[Bug 1768565] Re: pdfsam crashes at launch on Bionic Beaver 18.04 LTS
I'm sorry but say that the bug is fixed if you change the default version of java is misleading. [Bug 1750645] [NEW] 18.04 Server installation missing partition options
Public bug reported: Boot image: 20180220 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-live/ I tried to install the ubuntu-server daily live today and when presented with the partition program I noticed that almost all the interesting features are gone! There is no way to select encryption and lvm to start with. It doesn't scan the disks, basically if you have already any partition on any disk it will not show you anything. Just an option to create a new partition. This is really BAD! I've a machine with 3 HDs on which I would like to: - full encrypt all of them! - be able to use lvm to have swap and any number of partition on any disk - use ext 2 for /boot (which is not encrypted) At least I was able to configure the keyboard correct this time. By the way, the new install interface is terrible! [Bug 1743447] Re: Can't unlock an encrypted disk when installting new ubuntu
I tried the daily desktop 18.04 2018-02-19 yesterday and it does work now. I am able to unlock the encrypted disk and do a normal installation ... [Bug 1743447] [NEW] Can't unlock an encrypted disk when installting new ubuntu
Public bug reported: I can't unlock an encrypted disk neither using app disks or sudo cryptsetup luksOpen when doing a new ubuntu installation... I tried on Ubuntu daily 18.04 LTS (2018-01-15) and ubuntu 17.10 I'm trying to do a new installation of ubuntu, but I want to use encrypted disks and a dual boot for windows. Basically I can't use the normal installation. To accomplish that I created the encrypted disks, lvm and partitions using ubuntu-server. Since 17.10 and 18.04 both have some kind of bug that when you reboot the system the keyboard defaults to US, I can't enter the password, my keyboard is Swedish with English as language and I use characters that do not exist in the US keyboard. So, I started the ubuntu desktop installation, ran the try mode, select the appropriate keyboard and tried to unlock the partitions. On both cases it just hang without report any error. With app "disks" I can select the cancel button but cryptsetup will hang forever, not even control-c helps. I than try start the normal installation: - with ubuntu 18.04 (daily 2018-01-15), the installation stops after I select the language and press continue... (it just hangs there!) [Bug 1741255] [NEW] Can't select keyboard type during installation
Public bug reported: USE CASE: - Several users around the world have local keyboards that are very different from US keyboards but still would like to use English as the default language, or any other combination of language and keyboard. It is important to permit the keyboard to be changed independent of the language selected! Issue: - the installation process do not allow the user to select a different keyboard. Tested versions: - 18.04 daily (2018-01-01) server - Not working - 17.10 server - Not working Steps to Replicate: - Boot the installation ("pre-installation") - Select English and language and the appropriate keyboard pressing F3 (in my case was Swedish) - Select install new Ubuntu server (The "installation") - select English as language - try to select another keyboard (like Swedish, Brazilian, etc) during the installation process Problem: there is no way to do it in the installation! If i try to go back in the menu to set the keyboard, it will not allow me to change it! Consequences: - Keyboard is wrongly set - In case a user uses disk encryption, (s)he may not be able to enter the password after reboot making the all installation useless. - Bug #174101 may be a consequence of this problem - in this scenario it is even worse since it will not work even if the combination of language and keyboard suppose to be correct (In case it is something else than English/US) ** Affects: install-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1741255 Title: Can't select keyboard type during installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/install-package/+bug/1741255/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1741012] [NEW] Problem with all new installations of ubuntu when keyboard is not US and using full encrypted disk(s)
Public bug reported: Trying to accomplish: - new Ubuntu installation (I've tried with 17.10, daily 18.04 [latest tried was 2018-01-01], server and desktop) - using English and a Swedish keyboard / or just trying to install it as Swedish (including Swedish keyboard) - using full disk encryption and characters not in the US keyboard Problem: After the installation is completed and the machine is rebooted the user should enter the password for the full disk encryption. The problem is that the keyboard is set to US (there is no way to change it), so it is impossible to enter the password. This is even true when installing it as language Swedish. More problems: - Another issue I encountered in the installation is that it will not allow me to set the keyboard. Example: if I try to install language = English, I can't select a Swedish keyboard (server installation). I try to go back on the menu but it jumps direct to disk partition using a default value (US keyboard). - 18.04 Desktop, the installation doesn't work at all. It