[Bug 1958166] Re: Nautilus not responding after unpacking and removing an archive

2022-01-17 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Unexpectedly, the frozen Nautilus window reacts well with resizing and
such operations: it’s really just the interaction with tabs and files
that no longer work.

[Bug 1958166] [NEW] Nautilus not responding after unpacking and removing an archive

2022-01-17 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I was unpacking a .tar.gz archive with the “extract here” button. Once unpacked
(the progress bar on top right not only reached 100%, the dialogue box
disappeared altogether), I removed the archive file. The unpacking was a
success, and the extracted folder appeared on Nautilus, but Nautilus froze.
Impossible to change tab, or to select any file in the current folder.
Strangely enough, the window did not go black with a “Window not responding”
message as they usually do in Gnome-shell: it just did not reacted to any of my
input.
I was able to open a new window of Nautilus, and it worked. It’s just
frustrating as I had 7 tabs pointed to very different location: I had to reopen
all of these by hand.
Regards,
Martin.

[Bug 1899468] [NEW] KDEnLive crashes when adding a track

2020-10-12 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
- open a project (possibly one with a dozen of clips already loaded in the
project, and about 10 tracks).
- right click on one of the tracks, to add a new track in the middle of two
tracks.

At this part, I sometimes (it’s not deterministic, I’m afraid, but it is
fairly regular, like 30% of the cases) get KDEnLive to freeze, and
apport-bug to launch to tell me that it crashed unexpectedly. KDEnLive
non-responding windows then closes itself.

When reloading the project, I get most of my changes saved. It’s just
very frustrating to have to deal with so many crashes when editing a
video :-\

[Bug 1883596] [NEW] Gnome-shell acting very poorly under stress

2020-06-15 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
* in Gnome-shell, starts VLC. Drag and drop a .str file into VLC (without
providing it any video file).
* A bug in VLC will make it use 100% CPU for quite a long time.
* Meanwhile, in a terminal, type “top”.
* Gnome-shell will appear as one of the programs taking a lot of resources.
* Shortly after, the whole Gnome-shell will freeze and no longer respond. This
is a stressful situation for the user: not only is the computer burning hot,
but the window manager is no longer responding.
* Ctrl+Alt+F3 to open a TTY, kill -9
* Gnome-shell restarts, enabling you to interact with the windows, but shortly
afterwards, everything will freeze again.

In this situation, the system is under huge stress because of VLC.
However, this should not be an excuse to let the whole system stop
responding altogether. There is clearly an issue in VLC here, but this
kind of gnome-shell freeze appears with a variety of system-stresses on
my computer, not just VLC. It may be that VLC is causing a lot of
system calls that are caught by Gnome-shell? I am not sure what exactly
is happening.

I am not sure even whether this is really an issue with Gnome-shell: it
may be an issue with its parent process, or whatever.

System stress is not an ideal situation, and I fully understand that it
can be difficult to deal with. I just feel that Gnome-shell could
handle it slightly better.

I would understand that this bug report might be too subjective and be
marked as invalid. Anyway, I just wanted to share my frustration. If I
can help in any way, please tell me how ☺

[Bug 1865337] Re: Gnome 3 keeps adding VLC in Alt+Tab

2020-05-01 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Hi!

Sorry for the late answer. Here is the return for `vlc --version`. The
issue is relatively difficult to reproduce: I have a set of mkv/webm
files that do it all the times, but if I set-up VLC with other files
(mp3), the issue does not appear.

```bash
$ vlc --version
VLC media player 3.0.8 Vetinari (revision 3.0.8-0-gf350b6b5a7)
VLC version 3.0.8 Vetinari (3.0.8-0-gf350b6b5a7)
Compiled by buildd on lcy01-amd64-014.buildd (Sep 11 2019 11:39:37)
Compiler: gcc version 7.4.0 (Ubuntu 7.4.0-1ubuntu1~18.04.1)
This program comes with NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law.
You may redistribute it under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence;
see the file named COPYING for details.
Written by the VideoLAN team; see the AUTHORS file.
```

I was also able to reproduce the issue with LibreOffice: I launched
LibreOffice, then switched workspace. Once LibreOffice was ready, it
appeared “by surprise” in the Alt+Tab menu of another workspace.

