[Bug 1749283] Re: configured stats_temp_directory does not get created after reboot
I agree - the postgresql-common should not be touched, nor there is a need to create an SRU for it. However, resource-agents should be fixed, and only for Xenial and Bionic. But, I felt it was 'cleaner' to do it in a separate bug, LP: #1762492. So, this bug should be marked "Won'f Fix" for postgresql-common (again, based on what Cristoph said in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=890427#10). For resource-agents part, I'm not sure if it should be completely removed from this bug, or just marked 'Invalid'. That part is actually duplicate of LP: #1762492. Unless you have objections I'll continue resource-agents part there. P.S. You are correct, the postgresql-common patch was never applied here - I just created a debdiff, waiting for upstream patch to be applied, thinking that the proper way to solve this issue was fixing postsgresql- common. So, to make it clear - postgresql-common is not to be fixed (there is nothing to be fixed), and this bug should be abandoned (as Debian did). resource-agents needs to be fixed, and that's being worked on in LP: #1762492. @Christian, I've uploaded test pacakages to this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mariosplivalo/+archive/ubuntu/lp1762492 It looks like resource-agents was erroneously added to this bug - the end effect is the same, but this bug deals with postgres-common issue. [Bug 1826791] [NEW] stress-ng cpu tests run longer than configured timeout
Public bug reported: I am experiencing long test runs on bionic and later series, on a NUMA machines (that is, on machines that have more than one CPU on the motherboard). I discovered this while I was running MAAS stress-ng-cpu tests which started timing out, on NUMA machines, when I changed commissioning series to bionic (this is related bug: LP: #1826789). I was running stress-ng as MAAS runs it, like this: stress-ng --aggressive -a 0 --class cpu,cpu-cache --ignite-cpu -log- brief --metrics-brief --times --tz --verify --timeout 1h Maas actually runs the test for 12 hours, but the issue is visible even with shorter test runs. The above command on xenial, regardless of NUMA/non-NUMA machine, completes within 60 minutes. But on bionic and later series, on NUMA machines, the tests takes up to 70 minutes, and on disco (with kernel 5) it takes cca 88 minutes for the test to complete. On non-NUMA machines (that is, single CPU on the motherboard), the tests complete within 60 minutes, add 20-30 seconds on that, regardless of the series. I was thinking that this might be normal behavior on bionic and later kernels (4.15 and above), but then I installed Centos7 on the test NUMA machine, and upgraded kernel to v5.0, and compiled latest version of stress-ng (same as on disco) - the test completed within 60 minutes, same as on xenial. ** Affects: stress-ng (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I am experiencing long test runs on bionic and later series, on a NUMA machines (that is, on machines that have more than one CPU on the motherboard). Hi, Trent. [Bug 1762492] [NEW] pgsql resource agent should check for stats_temp_directory
Public bug reported: [Impact] * Default postgres installation in Ubuntu (and Debian) configures stats_temp_directory inside /var/run/postgresql. However, this directory is not created after reboot. Usually this directory is created by pg_ctlcluster, which is a pg_ctl wraper called by systemd/upstart. However postgres resource agent is not using pg_ctlcluster when starting postgres, it calls pg_ctl directly, which won't recreate missing directories. This will prevent resource agent to properly start postgres. * This bug is already fixed in upstream: https://github.com/ClusterLabs /resource-agents/pull/1102/ * This SRU cherrypicks the commit from the upstream - the commit checks if configured stats directory exists, and if it does not it tries to create it. ** Affects: resource-agents (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Mario Splivalo (mariosplivalo) Status: New ** Affects: resource-agents (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Mario Splivalo (mariosplivalo) Status: New ** Affects: resource-agents (Ubuntu Artful) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Mario Splivalo (mariosplivalo) Status: New ** Affects: resource-agents (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Mario Splivalo (mariosplivalo) Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762492 Title: pgsql resource agent should check for stats_temp_directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resource-agents/+bug/1762492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In most cases this is not a problem as systemd starts postgres via pg_ctlcluster, a "multiversion/cluster aware pg_ctl wrapper", and pg_ctlcluster will create missing directories before starting postgres. But in cases where systemd is not starting postgres this is a problem. Specifically, when postgres is controlled by pacemaker (using postgres resource agent for pacemaker) it is started using pg_ctl wrapper. pg_ctl won't create missing directories and therefore postgres fails to start. The simplest solution for this issue is to have systemd recreate missing directories via /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/postgresql.conf file. Public bug reported: With the default mysql-server installation on systemd versions of Ubuntu (xenial and above) setting max_connections to more than 214 will not work, due to systemd imposed limits: root@juju-c2777d-default-1:~# grep max_connections /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld_settings_charm.cnf max_connections = 5500 root@juju-c2777d-default-1:~# grep max_connections /var/log/mysql/error.log 2017-10-05T12:41:16.958726Z 0 [Warning] Changed