doesn't even start ... it just hangs... I run TRY Ubuntu, set the keyboard = Swedish and clicked start installation... No errors reported. The screen still functional and I'm able to start other programs but the installation just hangs ... - 18.04 and 17.10 server installation: I start selecting English and pressing F3 to change keyboard to Swedish. The installation goes on, I'm NOT allowed to change keyboard during the installation (which in my opinion is WRONG), and the installation uses US as the default keyboard. - - 18.04 and 17.10 server installation: I select Swedish as language and keyboard as Swedish, start the installation all goes OK. When the system boots I'm not able to enter the password for the encrypted disks because the keyboard is set to US (even when installing as Swedish for language). I'm not allowed to change keyboard during the installation process as well. USE CASE: - Several users around the world have local keyboards that are very different from US keyboards but still would like to use English as the default language. it is important to permit the keyboard to be changed independent of the language selected! ** Affects: install-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1741012 Title: Problem with all new installations of ubuntu when keyboard is not US and using full encrypted disk(s) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/install-package/+bug/1741012/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

YES! In my case the problem starts after install ati drivers. But the drivers are installed by ubuntu via the hardware drivers option. I did not download and install the drivers via AMD site, I did all of it through the ubuntu repository... I would guess the bug is just wrongly set to gnome-settings but IT DOES EXIST! [Bug 860892] Re: Discrete Graphics not working
Hi, I don't think you should close this bug (problem)! First of all I don't think you have even read the problem, if you read you will know that what Bryce wrote first makes no sense with the problem/bug in question! About installing proprietary driver or not, I don't think this is an issue, In my case I do have an ATI and I think it would be a lot better to use the proprietary driver, if it worked... but it does not and it may be because the second card still enabled. Later he adds: "No, there is no method supported in Ubuntu for switching between the two (nor any near-term plans to support switching)." So, It seems NO ONE will/want to fix this... So the PROBLEM STILL THERE! It is just that no one is planning to do anything about it! The problem is in ALL new notebooks and computers that have a discrete video card and a more advanced video card in it. Ubuntu has no decent way to support this, we may have some work around but they are dirty! And than there are all the related side effects like: - battery consumption (it could be a lot less if I could switch between the two video cards) - problems with video drivers, I can't get the ATI to work! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/860892 Title: Discrete Graphics not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/860892/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The first problem I got was with the keyboard set, I did set the keyboard as Swedish before start the installation but it will start with American English. FYI: The language was set to English. The interesting thing is that I do get this problem almost every time I try to test a future new release... it keeps coming back... Come on guys, you must have people there that uses English as language and some other keyboard layout like Swedish, German, Portuguese, etc. Than I try to continuous the installation but it failed when I try to select Open SSH and Apache Tomcat to be installed... [Bug 868294] [NEW] multiarch - Update broke 64bit dependencies
Public bug reported: After run the latest update applications that did depend on libstdc++.so.6 stop to work complaining that the shared library couldn't be open (no such file or directory). But if I try to instal it it says: libstdc++6 is already the newest version. It seems that the cause is related to multiarch support. First I noticed that flash stop to work and than Android sdk wouldn't work as well saying that the libstdc++.so.6 wasn't a valid 64 bit application (before I did restart the computer, now it says it doesn't exist). When I try to reinstall flash i notice that it would try to install the 32 bits version and that libstdc++.so.6 was one of them... I guess the multiarch is not really tested properly and it is breaking things that were working fine before, like flash and android sdk ... I try to edit the file /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch and remove the foreign-architecture i386 entry but I still will have the same problem... so i enabled the i386 again and ran: sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer Which did install the libstdc++.so.6 i386 and android sdk is working again ... I will have to restart the browser to check about flash... [Bug 860865] [NEW] ATI Proprietary drivers make grub keyboard work as US only