VLC and LibreOffice are both large softwares: maybe they both launch
some kind of global instance in addition to the windows, and it is this
global instance that trigger the Alt-Tab notification? I can’t tell,
apart from the fact that each time this happens, I’m being caught by
surprise 

I attaching the logs. At the time 11:50, it was VLC doing the Alt+Tab
appearance in another workspace, and at 11:54, it was LibreOffice.

I will try to reproduce the issue in a newly created session. ☺

Have a nice day ☺
Martin.

[Bug 1869370] [NEW] VLC refuses to stop

2020-03-27 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

I close a VLC window. This placed VLC in a weird state: it wouldn’t
start again. There was still a VLC icon on the taskbar. I clicked on it
and selected “Quit”, but VLC would still not stop. Typing “killall vlc”
on a terminal would not stop the issue. The only way I found to actually
stop VLC was to do “ps -e | grep vlc” then kill -9 the displayed number.
I guess that one of VLC’s process was in some kind of zombie state?

[Bug 1867522] [NEW] gitg crashes with assertion `g_slist_length (ce->priv->invalid) <= 1`

2020-03-15 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I’m not sure whether this is really a new bug: there are a lot of bug report
for gitg crashes, and it is difficult to investigate which is the same than
mine.

There is a git repository on my computer in which gitg crashes. Here is its
output:
```
(gitg:8104): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: 14:43:13.417: g_converter_convert: assertion
'outbuf_size > 0' failed
** (gitg:8104): WARNING **: 14:43:13.417: gitg-resource.vala:33: Error while
loading resource: style-unix.css:1:0Failed to import: The resource at
“/org/gnome/gitg/ui/style-unix.css” failed to decompress
**
GtkSourceView:ERROR:gtksourcecontextengine.c:5543:update_syntax: assertion
failed: (g_slist_length (ce->priv->invalid) <= 1)
Aborted (core dumped)
```
Note that there are other git repositories on my computer in which gitg doesn’t
crashes. Here is the output of gitg in another repository where it doesn’t
crash:
```
(gitg:8913): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: 14:47:20.238: g_converter_convert: assertion
'outbuf_size > 0' failed
** (gitg:8913): WARNING **: 14:47:20.238: gitg-resource.vala:33: Error while
loading resource: style-unix.css:1:0Failed to import: The resource at
“/org/gnome/gitg/ui/style-unix.css” failed to decompress
```
So it seems that the first lines are normal.

The repository in which it fails can be found at
https://github.com/Mbodin/murder-generator/tree/c5d43cc521d4002731a4c6f465a56324ba3732e6
When I launch gitg, its window appears very briefly, then it crashes without me
doing anything. This is very quick: it all happens within a blink.

The bug is not deterministic: sometimes in this repository, the windows
does appear. It is however wrong: in the commit list, only the three
first commits appear (despite being much more than this in the current
branch). When this happens, any interaction I have with the window just
makes it crashes immediately, leaving the exact same error message, with
the exact same assert error.

This scenario in which gitg doesn’t immediately crash is very rare: less
than 1 out of 10 attemps.

Hoping it can help,
Regards,
Martin.

[Bug 1865337] [NEW] Gnome 3 keeps adding VLC in Alt+Tab

2020-03-01 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have these two settings on:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/464946/force-alt-tab-to-switch-only-on-current-workspace-in-gnome-shell
 and
https://superuser.com/questions/394376/how-to-prevent-gnome-shells-alttab-from-grouping-windows-from-similar-apps
I would thus expect that Alt+Tab would only show apps from the current
workspace. However, I have VLC on another workspace, and Gnome 3 always show
VLC as first app in Alt+Tab. To remove the app, I have to go to VLC’s
workspace, and focus its window. But then when VLC will switch song, it will go
again as first app in Gnome 3’s Alt+Tab shortcut in ALL workspace.

This is my number 1 issue in Gnome 3 that just makes me crazy: as VLC is
shown as first app when I do Alt+Tab and that the current app is thus
shwn second, doing Alt+tab quickly leaves the current app as current.
Because VLC was shown first and the current app second, Alt+Tab goes to
the second element, that is, the current one. This basically makes
Alt+Tab completely useless for me, and I have to press the super key
each time to switch windows. This is extremely annoying.

