Public bug reported:
release: focal
libnss-db: 2.2.3pre1-6build6
We had an event where running makedb on a group file or password file
hanged/did not succeed. Using strace, we found out the temp file already
existed and it was trying in a loop:
openat(AT_FDCWD, "__db.group.db.t",
Quick update, this was still happening with Jammy, and it it still
happening with Noble.
The pattern I identified for 90% chances of hanging on wake up:
- boot or wake up from suspend to RAM
- use the laptop for a short time (short being less than a couple hours)
- suspend to RAM

I've tested using that version of the code for more than 2 months
without issues.
SASL authentication feature has been tested in PLAIN mode and EXTERNAL
with an SSL cert fingerprint. Also, it has been tested with multiple
username/password lengths, including the ones triggering the specific
cases

Hello Matthias,
I've read your comment, and I must add I was having this problem while
simply using the HDMI port on my laptop. So maybe it's some lucky "fix"
in your case ?
I'm not using nvidia drivers anymore since this problem was a real pain
and was never fixed, plus another issue caused
I'm also grateful for the free service provided by Ubuntu here, although
I must object ! The release being LTS or not is irrelevant to this
problem as we are obviously in the support lifecycle of the zesty
release. The release being non-LTS is not an indicator of instability,
or at least it should
Ok, I'm using an external screen but laptop screen is off when screen is
connected.
I removed all nvidia drivers and tools and thus switched to nouveau, the
problem is gone.
So this is most certainly related to nvidia drivers.
** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 (Ubuntu)
You're welcome Jacob :)
See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsdl2/+bug/1677540 even if
it seems less intrusive as what I'm experiencing.
I'm using dual screen, do you too ?

Jacob message is pretty clear, I had no trouble understanding it, no
need to write so many lines just for this, please get over it.
Anyways, back to topic, the problem persists and is probably related to nvidia
driver.
Is there a way we can contribute and analyze/test this problem ?
Thanks
Loïc
Hi, I'm having the same randome freezes using kernel 4.10.0-20.22 (trace
follows).
I'm running Linux without swap space, if that's relevant information.
It mostly happens when I'm listening to music / YT using chromium or
amarok while doing something else. The computer starts heating, venting,
I can confirm this issue, I have the same problem since zesty update.
I cannot use apport-collect to complete information as I'm also affected
by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1627790
So here's too much information !
If you need more please just ask away.

Some additionnal information: tried to change cursor theme from Brise to any
other and problem is still there.
Also changing vsync tearing parameter (or any other in fact) in composer
settings did not help either.

Hi,
In addition to this report, and for the same reason, tiger can't find a
configuration file named config on a 3.x kernel :
/usr/lib/tiger/config: line 360: /config: No such file or directory
This issue can be answered by the same quick fix Ole Wolf suggested, but
there's also a coding typo
I had the same issue with latest aMSN sources (natty)
You can apply this patch, it worked for me ;)

Indeed, it seems brcmsmac will be the driver for the new macbook pro
wireless card BCM4331 from Broadcom. Sadly, the driver's not yet
available nor ready...
You can follow or add comments to these threads on usenet, broadcom is
answering from times to times.
Ah, I forgot to mention you can try and use windows drivers with
ndiswrapper. It works, but you'll have to blacklist ndiswrapper, or your
ubuntu won't boot anymore. And you might have keyboard / mouse issues
sometimes when it's loaded.
So, it's only an unstable geeky hack.
