[Bug 1791913] [NEW] HP EliteBook 840 G5 only able to initialise displays on first docking

2018-09-11 Thread Luke Carrier
Public bug reported:

I'm running a HP EliteBook 840 G5 and HP UlstraSlim Docking Station with
two external DisplayPort displays (both 1080p). Upon docking the machine
for the first time the two external displays come up as expected. Upon
removal the internal display continues to work as expected, but the
external displays never come up.

Dock verified good and working with another machine.

Upon disconnect the following is emitted to the journal:
Sep 11 10:13:01 hlc002155 kernel: [drm:intel_dp_start_link_train [i915]]
*ERROR* failed to enable link training
Sep 11 10:13:02 hlc002155 kernel: [drm:intel_mst_pre_enable_dp [i915]] *ERROR*
failed to allocate vcpi

Upon reconnect the following:

Sep 11 10:13:15 hlc002155 kernel: [drm:intel_wait_ddi_buf_idle [i915]]
*ERROR* Timeout waiting for DDI BUF C idle bit

I found some issues that seem related:
*
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1552040
* https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1777863

The workaround described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1552040/comments/17 didn't seem to work
for me.

[Bug 1756877] Re: Dell XPS 9530 (Nvidia GeForce GT 750M): Intermittent freeze when using nouveau

2018-04-11 Thread Luke Carrier
FYI I'm currently mitigating this using Bumblebee:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Setup_for_14.04_and_later

I've not yet been able to get applications running against the discrete
chip, but since I'm now running with onboard Intel graphics the
stuttering is no longer an issue.

[Bug 1760341] [NEW] Intermittent freeze in display output, XPS 9530 with nouveau

2018-03-31 Thread Luke Carrier
Public bug reported:

Display output intermittently pauses for approximately a second, causing
the system to appear "stuttery". During freezes mouse input doesn't seem
to be registered and keyboard input is repeated, as though keys are
being held down.

Watching the journal via `journalctl -f`, the following message appears
each time the problem occurs:

[Bug 1756877] Re: High visual latency in 18.04 when using nouveau

2018-03-31 Thread Luke Carrier
Looks like this affects me, also using a Dell XPS 15 9530.

I can confirm seeing the following line output each time the UI hangs:

Mar 31 20:06:52 luke-ultrabook kernel: nouveau :02:00.0: bus: MMIO
write of 0002 FAULT at 4188ac [ IBUS ]

I also experience repeat input (as if I were holding down keys on the
keyboard) while this occurs.

[Bug 760344] Re: gvfsd-http not closing tcp connections

2013-12-29 Thread Luke Carrier
This is still a problem for me running Ubuntu 13.10. I've just
discovered it through using Rhythmbox's rb.Loader class to work with Gio
(which in turn calls Gio.file_new_for_uri(), file.load_contents_async()
and file.load_contents_finish()). Please could somebody shed light on
why this issue has been open for so long?

[Bug 322769] Re: it is not possible to write with the current set of plugins

2009-04-12 Thread Luke Carrier
Debug log, generated using "sudo brasero --debug &>
/home/hannah/debug.txt". Ran with sudo to see if this solved it,
thinking maybe the user didn't have permissions to access a specific
library or device. Hope this helps; we've been having the same problem
trying to burn a few AVI's onto a DVD.
