Sorry let me correct. I still need to validate with the -proposed

[Bug 1615835] [NEW] CVE-2016-5696

2016-08-22 Thread Leonardo Borda
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Description
net/ipv4/tcp_input.c in the Linux kernel before 4.7 does not properly
determine the rate of challenge ACK segments, which makes it easier for
man-in-the-middle attackers to hijack TCP sessions via a blind in-window
attack.

Ubuntu-Description
Yue Cao et al discovered a flaw in the TCP implementation's handling
of challenge acks in the Linux kernel. A remote attacker could use
this to cause a denial of service (reset connection) or inject
content into an TCP stream.

[Bug 1485139] Re: MAAS should let you specify which interfaces you want to bind tftp on.

2015-08-18 Thread Leonardo Borda
Use case:
One of the use cases is when you would like to run two TFTP servers on a single
machine. We would like both to bind to different IP addresses. The reasoning in
doing this is when MAAS isn't able to do all the bare-metal provisioning (re:
other provisioning environments in the mix). In this scenario there's is a boot
stage that classifies what type of baremetal node is loading and then
chainloads to the appropriate service.

[Bug 1485139] [NEW] MAAS should let you specify which interfaces you want to bind tftp on.

2015-08-14 Thread Leonardo Borda
Public bug reported:

I need MaaS to ONLY bind to the IP address I tell it, preferably from
the config. Right now, I get this:

```
tcpUNCONN 0  0  127.0.0.1:69*:*
 users:((twistd,11886,13))
tcpUNCONN 0  0  192.168.122.1:69*:*
 users:((twistd,11886,11))
tcpUNCONN 0  0192.168.154.132:69*:*
 users:((twistd,11886,10))
tcpUNCONN 0  0 192.168.80.132:69*:*
 users:((twistd,11886,6))
tcpUNCONN 0  0::1:69   :::*
 users:((twistd,11886,5))
```
But I need it to ONLY bind to 192.168.122.1:69. Looking through
`/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/provisioningserver/config.py`, it doesn't
look like there's a config option for this. I'm hoping there's some other work
around. Environment variable, maybe?

Thanks for the help.

[Bug 833994] Re: debian-installer does not support https when using with preseed files

2014-01-16 Thread Leonardo Borda
Hi Guys,

An encrypted tunnel would at least provide some security level to the
use case. I have seen more and more people requesting such kind of
feature on Ubuntu deployments. Now with MAAS handling the orchestration
I believe it's just about time.

Is it possible to have someone ( more knowledgeable than me ) working on
a proposal patch ?

Thank you for the great work/discussion btw!

@brian-murray

After four tries, i've got the empty vpn submenu, but after about 20
seconds, the vpn syscon entry appears.

If this is the suggested behaviour, it seems to work.

I can also confirm that blacklisting usb-storage does not prevent it from being

This also happens in 12.04.2 LTS.

[Bug 1167366] [NEW] Precise/Raring does not detect proper device (/dev/mapper/isw_something_Volume0p1) during preseed install

2013-04-10 Thread Leonardo Borda
Public bug reported:

1. Description of the problem:
When performing a preseed install, on Dell machines using the Intel Matrix RAID
controller (BIOS/FW Raid - Intel Corporation Patsburg SATA RAID Controller) the
installer fails to find the proper device and prompts where to install grub.
The installer will just show /dev/mapper. If you do install to just
/dev/mapper it will fail. Instead I have to tell the installer to point to
/dev/mapper/isw_something_Volume0.

IMPORTANT: debug files are attached to this bug

2. Ubuntu release, software version, Release Number and Architecture of the
selected components.
Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS AMD64 AND Ubuntu Raring

3. How reproducible is the problem?
Always using the reported Intel Matrix RAID controller (BIOS/FW Raid).

4. Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download ubuntu 12.04.2 alternate cd or Raring:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ubuntu-12.04.2-alternate-amd64.iso

2. Use a preseed file template for automatic installation

3. Change the kernel boot options to your preseed file as below:
flags=all-x DEBCONF_DEBUG=5 auto=true priority=critical
url=http://webserver/server.seed vga=788 initrd=/install/initrd.gz quiet --

 a. Actual Results:
When you get to the end of the installation, it will ask
where to install grub to. The installer will just show
“/dev/mapper”. *Do not install to just /dev/mapper or else it will
fail. Instead, tell the installer to point to
/dev/mapper/isw_something_Volume0”. * From here, grub should
install to the correct location and the system should boot.

 b. Expected Results:
Install the system on the proper boot partition without being prompted by
debian-installer.

5. Known Workaround:
Install the system manually making sure you select the right device. ie:
/dev/mapper/isw__Volume0p1

[Bug 1153781] [NEW] Can not run .exe .com and .bat from NTFS formated USB flash drive

2013-03-11 Thread Leonardo Borda
Public bug reported:

1. Description of the problem:
Currently NTFS formated USB flash drives do not have the exec bit for .exe,
.com, and .bat.
Using vfat we do have this feature thanks to 'showexec' although it's not an
option since usb sticks are getting bigger and bigger therefor the use of NTFS
makes more sense for some users.

