Unmounting the SD-card is what helps me too for the moment. But on resume all partitions on the SD-card get mounted automatically and nautilus opens windows for each of them. [Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.
The freeze after 30/60 minutes of inactivity might be a different problem, caused by the 'console-tools'-package. I ran into this problem with several multiseat-systems a year ago already. It turned out, that mouse and keyboard were still active, only the monitor wouldn't wake up again. You just have to work blindly - for example you're still able to log out as long as you know the keyboard-shortcuts to do so. Our solution is the following: Edit /etc/console-tools/config and change these two entries: # screen blanking timeout. monitor remains on, but the screen is cleared to # range: 0-60 min (0==never) kernels I've looked at default to 10 minutes. # (see linux/drivers/char/console.c) #BLANK_TIME=30 BLANK_TIME=0 # Powerdown time. The console will go to DPMS Off mode POWERDOWN_TIME # minutes _after_ blanking. [Bug 120085] Re: Various problems running syslogd with -u syslog option
Thanx a lot for your explanations, Graeme! I can confirm this on our server, running dapper-lts. We're experiencing these problems since last Friday, 15.6.2007. The consequences are quite serious. Since we're using an openLDAP-Server on this machine for user-authentification, this bug in /etc/cron.daily/sysklogd disables any login to this machine - neither via ssh nor locally. Communication with postfix (port 25) isn't possible any more either. The only way to get out of this situation is a hardware-reset! After reboot everything works fine - until the next run of /etc/cron.daily/sysklogd. [Bug 67196] Re: mouse pointer disappears after switch to console or resuming from sleep
Having updated the BIOS of my Dell Inspiron 510m to the latest version A11, there's still no possibility to set the video memory. What I noticed though, is the following: The BIOS knows an option 'Video Expansion' which enables/disables the scaling of a lower resolution to a higher, native LCD resolution. The native resolution is 1400x1050 (whence I need tu use the 915resolution- patch). The usplash complains about not being able to set the resolution to 1024x786 nor 800x600 and is running with 640x480 (the splash-screen not being centered very well, if the the scaling is enabled). I disabled this scaling in the BIOS. The boot-splash still runs with 640x480, but is centerd nicely. After login (gnome is running with 1400x1050), when I switch to the tty-consoles (Crtl-Alt-F1) the screen still isn't scaled. Switching back (Crtl-Alt-F7) the mouse-pointer has disappeared. Switching back to tty1 (Crtl-Alt-F1) now the screen is scaled (despite of the BIOS-setting)! (the same true for the splash-screen during shutdown). I presume that this scaling begins already with the switching to Crtl-Alt-F7 (the same with resume after suspend). Could it be possible that the mouse-pointer (which is a hardware-cursor) inherits this scaling of the tty-consoles and due to this cannot be displayed any more together with the graphical surface which is not being scaled? -- mouse pointer disappears after switch to console or resuming from sleep https://launchpad.net/bugs/67196 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