Of course, I could just type Alt+tab+tab to switch to the third app,
expect that (1) this is extremely counter-intuitive, and (2) depending
on whether VLC is adding this “all workspace Alt+Tab notification” or
not, the semantics is not the same.

Note that I have prevented VLC to display any notification. This
prevents VLC from adding overlay notification, but does not prevent VLC
to do this Alt+Tab notification.

This is incredibly annoying. As the semantics of “/org/gnome/shell/app-
switcher/current-workspace-only” is *not* to only switch between current
workspace (as it always adds VLC’s notificationsm whichever workspace
VLC is), I suggest to either rename it or fix its behaviour to match its
name.

Attachment: a screenshot of my screen when I do the Alt+Tab. As the
print-screen button in Gnome 3 frustratingly does not work when pressing
Alt+Tab, I took it with my phone. In this case, I have Firefox opened as
well as a console in this workspace, and VLC is in another workspace. I
have a lot of other apps in other workspaces too, but they do not
trigger this “Alt+Tab notification”.

Regards,
Martin.

  Of course, I could just type Alt+tab+tab to switch to the third app,
  expect that (1)

[Bug 1856257] Re: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error

2019-12-16 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Ah, OK ☺  Good.

There was a package update this morning, of the
“oem-wifi-iwlwifi-mainline-5.1rc1-dkms” package. Because there was “wifi” in
the name, I immediately restarted the system. So good news: I got wifi now!
If it is of any help, here is the transcript of the installation (which was
unusually long).

Regards,
Martin.

[Bug 1856257] Re: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error

2019-12-13 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
I think that I already executed the command “apport-collect 1856257”
just after reporting the bug (I had issues understanding how to use
Apport: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1856255 ).
Do you want me to execute it again? (As you say to call it only once, I
don’t want to mess with anything here.)

I have to admit that the difference between “apport-bug” and “ubuntu-
bug” always confused me. Is there a difference?

I’ve run the following three commands, and am attaching the two files “output”
and “output2”.
```bash
$ dmesg > output
$ sudo ifconfig wlp59s0 up
$ dmesg > output2
[Bug 1856255] Re: Apport-bug wrongly complains about the program not being installed
2019-12-13 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Hi,
You are correct: now that I checked, “apport-bug apport” and “apport-bug
net-tools” works fine.  I agree that this is not a bug.
It can however be rephrased as an enhancement: I believe that most
people think of programs, not packages (at least I do ☺).  So if there
is a bug with a program, I just call “apport-bug” followed by the
program name (which most of the case actually corresponds to the package
name, but as instanced here, not always).
When typing a non-existent command in the shell, I usually get a message
“try installing this package”: do you think that it would be easy to add
a feature of Apport such that if the package is non-installed, but that
there is a command with this name, it suggests a package name instead?
I think that this would greatly help getting useful bug reports ☺  Maybe
the code from gnome-terminal that looks for such package can be reused?
Have a nice day,
Martin.
[Bug 1856257] [NEW] SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error
2019-12-12 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:
My wifi is no longer working since a recent update (yesterday, I think).
When typing “ifconfig -a”, I get (among other connections), the
following one, which seems to correspond to my wifi card:
```bash
wlp59s0: flags=4098  mtu 1500
ether 5c:87:9c:fa:81:c9  txqueuelen 1000  (Ethernet)
RX packets 0  bytes 0 (0.0 B)
RX errors 0  dropped 0  overruns 0  frame 0
TX packets 0  bytes 0 (0.0 B)
TX errors 0  dropped 0 overruns 0  carrier 0  collisions 0
```
I thus tried to switch it on, but I get the following message:
```bash
$ sudo ifconfig wlp59s0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Input/output error
```
This error message is not really helpful: I would have expected ifconfig to
provide a more user-friendly explanation about what is not working well.
Other commands that might be relevant:
```bash
$ iwconfig

[Bug 1856255] [NEW] Apport-bug wrongly complains about the program not being installed

2019-12-12 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

I typed “apport-bug ifconfig” because ifconfig was wrongly behaving.
Apport told me that ifconfig was not installed. But it was! So I
restarted my computer, just in case, but the bug is still there. And
for all programs that it tried. Including Apport itself.