limits: max_connections: 214 (requested 5500) 2017-10-05T12:41:19.198391Z 0 [Warning] Changed limits: max_connections: 214 (requested 5500) root@juju-c2777d-default-1:~# grep open_files /var/log/mysql/error.log 2017-10-05T12:41:11.824199Z 0 [Warning] Changed limits: max_open_files: 1024 (requested 5000) 2017-10-05T12:41:16.958668Z 0 [Warning] Changed limits: max_open_files: 1024 (requested 27500) 2017-10-05T12:41:19.198342Z 0 [Warning] Changed limits: max_open_files: 1024 (requested 27500) As can be seen, mysql tries to increase the open files limit to 27500, but due to systemd imposed limitation it fails to do so, and then it selects maximum possible number of connections, based on open files limit. This was the problem with default setups with pre-systemd installs, but upstart allowed mysqld to change the limit of open files before mysqld drops privileges from root to mysql system user. Even before that, on sysV init, there was a wrapper, mysqld_safe, which run as root, used ulimit to change the open files limit and then started mysqld as mysql user. Would it make sense to ship mysql-server packages with mysql.service unit files so that there is no limit for open files, or so that open files limit is substantially higher than 1024? This was all discussed when Ubuntu 15.10 came out, for mysql-5.6, in bug LP: #1434758, but I am still bringing this up for more recent mysql versions. ** Affects: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721546 Title: max open files limit prevents max_connections over 214 on systemd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1721546/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1366997] Re: Duplicate entry error for primary key following cluster size change
Hello, Ćukasz! I have verified that package which is in trusty-proposed fixes the issue. I merely repeated the test case explained here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/percona-xtradb- cluster-5.5/+bug/1366997/comments/12, but instead of using my personal PPA i used trusty-proposed pocket: 1. I used juju to install a 3 node PXC (Percona Xtradb Cluster): juju deploy cs:trusty/percona-cluster -n3 2. I created the test database and the test table in it: mysql> CREATE DATABASE pktest; mysql> CREATE TABLE pktest.t1 (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, datafield VARCHAR(20)); 3. I created a 'ubuntu' user which is able to connect to all the databases from any of the hosts: mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO ubuntu@'%'; 4. From the separate node I run this: $> for i in {1..20}; do (yes "INSERT INTO t1 (datafield) VALUES ('mario');" | mysql -u ubuntu -h 10.0.0.10 pktest) & done While the INSERTs where running I restarted one of the nodes - the primary key violation occurred instantly. 5. I upgraded my PXC cluster, running this on every node: # echo 'deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-proposed restricted main multiverse universe' >> /etc/apt/sources.list # apt-get update # apt-get dist-upgrade 6. After the cluster was completely upgraded and I confirmed it is running fine I repeated step (4): $> for i in {1..20}; do (yes "INSERT INTO t1 (datafield) VALUES ('mario');" | mysql -u ubuntu -h 10.0.0.10 pktest) & done While INSERTs were running I restarted one of the nodes. This time no error occurred and INSERTs kept on going. >From that I concluded that the package in trusty-proposed fixes the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366997 Title: Duplicate entry error for primary key following cluster size change To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/codership-mysql/+bug/1366997/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1657256] Re: Percona crashes when doing a a 'larger' update
I have removed percona-xtradb-cluster-5.6 from this bug as in Trusty we have percona-xtradb-cluster-5.5, and in xenial (and above) we have percona-xtradb-cluster-5.6. I've created a separate bug for Percona in xenial (and above): #1693765. The reason for separation is to speed up SRU for Trusty as the patch ready (it is attached to this bug) - the customer can resort to using Percona on Trusty when this fix lands. Percona in trusty uses InnoDB 5.5 where in Xenial and above it is Innodb 5.6, with different codebase so the fix for the issue is different. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1657256 Title: Percona crashes when doing a a 'larger' update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/percona-xtradb-cluster-5.5/+bug/1657256/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1631972] Re: Searching messages by arbitrary headers sometimes doesn't work
This is the 'bug' in the upstream, it seems that when Thunderbird is configured NOT to fetch messages from Imap folders by default, adding new headers to search by won't work. One has to unsubscribe and then re- subscribe again to the particular folder (so that TB re-downloads all the headers) for the search to work. [Bug 1631972] [NEW] Searching messages by arbitrary headers sometimes doesn't work
Public bug reported: I have a folder with emails from Launchpad regarding Launchpad bug. All of those emails have, among others, this two headers: X-Launchpad-Bug-Reporter X-Launchpad-Bug-Commenters I added both of those fields as a custom fields inside Thunderbird's 'Customized' headers (in the Search window). I've got over 10k emails in that folder, and all of the emails contain both those headers, and a lot of them contain single letter 'a' as a header content. When I create a search that looks like this: X-Launchpad-Bug-Commenters contains "a" Thunderbird returns almost all emails. But, when I create a search that looks like this: X-Launchpad-Bug-Reporter contains "a" no emails are returned, although there is a lot of emails whose "X -Launchpad-Bug-Reporter" contains an 'a'.