The use case is necessary when we have applications that are multi
platform.

PS: There is already an on-going discussion for having the 'showexec' also
added to NTFS.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28075

2. Ubuntu release, software version, Release Number and Architecture of the
selected components.
Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

3. How reproducible is the problem?
Always. Format a usb key with NTFS and copy some .exe files. Insert it to the
usb port and let Nautilus open it.
Files won't have the +x bit enabled.

drwxr-x---+ 4 root   root   4096 Mar 11 16:11 ..
-rw---  1 user1 user1   29 Mar  8 14:20 aaa.exe

4. Workaround
You can umout and mount manually with the following command. But it defeats the
purpose of having proper permissions from the start.

sudo mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /media/lborda/

[Bug 1115710] Re: Mellanox mlx4_en network driver is not automatically loaded

Hi Guys,

According to the user manual described by smoser:

By default, the mlx4_en (Ethernet) driver is not loaded. To change this, edit
the file /etc/

# Load MLX4_EN module
MLX4_EN_LOAD=yes

[Bug 1027086] Re: incorrect schema setting used for authentication-methods in vino server

2013-01-07 Thread Leonardo Borda
Hi Seb128, Ritesh

The workaround does work however imo the fix should be included in the
Ubuntu packages. We have thousands of machines affected by this issue
and since 12.04 is the LTS version customers are migrating from 10.04.
They are all being affected by that issue.

Could you guys check with upstream what's the best for having this
fixed?

[Bug 1068199] [NEW] please add support for MAP_HUGETLB in eglibc for Lucid

2012-10-18 Thread Leonardo Borda
Public bug reported:

it looks like eglibc on 10.04 does not have MAP_HUGETLB headers or flags
activated [1].

According to hugetlbpage.txt [2] they state that if the application is making
use of only (shmget, shmat) calls you don't really
need a virtual filesystem. This behaviout *DOES NOT* happen on 10.04 using the
released hugepages 10.04 packages but it DOES WORK when using precise packages.

Here are some steps to reproduce the issue.

1. Configure hugepages with filesystem support.
2. Test and validate that it works with 10.04 packages.
3. Umount the virtual filesystem
sudo umount /mnt/hugetlbfs
4. run:
LD_PRELOAD=libhugetlbfs.so HUGETLB_MORECORE=yes ls /boot
You will get the following error message:
libhugetlbfs: WARNING: Hugepage size 2097152 unavailable
abi-2.6.32-43-server grub lost+found System.map-2.6.32-43-server
vmlinuz-2.6.32-43-server

5. Download hugepages packages from:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libhugetlbfs/2.11-0ubuntu1/+build/2263743
and install them.

6. Try again. It should work without having to configure a virtual
filesystem.

2012-07-30 Thread Leonardo Borda
workaroud: ssh -X server virt-manager --no-fork

now the question is why does it happen?

I seemed to have reproduced the bug when I deleted ~/.dbus but I am not
sure.

I can confirm that it does not allow one to set authentication-methods.

You can brute force by running the following:

gsettings set org.gnome.Vino authentication-methods ['vnc']

[Bug 1026325] [NEW] [Precise] Unity-greeter using 45% of memory upon boot and it may go up to a 100% on certain conditions

2012-07-18 Thread Leonardo Borda
Public bug reported:

I notice this behaviour when a precise install has more than 25K users
in /etc/passwd. Also all users are listed in the login screen turning
impossible to login as the desired user.

This is probably an issue if it's using ldap although I cannot confirm
it.

This kind of setup (25K users in passwd) is sometimes used in
universities and other institutions. It's not something I'd recommend
but it works on previous versions that not make use of the lightdm
display manager.

Workaround: disable user listing in lightdm. I'd prefer have this
feature disabled by default so it does not cause issues for enterprise
users.

[Bug 941673] Re: performance of accounts-daemon is very poor

2012-06-11 Thread Leonardo Borda
Hi Guys,

As a workaround for the time being one could do the following (tested on
12.04):

Remove accountsservice
sudo apt-get remove accountsservice

Edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and add the following line :
greeter-hide-users=true

Then restart lightdm or reboot the machine:
sudo service lightdm restart

Can we also have this for natty? I believe there isn't much to change in the

I would be interested in having this on Natty since the issue we're
experiencing is on Natty and it's the only way of catching the error with an
automount issue.

2012-03-09 Thread Leonardo Borda
Hi Chris,

I left a test case running since yesterday and so far it looks promising no
segfaults at all.
I'll get back to you by the end of the day.
Tks

[Bug 924002] Re: build system strips binaries, so no debug symbol packages available

2012-02-21 Thread Leonardo Borda
@Adam Stokes,

I've just build dbg packages using the provided patch and it does generate
*some* of the debug packages although the file automount.so is not generated,
which in my case is the target one that I am trying to get dbg messages from.
In anyway thanks for the patch. Would you be able to take a look at why
automount.so is not being generated?