Currently, when I type “apport-bug apport-bug”, I get a window “Problem
in apport-bug” with the following message: “The problem cannot be
reported: This report is about a package that is not installed.” (See
screenshot here-attached.)

The error message is clearly wrong: apport-bug must be installed to be able to
display this window.

  Apport told me that ifconfig was not installed. But it was! So I

[Bug 1855599] [NEW] VLC still notifying despite “SHow media change popup” being set as “Never”.

2019-12-08 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

This is very frustrating: Alt-tab on my window manager behaves very very
badly if VLC is sending notifications (basically it forces me to switch
to VLC, which is almost never what I want when VLC is playing audio). I
have disabled notifications in VLC (Tools > Preferences > Interface >
Show media change popup > Never). Yet I still get these notifications
popup. Is there a way to say “Never, never” to VLC to stop it sending
this annoying notifications?

[Bug 1846877] Re: Thunderbird provides no way to interact with the interface after adding an account.

2019-10-15 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Thanks for the answer! Redirecting to the add-on is fine for most
users, but in this case, this account is meant to have IMAP enabled (at
least, that’s what the college says).

In any case, if IMAP is really not working, I would have expected some
kind of error message rather than just greying all the buttons except
cancel and add a “Password ok!” message in the window: as-is, it just
makes me wonder what is the issue. Adding an error message like “The
server does not seem to implement IMAP, please check the entered
information” would be much better than what absence of feedback that
Thunderbird is currently doing.

[Bug 1846877] [NEW] Thunderbird provides no way to interact with the interface after adding an account.

2019-10-05 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I’ve tried to add an account from an Office account. The default suggestion
from Thunderbird is to use Owl, a paid add-on, which is probably the best
solution for non-technical users.
I however am a technical user and don’t mind just setting what I’m being asked
to do here:
https://www.imperial.ac.uk/admin-services/ict/self-service/connect-communicate/email/use/thunderbird/
After all the setting done, I just click on the button “Done”.

What I expected:
Thunderbird closing the setting window and adding the account.

What I got:
Thunderbird not closing the setting window, but greying all its buttons but
“Cancel”. After waiting some time, still the same. I eventually clicked on
“Cancel”. The account was not added, but the new SMTP was added. It seems
that the addition the new account stopped in the middle of the process, and
that Thunderbird did not catch the error or whatever happened.

Regards,
Martin.

[Bug 1835467] Re: Repeatingly looking for the next occurrence of a word search in a webpage misses one occurrence.

2019-07-23 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
I just download the upstream build of Firefox, and it does display the same
behaviour. So I guess that it’s not due to an issue of the installation of
Firefox in my system. Maybe it’s an issue with a package that Firefox is using
that happens to have a bug in my computer? It’s very difficult to diagnose and
the fact that it seems that only one computer is affected makes it even more
difficult (but at the same time makes it less important too, I guess).
If I can run something that can help diagnose this, I would be happy to help
(although not next month: I will be moving and unfortunately won’t have much
time for this, sorry).
I’m going to open a bug in Bugzilla.

[Bug 1835467] Re: Repeatingly looking for the next occurrence of a word search in a webpage misses one occurrence.

2019-07-14 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
There have been a system update recently (I’m now in Firefox 67.0.4 (64
bits)), so I tried to reproduce the bug on the new version. I’m sorry
to say that it is still present, with the same characteristics
(“addEventListener” missing the third occurrence, and “function” missing
the 8th, 13th, and 16th occurrences). (The importance of the bug hasn’t
increase in any way, of course: it’s still a minor bug.)

[Bug 1835467] Re: Repeatingly looking for the next occurrence of a word search in a webpage misses one occurrence.

2019-07-10 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
I just restarted Firefox with add-ons disabled. The behaviour is the
same: it misses the third occurrence of “addEventListener” (using
Ctrl+g), and the 8th, 13th, and 16th for “function”, but no miss for
“Sw”. As far as I can tell, the behaviour is the same whether add-ons
are on or not. This was unexpected.

