2021-01-19 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
I ran several further tests on the same ISO as in the original report.

This time on a different machine but also with UEFI+secure boot mode.

1. Installing from the"Install Kubuntu " button - fails when selecting WiFi
network
2. rebooting and selecting "Try Kubuntu" and then installing from the desktop
icon - again fails
3. rebooting and selecting "Try Kubuntu" and the selecting the WiFi connection
BEFORE installing from the desktop icon - success.

What hardware are you running? Also noticed that you have no upgrade log

[Bug 1875717] Re: Opening file from Samba share results in Document in Use

2020-12-25 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
@wxl Walter,

While testing Ubuntu 21.04 on the RASP PI4 I decided to install the Lubuntu
desktop and then tried PCManFM-QT and then the opening of the Samba share files
worked fine with no error messages.
I then played around with a few PC boxes and got the same results after
installing the Lubuntu desktop on the Ubuntu build.

Ref your comments in #20 re file locks I agree - but in this case I am running
a private LAN with no other users so the locked file is an incorrect message
i.e these files are not in use by anyone - so either LibreOffice or PCManFM-QT
are sending the wrong message to each other.. will do some further testing and
comparisons with other file managers -

2020-12-17 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson

Ran some tests again today.

1.Connected to the Samba share manually and no problem mounting etc.
Opened the share directly from LibreOffice Writer and the file came up
as "read only" but this time no dialog box.

2. Proceeded onto your second suggestion - and got the same result -
file opened in "read only " mode and no dialog box. Of interest is that
if the share is mounted by PCManFM-Qt or thunar the file opens with the
dialog box as in the original report.

3. Did not test thunar. :)

[Bug 1875717] Re: Opening file from Samba share results in Document in Use

2020-12-14 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
As a follow up I tested another machine running Xubuntu Hirsute and again
received the "Document in use" error .
My test results are here:

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/419/builds/224141/testcases/1300/results/

I then tested Ubuntu Budgie and was unable to reproduce the error.
Also tested Kubuntu Groovy 20.10 and no error opening Samba files.

So far this has then only occurred on Lubuntu and Xubuntu.

Again I will reiterate that this only occurs with LibreOffice documents
on the Samba share - all other applications used to open file i,e
featherpad, mousepad open as normal and use the same password to access
the share.

[Bug 1875717] Re: Opening file from Samba share results in Document in Use

This occurred while testing Xubuntu Hirsute daily
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/20201214/hirsute-desktop-
amd64.iso

I used thunar the default file manager to open a file on a Samba share
in Libre Office writer.

Document in Use" window appears with text:

Document file 'xxx.odt' is locked for editing by:

   Unknown User

Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing.

   Open Read-Only Open Copy Cancel

Attached is the syslog file - see entries for 7:09 and 7:20

2020-12-13 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
@Walter (wxl)

Sorry for the confusion - yes originally I used pcmanfm-qt as at that
time the bug occurred only in Lubuntu - in all other flavors I have used
their default file managers.

The bug was also present in Xubuntu Hirsute daily build 20201212.

I was unable to reproduce the bug in Ubuntu Hirsute and Ubuntu Mate Hirsute.
I intend to test Kubuntu and Ubuntu Budgie today.

In order to reproduce the crash this is the proceedure you need to use -

1. Open in this order - calc, draw, impress (do not select a template at this
time, proceed and select math and then writer from the menu.
2. Now select the vivid template (which should be on the desktop -
3. the crash occurs

I have not been able to reproduce thi unless apps opened in this order.

Also I tested as per your instructions in #18 - this crash did not
occur.

[Bug 1905322] Re: LibreOffice crashes under load.

2020-11-28 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
I did some further testing on the same machine in comment #10 -

I think the error is not because of the "load" but somehow related to
the template selection in Impress - I noticed that when I selected the
apps one by one after Impress opened with the "template selection"
dialog if I did nothing and continued on to open "Math" and "Writer"
they did not appear in the panel bar .I then (as in the video comment
#7" selected a templete (vivid) and received the crash - if I selected a
template other than "vivid" then there was no crash.

Also tested but this time opened a template when "Impress" started -
then no errors, no crash.

Lastly I changed the Impress "select a Template dialog box - Show this
dialog at startup " button and reran the tests and all worked normally.

[Bug 1905322] Re: LibreOffice crashes under load.

