I have a similar problem since I upgraded my laptop to ubuntu 10.10.
I couldn't identify the reason of the crashes, because they appear suddenly and
unexpectedly every time. It happens usually, if I open a new tab or a new site
in firefox, but I'm not sure, that firefox is the problem.