Something interesting that I did not notice before: I searched for
“addEventListener” three times, to get to the fourth occurrence of it,
then started searching for “function”. The next occurrence of
“function” is then the 16th one, and it did reach it. When pressing
Ctrl+G, it however missed the 17th to go directly to the first. Then,
going through the loop of Ctrl+G reaches all occurrences except the 8th,
13th, and 16th, as before. So there is nothing special about the number
16 when looking for “function”: it only misses it when starting from the
first occurrence.

[Bug 1835467] Re: Repeatingly looking for the next occurrence of a word search in a webpage misses one occurrence.

2019-07-05 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Thanks for the response.

To be fair, this behaviour is so unexpected (like, why is it the third
occurrence and not the second?) that I really thought that I was very
tired yesterday evening, and hoped that the bug would have disappeared
today. But… no. It is still there. Sorry.

I tried to reproduce the behaviour at work, and with Firefox on my
phone, and it behaved normally in these other devices. I guess that
it’s not the same version of Firefox (and/or language settings, or even
system). On my home computer, it’s still there.

By the way, the index of the occurrence is correctly given: it starts
with “Occurrence 1 sur 4”, then “Occurrence 2 sur 4”, then “Occurrence 4
sur 4”, then “Occurrence 1 sur 4 Bas de la page atteint, poursuite au
début”. This time, it did not reach occurrence 3 even at the first
cycle.

I wasn’t aware of the Ctrl+G shortcut ☺ Thanks! The behaviour is the
same with it than by clicking on the down arrow in the interface.

I also tried with other searches (on the same webpage), like “function”.
This time, there are 17 occurrences, and there are more misses (using
Ctrl+G): it misses this time the 8th, 13th, and 16th occurrences. It is
even less expected than before ☹

It is very difficult to understand the pattern there. When I try
looking for “Sw”, I get 9 occurrences, and no miss: all 9 occurrences
get to be reached one after the other.

The fact that the bug does not appear on other systems or on a fresh
install as you did seems to indicate that something is wrong with my
system :-\ I did not remember having changed any behaviours of Firefox
in a strange way. I did install some plug-ins in Firefox, though: maybe
the bug comes from one of these?

The stranger thing is that the bug seems to be deterministic in my
computer: it’s always the third occurrence for the “addEventListener”
search and the 8, 13, 16th occurrences for the “function” search. This
seems to indicate that it’s not an issue with my keyboard accidentally
pressing twice Ctrl+G or something like that. This is strange :-\

If I can help, don’t hesitate to ask for more details. But again, this
bug is actually more funny than harmful.

Regards,
Martin.

[Bug 1835467] Re: Loop through search occurrences in a wegpage misses one item.

2019-07-04 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
** Description changed:

  Hi,
  This is probably the most unexpected bug that I have ever seen. Fortunately,
it is benign.

  How to reproduce:
  - Go to the webpage https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_autocomplete.asp
- - Type Ctrl+f to look for a work through the webpage.
+ - Type Ctrl+f to look for a word through the webpage.
  - Search for addEventListener. Firefox successfully found 4 occurrences on
the webpage.
- - Using the arrows next to the search box, loop through all occurrences.
Firefox then loops for the following occurrences:
- 1 inp.addEventListener("input", function(e) {
- 2 b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
- 3 inp.addEventListener("keydown", function(e) { (although it is hidden by the
message about cookies)
- 4 document.addEventListener("click", function (e) {
- 5 Loops back to the first occurrence inp.addEventListener("input",
function(e) {
- 6 Again the second occurrence: b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
- 7 Directly to the fourth occurrence, missing the third one:
document.addEventListener("click", function (e) {
- 8 (goes back to 5).
+ - Using the arrows next to the search box, loop through all occurrences.
Firefox then jumps to the following occurrences, in order:
+ 1. inp.addEventListener("input", function(e) {
+ 2. b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
+ 3. inp.addEventListener("keydown", function(e) { (In my screen is, it was
hidden by the message about cookies: scrolling down by 1cm makes it appear.)
+ 4. document.addEventListener("click", function (e) {
+ 5. First occurrence again: inp.addEventListener("input", function(e) {
+ 6. Second occurrence again: b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
+ 7. Firefox then directly jumps to the fourth occurrence, missing the third
one: document.addEventListener("click", function (e) {
+ 8. (goes back to 5).