2020-11-28 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
I can confirm this bug - testing Lubuntu Hirsute daily 27.11.2020 on the
QA site

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20201127/hirsute-desktop-
amd64.iso

Machine used Acer [Aspire] E3-111-P60S (Pent.N3530, 4GB)

Opened all LibreOffice apps one by one and selected Impress templete
"Vivid" as in the video posted in comment # 7 and received the same
results as KGIII.

[Bug 1903312] Re: Ubiquity not selecting correct timezone when connected to Internet

2020-11-23 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
Further to my comment number 4

I also tested the following machine with an ethernet connection:

Lenovo X230i i3-3120M,4GB,Intel HD graphics,WiFi,Ethernet,Bluetooth,320GB hd
Testcase:UEFI+secure boot,no encryption,full disk,Internet with ethernet
connection

Again the installer selected New York as the location but allowed me to
download updates during the install (which I declined to do) - on reboot
Iceland server was also the download server in Software & Updates

Attached is the syslog

Bluetooth Atheros A315-53, 500 GB hd)

The installer selected New York as location - Reykjavik is the correct
location

I should also mention that when installing I could not select "download
updates" even though I just connected the WiFi to the Internet- the installer
reported "no Internet" connection,--however when I restart the machine the WiFi
connection is active and in Software & Updates the server for Iceland is
selected as the download source.

ISO =

On my test I only got as far as the Kubuntu logo after the disk checks

Last entry is "failed to start KDE Global Shortcuts Server"

Should I file a new bug? This seems to me to be another isssue than the

Tested 5 different boxes 2 in virtual machines and 3 bare metal.

I did several installs on some of these machines to test both "Discover"
and the "upgrade-notifier" in all cases were the updates successful.

Machines tested were:

1. InWin BL641 i5-10400 - VirtualBox
2. Dell [ Optiplex] MT 7040 ( i7-6700) - QEMU
3. Dell [Inspiron] 3521, (i3-3217U) - bare metal
4. Mac mini 7,1 (2014) ( DC i5) - bare metal
5. Acer [Aspire] E3-111-P60S - bare metal

Tests were run in BIOS,UEFI and UEFI + secure boot modes.

Lenovo M72e i3-2120T,Testcase:UEFI+secure boot

Ran "apply full upgrades" (enter password and nothing happens and no
error message) ran Discover and upgrade succeeds

I think the earlier 2 tests of this ISO showed no update error was
because they were so close to the release time that no updates were
available.

[Bug 1904866] [NEW] Software updater fails to update with errors

2020-11-19 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
Public bug reported:

After installation of Xubuntu Hirsute Daily ISO 19.11.2020 the systems
attempts to update software with the message dialog box - Updated
software has been issued since Ubuntu 21.04 was issued. Do you want to
install it now?

Selecting install now results in the dialog box "Software updater" with
no further info.

After a short time (15sec) the a new dialog box opens with the message "
System program problem detected ...do you want to report it?

The result is that the software updates are not installed.

I have also tested this on
Ubuntu Desktop Hirsute daily 19.11.2020
Ubuntu Budgie Hirsute daily 18.11.2020 with the same results.

I think this is same issue in an earlier bug report # 1904269 which was
originally filed by me against plasma--discover but on second thought
should have been lubuntu-upgrade package as far as I can determine.

2020-11-18 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
That is correct Walter..initially I only saw this on Lubuntu as I had at
that point not tested the other flavors..actually that is the main
reason I looked at them as well. After seeing that also on Budgie I
expected I would need to refile but was not sure what package would be
appropriate.

Also not 100% sure this is still the case with Lubuntu as the last 2
days no updates were available after installing the latest ISO's. Will
test this further in the A.M.

[Bug 1904266] Re: calamares data entry; cursor jumps to end of field making editing difficult

I can confirm that this occurred on 2 boxes that I tested on Lubuntu

I noted that if I erased the host name suggested by Calamares then I
could enter my preferred hos tanem as usual. This only occurred if I
tried to add a prefix to the host name without stroking it completely
out first - hope this understandable explanation.

[Bug 1904269] [NEW] Apply full upgrade - fails with no error message

2020-11-14 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
Public bug reported:

After installation and reboot of Hirsute Lubuntu daily ISO 13.11.2020
the apply full upgrade windows appears - after entering the password
nothing occurs.

I then ran "Discover" which shows 12 updates available - but will not update
again no errors.
I have attempted this on 3 boxes - all same results.

I also noted that if I change my "software source" from the mail Ubuntu
server to my local server (in this case Iceland) and then run "Discover"
there are then no updates available.

Not sure if this is a bug in the updater or a problem with the "main"
software server.
