions like 10.10 or 10.04. As soon as I log in, the mouse pointer
changes to working (circle spins) for about 5 to 10 seconds and then
everything freezes! Rebooted a dozen times and always the same effect. I
can log in with Ubuntu (Abgesicherter Modus) (safe mode) but then
there is no window manager, i.e. all windows don't have a frame to
change the window size/position/close/etc.

[Bug 575790] Re: Errors repairing broken packages sun-java6-jre, sun-java6-bin, and sun-java6-plugin (while replacing java6-jre 6.17 with 6.20)

2010-05-18 Thread launchpaduser
[SOLVED]
When I first tried to uninstall or reinstall the sun-java6 packages nothing
seemed to work to fix the Broken Package problem.

After uninstalling by purging sun-java6 packages where possible and
removing them when not possible to purge, then reinstalling the sun-
java6-jre from the command line. The broken packages being reported in
the Adept Manager were finally fixed. I swear to you that I tried this a
million times and for whatever reason it finally worked today.

Here is the output from the reinstall after purging:

...I realize I need to fix the MIME types so they can be recognized by this

The main thing is that this bug was solved in my case by:
Uninstalling or purging or removing the java6 packages a bazillion times until
uninstalling it somehow finally works, then reinstall the java6-jre as listed
above.

Thanks for being patient with my lack of experience with Linux.
I hope that this bug report can serve to help some one else with there broken
