[Bug 746600] Re: Anti-aliased X display mode of Ghostscript does not work, in gv anti-aliasing needs to get turned off therefore

2011-04-23 Thread Markus Steinborn (upstream maintainer of GNU gv)
According to some ghostscript upstream bug (I do not remember which bug
it has been) reducing the value of -dMaxBitmap to some very small
value is a good workaround, even better than disabling antialias.

This can be done in the window State - Ghostscript options.

Feedback to the quality of this workaround is welcome.

According to http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=689734 this bug has
been fixed in rev 12380 of ghostscript, and indeed, using Ghostscript 9.02 +
patch 12380, the example file of this bug report is working as expected. (In
case you may ask how to install that ghostscript: I did not do my tests with
Ubuntu.)

BTW: To disable antialias by default, the following patch will do - just in
case you still decide to apply it (patching ghostscript seems to be more
reasonable now that a patch is available):

diff --git a/gv/src/gv_user_res.dat b/gv/src/gv_user_res.dat
index 3d8de9c..9ea1473 100644
--- a/gv/src/gv_user_res.dat

 GV.swapLandscape: False
 GV.autoCenter: True
-GV.antialias: True
+GV.antialias: False
 GV.respectDSC: True
 GV.ignoreEOF: True
 GV.confirmPrint: True

I will not change the ntialias default in upstream GNU gv, as a bugfixed
ghostscript is available.

[Bug 158991] Re: gv squashes output (wrong aspect ratio)

2010-03-11 Thread Markus Steinborn (upstream maintainer of GNU gv)
Thank you for your reporting this bug.

Could you please start gv from a terminal window by gv --debug and
report the complete output? That will only be 3 lines or so.

[Bug 158991] Re: gv squashes output (wrong aspect ratio)

2010-03-11 Thread Markus Steinborn (upstream maintainer of GNU gv)
Sorry, I just saw that Jaunty is delivered with a too old version of GNU
gv. gv --debug will not work. One version of GNU gv newer and it may
work.

2009-01-01 Thread Markus Steinborn (upstream maintainer of GNU gv)
Thanks for reporting the bug.

I have fixed the bug in CVS upstream. It will be included in GNU gv
3.6.7. Currently I think I will release a prerelease soon.

[Bug 158991] Re: gv squashes output (wrong aspect ratio)

2008-06-15 Thread Markus Steinborn (upstream maintainer of GNU gv)
I am the GNU gv upstream maintainer and not related with Ubuntu at all.

Please try the following workaround:

Go to State - Setup Options. There you'll find Screen size (mm).
Double the first value. On my setup, I change it from 332 x 212 to
664 x 212. Report me your results. Have you two displays connected to
your PC? Normal displays or widescreen? Which resolution?

Then test halving the second value and reseting the first to the
unmodified value. In my example, that would be 332 x 106. Please
report me your results for that test, too.

I think one of the two mentioned modifications should resolve your
problem. In this case, save your settings by the save button.