Here is the output of sudo dpkg --contents
autofs5-dbg_5.0.4-3.1ubuntu5.1_amd64.deb

http://pastebin.com/9WakFFi2

@Chris,

Could you please confirm that automount.so is also created? In my tests
with DONTSTRIP=1 locally on my box I noticed that automount.so debug
symbols was not being created while the others were.

  Overview:

  Bonding + bridge does not work when bonding mode is set to active-backup
  and arp monitoring is enabled. (bond_arp_ip_target and
  bond_arp_interval)

  Reproducible: 100%

  1. Install ifenslave
  $ sudo apt-get install ethtool

  2. Install bridge utils
- $ sudo apt-get install bridge-utils
+ $ sudo apt-get install bridge-utils vlan

  3. Use the following /etc/network/interfaces sample.
  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback

  auto bond0
  iface bond0 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- bond-slaves none
- bond-mode active-backup
- bond_arp_ip_target 10.153.107.1
- bond_arp_interval 100
-
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ bond-slaves none
+ bond-mode active-backup
+ bond_arp_ip_target 10.153.107.1
+ bond_arp_interval 100

  auto eth0
  allow-bond0 eth0
  iface eth0 inet manual
- bond-master bond0
+ bond-master bond0

  auto eth1
  allow-bond0 eth1
  iface eth1 inet manual
- bond-master bond0
+ bond-master bond0

  auto bond0.100
  iface bond0.100 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- vlan-raw-device bond0
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ vlan-raw-device bond0

  auto bond0.200
  iface bond0.200 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- vlan-raw-device bond0
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ vlan-raw-device bond0

  auto br0
  iface br0 inet static
- address 10.153.107.110
- netmask 255.255.255.0
- gateway 10.153.107.1
- bridge_ports bond0
- bridge_stp off
- bridge_fd 0
- bridge_maxwait 0
+ address 10.153.107.110
+ netmask 255.255.255.0
+ gateway 10.153.107.1
+ bridge_ports bond0
+ bridge_stp off
+ bridge_fd 0
+ bridge_maxwait 0

  auto br0-100
  iface br0-100 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- bridge_ports bond0.100
- bridge_stp off
- bridge_fd 0
- bridge_maxwait 0
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ bridge_ports bond0.100
+ bridge_stp off
+ bridge_fd 0
+ bridge_maxwait 0

  auto br0-200
  iface br0-200 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- bridge_ports bond0.200
- bridge_stp off
- bridge_fd 0
- bridge_maxwait 0
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ bridge_ports bond0.200
+ bridge_stp off
+ bridge_fd 0
+ bridge_maxwait 0

  Reboot the server. You won't be able to ping the br0 interface anymore.

  Workaround:

  Disable bond_arp_ip_target and bond_arp_interval and use MII monitoring.
  As follow below:

  auto lo
  iface lo inet loopback

  auto bond0
  iface bond0 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- bond-slaves none
- bond-mode active-backup
- bond_arp_ip_target 10.153.107.1
- bond_arp_interval 100
-
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ bond-slaves none
+ bond-mode active-backup
+ bond_arp_ip_target 10.153.107.1
+ bond_arp_interval 100

  auto eth0
  allow-bond0 eth0
  iface eth0 inet manual
- bond-master bond0
+ bond-master bond0

  auto eth1
  allow-bond0 eth1
  iface eth1 inet manual
- bond-master bond0
+ bond-master bond0

  auto bond0.100
  iface bond0.100 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- vlan-raw-device bond0
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ vlan-raw-device bond0

  auto bond0.200
  iface bond0.200 inet manual
- post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
- pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
- vlan-raw-device bond0
+ post-up ifconfig $IFACE up
+ pre-down ifconfig $IFACE down
+ vlan-raw-device bond0

  auto br0
  iface br0 inet static
- address 10.153.107.110
- netmask 255.255.255.0
- gateway 10.153.107.1
- bridge_ports bond0
- bridge_stp off

[Bug 884950] Re: Eucalyptus Database hangs

2012-02-07 Thread Leonardo Borda
Workaround is to increase memory java heap size to a higher number.

1. vi /etc/init/eucalyptus.conf
change
from:
[ -n $JVM_MEM ] || JVM_MEM=512m
to:
[ -n $JVM_MEM ] || JVM_MEM=8192m

2. save the file

3. restart eucalyptus-cloud service
sudo service eucalyptus-cloud stop
sudo service eucalyptus-cloud start

PS: Check using ps if the eucalyptus-cloud service is using 8192m. like the
example below
eg. -eucalyptus-clou,1324 -h / -u eucalyptus --pidfile
/var/run/eucalyptus/eucalyptus.pid -l DEBUG -L console-log -Xmx8192m
