Dear Mr. Penalver,
This bug was fixed a long time ago, so long ago that I had forgotten all
about it.
You may cancel the bug no.
Thank you.

A few weeks before the release of 11.04, there was evidently an update which
caused at least part of the problem to cease. I still saw the 10.04
background on the login screen (which switched immediately to the 10.10
background once I had logged in), but the udev message no longer appeared.

It's disappointing that this 'bug' hasn't been corrected in 'Natty' (at
least as yet). I certainly hope that someone can introduce a fix for the
anomaly. Does anyone know WHY it occurs?
It appears to be more of an annoyance than a real problem. At least so
far I have not seen it affecting

The Karmic upgrade fixed the 'bug.' This was a strange one - and I am
quite surprised that it was never addressed in Jaunty. But, in any
case, it has now been corrected and I can burn DVDs as well as CDs with

Let me try to clarify this: I install 'Karmic' and everything works
fine. At the end of the day of installation, I turn off both my computer
and my wireless router. The next day, when I turn on the computer and
the router (with the workaround not applied) Firefox will not connect to
most web sites
Dear Alexander,
I can reproduce the problem by reversing the workaround. We turn off our
wireless (Verizon DSL) router, an ActionTec GT704WG, at night when we go
to bed. We also turn off our computers.

Dear Joe,
I could not understand why no one else complained of this problem; I
thought, how could I be the only one? And the same problem affected
both my and my wife's computers (identical models, however).
So while I'm sorry you've had the problem, I am glad that evidently I am

Dear Mr. Kluyver,
First let me apologize if I offended anyone. I am not familiar with the
ways of Ubuntu Bug Groups and, frankly, I'm a bit desperate as both my
wife and I depend to a great deal on our computers (as I'm sure do most
people here).
In any event, I did try both Epiphany and
I just tried using an HP dvd640 external USB CD/DVD burner. I had the
exact same results as with the CompUSA burner described above.
Using either of these burners:
(1) I can play and/or copy a CD
(2) I can burn to a blank CD
(3) I can play and/or copy a DVD
(4) But I CANNOT burn to a blank
