[Bug 2065639] [NEW] Splash screen shows Ubuntu 23.10 instead of 24.04 and forces logout
Public bug reported: We performed a minimal install of Ubuntu Server 24.04, disabled swap. This is a machine with limited resources (8GB SSD, 2GB RAM). Installed ubuntu-desktop-minimal, stopped/disabled/removed gdm3; installed lightdm and rebooted. After reboot we see the maroon X splash asking us to login. However at the bottom right of the screen it says "Ubuntu 23.10", not "Ubuntu 24.04". When we login by entering the password we get a white screen with a sad face icon and the words: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again." Trying again results in the same problems. The above set of install steps works fine using the Ubuntu Server ISO for Ubuntu 22.04.4. [Bug 2065367] [NEW] 24.04 LTS Installation failed on RPI5
Public bug reported: I had RaspiOS Debian 12 bookworm desktop running on my 8GB Raspberry Pi 5. I'm attempting to switch to the RPi version of Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS. I've created an install microSD card with raspi-imager and selected Other OS then Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS. After picking English, Los Angeles, etc., then I get to the point where I input details to name the host and create my user account, click next and get Installation Failed. I click OK, some text flashes by fast, then get a basic sign-in screen but can't sign in. It won't accept the username and password I selected, and ubuntu/ubuntu. I tried a terminal session on tty2 to see if I could check any logs but again, no working username/password. In case it was some sort of download error with raspi-imager, I downloaded the "ubuntu-24.04-preinstalled-desktop-arm64+raspi.img.xz" file and used Rufus to write that to the install media. The microSDXC card is a brand new Samsung 256GB Pro Plus A2 V30. [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in virtual machines (GTK ngl backend)
I was able to get something working on my win 11 i9-13900H discrete RTX2000 laptop. I used: mks.enable3d = "TRUE" mks.enableDX12Renderer = "TRUE" mks.enableDX11Renderer = "FALSE" mks.dx12.vendorID = "0x17AA" and I also had to do: settings->system->dislay->graphics entries for both vmware.exe and vmware-vmx.exe (its in a subdirectory) Both entries specify that vmware must run only on RTX2000 and not the cpu GPU. Still seeing MESA: error: ZINK: failed to choose pdev glx: failed to create drisw screen but that might be known? I just got the bug again (you can see it's not very often) I just sent the debug. xwininfo is not working on that zone top left zone. I can't click on it. I can only click outside this box. I tried again with "lg", and the text show that it's some notification. It's some "old" Skype notification. Stopping Skype do not solve the issue, so I think it's linked with the notification system. This one really affects my productivity. It's not only terminal it's also slack and some other apps. Looking forward to @Daniel's PPA. This also raises a question of testing upstream packages by Ubuntu team, as clearly this wasn't tested in all possible usage cases. [Bug 2058829] [NEW] Extreme low audio when using headphones
Public bug reported: The laptop audio works fine, but when I plug a headphone it seems that there is no audio. If I turn on overamplification it is possible to hear some low volume sound. [Bug 1760325] Re: Unresponsive scrollbars in application categories of Application Dashboard widget
** Description changed: Ubuntu release: Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch), but the problem also occurs in Kubuntu 17.10 if upgraded to Plasma 5.12 through the backports PPA. Package version: plasma-desktop: Installed: 4:5.12.4-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4:5.12.4-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4:5.12.4-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What I expect to happen: Application categories with more applications than will fit on one page naturally get a scrollbar. I expect this scrollbar to turn blue/display some other "hover decoration" when moused over and to respond to clicking and dragging. What happens instead: Nothing. Clicking the scrollbar in (say) my rather large Games category has the same effect as clicking on an empty space in the Application Dashboard widget; i.e., it just exits the widget. Please note: the scrollbar in the All Applications page DOES work; it's only the scrollbars for the regular categories (as specified in a .menu) file that do not. Also, scrolling with the mouse wheel still works, and the scrollbars (while unresponsive to clicking) will move correctly when doing so. I wish I had any logs to provide but I don't know where this would be logged, if anywhere. It still works on my Kubuntu 17.10 install with Plasma 5.10. [Bug 39376]
- Do editors in 2023 still save files like sth.txt~, sth.txt.bak and similars? Yes, they do. Some skip that when working inside git/hg/svn/… folder, some allow to use separate folder, but such files are still fairly frequent. - Would some users prefer not to see those files? Yes. For example myself. - Does KDE allow user to manage which files are hidden, and which are not? No, it doesn't. There is option to show or hide „Hidden files” but no way to influence which file is considered to be „Hidden”. So functionality-wise bug is just as sound and valid, as it was when it was reported. Projects make various priorities, open-source projects even more so (considering people come to work on what they fancy or what they find troublesome). Some bugs are less lucky. But if there is to be any hope, the open issue means the thought of doing sth is not abandoned. [Bug 1970282] Re: Flatpak apps are not properly themed if a accent color other than the default is choosed
For a Flatpak application to follow the system theme in use, the corresponding Flatpak theme needs to be installed. For example, if I use the "Yaru" theme in "Dark mode" with the "Prussian Green" accent color, the "org.gtk.Gtk3theme.Yaru-prussiangreen-dark" needs to be installed. If it is, both system applications and Flatpak applications look consistent. However, only a few themes are available in the Flathub repos. If you search for Yaru themes on Flathub (flatpak search Yaru), you will notice there are alot of variations, but only the packages not presenting a "Version" number correspond to the new 22.04 Yaru theme. As such, only the following Yaru (22.04) themes have a correspondent Flatpak theme: Yaru Yaru-dark Yaru-sage Yaru-bark Yaru-bark-dark Yaru-prussiangreen Yaru-prussiangreen-dark Yaru-olive Yaru-olive-dark Yaru-magenta Yaru-magenta-dark For a consistent look between Flatpak and non-Flatpak applications in Ubuntu 22.04, the missing accent color themes need to be available in Flathub. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970282 Title: Flatpak apps are not properly themed if a accent color other than the default is choosed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1970282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1967702] [NEW] Accessibility features have been disabled, modules like speakup_soft and others are missing
Public bug reported: From very old versions of Kernel for Ubuntu until version 5.13, accessibility features were enabled, allowing blind users to use screen readers in text mode, such as "speakup" via "espeakup" package. In Kernels 5.15 packages for Ubuntu 22.04 beta, such as "linux-image-5.15.0-23-generic", accessibility features are disabled (no justification for such occurrence was listed in the file "changelog.Debian.gz"), with this the espeakup application doesn't work, it depends on the missing speakup_soft module. Missing in the file "/boot/config-5.15.0-23-generic" comparing with the file "/boot/config-5.13.0-39-generic", the line CONFIG_ACCESSIBILITY=y and the following lines are also missing: # # Speakup console speech # CONFIG_SPEAKUP=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_ACNTSA=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_APOLLO=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_AUDPTR=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_BNS=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECTLK=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECEXT=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_LTLK=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_SOFT=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_SPKOUT=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_TXPRT=m CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DUMMY=m # end of Speakup console speech ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: linux-image-5.15.0-23-generic 5.15.0-23.23 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-23.23-generic 5.15.27 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu80 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: tiago 1259 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: tiago 1259 F...m pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: MATE Date: Sun Apr 3 22:05:39 2022 InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-04-03 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Beta amd64 (20220330) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0c45:671e Microdia Integrated_Webcam_HD Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc.