  In other words, although the first cycle through all occurrences was
  correct, the following cycles misses the third occurrence! I have
- restarted Firefox and still gets this behaviour.
+ restarted Firefox and still get this behaviour.

  If instead of clicking on the “down” arrow to look for the second
- occurrence, then it is “b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {” which
- is missing from the loop: it seems that whenever cycling through all
- occurrences of a search in a webpage, if there is only four occurrences,
- then the third one is never reached except in the first cycle.
+ occurrence, then it is “b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {”
+ instead of “inp.addEventListener("keydown", function(e) {” which is
+ missing from the loop: it seems that whenever cycling through all
+ occurrences of a search in a webpage, if there are only four
+ occurrences, then the third one is never reached except in the first
+ cycle.

  I am sending a screenshot of the situation.

- This is a very unexpected behaviour, although of minor consequences.
+ This is a very unexpected behaviour, but of very minor consequence:
+ there is no need to place a high level of importance for this bug, I
+ guess.

  Regards,
  Martin.

[Bug 1835467] [NEW] Loop through search occurrences in a wegpage misses one item.

2019-07-04 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

Hi,
This is probably the most unexpected bug that I have ever seen. Fortunately, it
is benign.

How to reproduce:
- Go to the webpage https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_autocomplete.asp
- Type Ctrl+f to look for a work through the webpage.
- Search for addEventListener. Firefox successfully found 4 occurrences on the
webpage.
- Using the arrows next to the search box, loop through all occurrences.
Firefox then loops for the following occurrences:
1 inp.addEventListener("input", function(e) {
2 b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
3 inp.addEventListener("keydown", function(e) { (although it is hidden by the
message about cookies)
4 document.addEventListener("click", function (e) {
5 Loops back to the first occurrence inp.addEventListener("input", function(e) {
6 Again the second occurrence: b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {
7 Directly to the fourth occurrence, missing the third one:
document.addEventListener("click", function (e) {
8 (goes back to 5).

In other words, although the first cycle through all occurrences was
correct, the following cycles misses the third occurrence! I have
restarted Firefox and still gets this behaviour.

If instead of clicking on the “down” arrow to look for the second
occurrence, then it is “b.addEventListener("click", function(e) {” which
is missing from the loop: it seems that whenever cycling through all
occurrences of a search in a webpage, if there is only four occurrences,
then the third one is never reached except in the first cycle.

I am sending a screenshot of the situation.

This is a very unexpected behaviour, although of minor consequences.

Regards,
Martin.

This happens from time to time (about three times a week): without any
particular reason, pcmanfm freezes. I’m navigating in a pcmanfm window,
and it suddenly freezes, the desktop disappears, and all other pcmanfm

yet.

[Bug 1822206] Re: pcmanfm suddenly froze when opening a folder

2019-04-07 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
This bug is more frequent than what I initially expected: it’s the third
time it occurred since I initially reported. Has something been changed
recently in the software or its dependencies?

[Bug 1822206] Re: pcmanfm suddenly froze when opening a folder

2019-03-28 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Oh, and I forgot to mention: after killing pcmanfm as the system
suggested, I could restart pcmanfm without issue. The desktop was still
unusable for this session, but pcmanfm’s windows worked well after
restarting it, without the need of restarting the session. So I guess
that this is a minor issue.

[Bug 1822206] [NEW] pcmanfm suddenly froze when opening a folder

2019-03-28 Thread Martin ConstantinoBodin
Public bug reported:

Nothing complex here: I just opened pcmanfm from the usual interface and
opened a folder. This folder was accessible from the terminal before and
after launching pcmanfm so there was no reason for it to crash. This
folder was in the same disk as the operating system, so nothing funny
here. And yet pcmanfm suddenly froze: its window was no longer redrawing
parts that have been hidden by another window, but the desktop (which is
operated by pcmanfm) lost all its icons. I’m sorry to say that there was
no reason for it to crash at this moment: no usb-device connected, no
remote folder, just a plain folder in the home folder. I haven’t changed
this folder for at least a week, and yesterday, pcmanfm was able to
access it just fine. I opened a terminal and typed “apport-bug pcmanfm”
while its window was still opened, then killed it once the report was
sent.