Public bug reported: I've install alpha 2 a few times and every time I install the ATI proprietary drivers using the system center / Hardware / additional drivers and try to boot, grub will be using the keyboard layout as US even if I've some other keyboard layout set. The configuration is correct within linux, once I managed to get the password for the encryption correct, it will start as it should be, with the keyboard layout I've set in the installation. In my case I've set the keyboard = SWEDISH, if I do boot without install the proprietary ATI drivers provided by additional drivers, it works properly. If I install it, IT DOES NOT work as it was configured but it assumes the USA keyboard layout instead, until ubuntu starts. (this is a problem to me and others that use encryption since we may use characters that do not exist in the american keyboard layout). I found out that if I do install the proprietary ATI driver myself, by downloading it from ATi and building it myself, it will not have the same effect and the keyboard layout will work as set. I guess the problem is within the packages provided by the repository and there may be some sets there that are not generic enough ... I can repeat this with older versions of 11.10 (I'd the same problem with ALPHA 1 and ALPHA 3 ...) [Bug 850391] Re: Grub keyboard default to us after update
By the way, there was a problem in Alpha 2 installation which couldn't set a combination of language/keyboard that wasn't expected. Like English language (locale) with a Swedish or German keyboard. This was resolved with Alpha 3 (alpha 1 was working as well). After I did a full update (I did not reinstall the system), the problem got back. I'm not sure if this will still be valid after I do login into the system, since I can't enter the encryption password. I did boot with the alpha 3 DVD and could mount the encrypted disc but I've no idea where to try to look for a fix since /etc/default/keyboard is correctly set. [Bug 850391] [NEW] Grub keyboard default to us after update
Public bug reported: After update 11.10 on the 12/sept, the grub keyboard mapping was changed from Swedish to US. My biggest problem is that i've encrypted discs with charactes that do not exist in the american keyboard and i can not boot the system any more. Please, is there a work around to change grub keyboard maping/layout onthe fly? I do not want to change the language but the keyboard! And this was working 4 days ago... ** Affects: grub (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/850391 Title: Grub keyboard default to us after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/850391/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 740818] Re: Can't set Keyboard layout at installation and later on
Hello, the BUG is back! I did a full update yesterday (12/Sept/2011) and the keyboard got disconfigured and back to american layout. My problem now is that I've the disc encrypted and I use characters that do not exist in the american keyboard so now I can't even login to the system! I will try later with a recover disc but PLEASE can some one put a note in the code saying that there are people with strange language keyboard combinations Thx! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/740818 Title: Can't set Keyboard layout at installation and later on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/740818/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 752159] Re: unity launcher search doesn't find anything
Just to confirm, this can be ease reproduce. Go to dash home, try a search, something like terminal. It will work. than try to click on more applications and select filter and one of the filters, like game. Try to search now... it will not work any more, even if you close the dash and open it again. You will have to logout or restart ubuntu! ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752159 Title: unity launcher search doesn't find anything To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/752159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 752159] Re: unity launcher search doesn't find anything
Very interesting... it stop to work again... just after I entered the last post the search functionality stopped to work. It may be related with the filter. I did click in more apps and than set games as filters. After that I did closed the search and clicked in the dash home again and try to do a search but nothing would show up. I try to set filter ALL but still nothing shows up... so yes it seems there is a bug there... I will try to restart and repeat what I just wrote to see if happens again! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752159 Title: unity launcher search doesn't find anything To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/752159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 752159] Re: unity launcher search doesn't find anything
Unity was working fine this morning but when I started the computer this afternoon it can't find any application that I could find before! I'm not sure how to report this since I did not change anything in the system and it was working fine... I will try to restart ubuntu to see if it starts to work but that is too much Windows to my taste. I'm running 11.10 with all the latest updates... Not even terminal will show up in the search! I've installed a few games and if I try to filter just by games, without enter any text in the search it will show NOTHING! If the restart is the solution I will be very disappointed! I do not want to go back to Windows or windows like experience...

[Bug 843679] [NEW] Dash home under ALL/ANY window
