[Bug 575623] Re: Advanced Topics → About U sers and Groups links to a local file
I'm using Kubuntu 10.04, and the link doesn't work for me. When I click on the link, nothing happens at all. Not when I use Firefox, which is my preferred web browser. There is a Help app in the KDE menu, but this seems not to be related to the Ubuntu website, it does not show the same content. So when you said in that system help, the link to the base-passwd page works, this only works in Ubuntu, not in Kubuntu. I cannot find a Help application in Kubuntu which is able to open the link. Perhaps this issue can be fixed by providing a Help application for Kubuntu which shows the same content as the website. I think that there may be one for Ubuntu with Gnome already. The file /usr/share/doc/base-passwd/users-and-groups.html does exist on my Kubuntu system, and if I use Dolphin to browse to the file, then I can open it. Also, I have just discovered that if I open Konqueror and use that to view the official Ubuntu website, then I can open the link; it opens the local file. So perhaps the issue can be fixed by adding a sentence to the website that says that if Kubuntu users cannot open the link with Firefox then try it with Konqueror. Broken links on the Ubuntu website seems to be a persistent problem. I reported similar bugs in about 2007. Other people were reporting the problem then too. The broken links were caused by links to local files, that would not open, like this broken link reported here. And when the broken links were reported, the bug reports were met with a similar response : a statement that the broken link would not be fixed. I guess that the bug was then forgotten by the Ubuntu docs developers. -- Advanced Topics → About Users and Groups links to a local file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm having this same problem with Kubuntu 9.04, (AMD64 version). Jaunty. It seems to be mostly people with 64-bit Kubuntu who have this problem. Flash videos in Firefox and Konqueror had no sound. Amarok sound was fine. Here is the work-around that I used. I used K-Mixer, from the system tray, to change the channel PCM to maximum. [Bug 264142] Re: Thunderbird will not display emails any more!
Since I submitted this bug report, I have managed to get my copy of Thunderbird working again. In the screenshot, you can just see that the left-hand border looks a bit wider than the right-hand border. There is normally a narrow vertical bar that separates the list of folders, on the left, and the list of emails, on the right. This bar had moved to the extreme left of the main window, and had merged with the border of the window. I was able to use my mouse to separate the vertical bar from the border of the window. I was then able to move it to where it should be, so that the list of folders appeared on its left, and the list of emails appeared on its right. I think this problem was initially caused by a fault in my mouse, or in software that controls my mouse. This is not under the control of Thunderbird developers. Perhaps this sort of problem, with the vertical bar disappearing and with no visible way to get it back, could be prevented. There could be a minimum gap of 20 pixels between the vertical bar and the left-hand border. Or possibly there could be an item in the View menu to restore the view to normal. -- Thunderbird will not display emails any more! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264142 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: thunderbird While I was using Thunderbird, the vertical border between the list of folders and the list of emails moved, as I moved my mouse. Then the view changed so that only the HTML page introducing Thunderbird was visible. (The page with the header Thunderbird Mail - Local Folders.) I cannot change this view. So I cannot see any emails, or even a list of folders. Rebooting doesn't help. My copy of Thunderbird is now completely non-functional. Its useless. [Bug 263429] Re: Kubuntu Thunderbird menu option Run Filters on Folder fails to work.
The same bug also affects Thunderbird in Windows XP. I.e. when I try to run the menu option Run Filters on Folder, this does nothing at all, in Windows XP too. I have similar filters in Thunderbird in Windows XP and in Linux, and similar account details. I don't know if this bug is specific to these details, or if it affects everyone. The menu item with the problem is only needed to test Thunderbird to see if the Filters work, when using Thunderbird for the first time. So possibly this bug is only seen by people new to Thunderbird. These people are probably unlikely to report a bug. (Only this Run Filters on Folder menu item fails to work in Windows. The folder that was highlighted when I clicked on the option was the Inbox, and it had emails that should have been moved by the filters. But they were not moved. [Bug 27508] Re: Only 60 Hz display refresh available from gnome screen resolution utility
I have a similar problem, with a different graphics system. Could this be related to the bug reported here? If not, I might report it elsewhere. I have a SiS 730 graphics system, which means its on-board graphics, on a SiS motherboard. I think its not a very good graphics system. The highest resolution I can get is 1280 * 1024, and its only 60 Hz! I am using Ubuntu 7.4. I have a dual-boot system, so I can boot into Windows XP on the same computer. In Windows XP, I can get 1280 * 1024 at 60 Hz or 75 Hz or 85 Hz. In Windows XP I can also get 1600 * 1200 at various frequencies up to 75 Hz. I must admit that the good resolutions and frequencies that I can get in Windows XP are only possible when using 16 bit color depth. I.e. 16 bits per pixel. When I set color depth to 32 bits per pixel then I can only get 1280 * 1024 at 60 Hz, the same as in Ubuntu. (I don't know if this is relevant or not, it may not be.) My monitor is not the problem, it is capable of much better. When I use it on another computer, it can use 1600 * 1200 at 100 Hz. This may not count as a bug. It may just be that the app in Gnome for changing the monitor resolution assumes that everyone wants to use 32 bit color depth. This app doesn't offer me the ability to change the color depth. But for me personally, with my graphics system, I'd like to be offered a higher refresh rate than 60 Hz, even if I have to accept a lower color depth with it. I have heard that I can probably fix this problem by editing xorg.conf. That may be able to solve my problem. But I wonder if this is a bug, and whether it is likely to be fixed. I'm a Linux newbie, so I'm curious about whether this is a bug, and what happens when a bug is reported. [Bug 123668] Re: Can't print to the Network Printer.
This printer bug is no longer a problem for me. I have since successfully upgraded to Ubuntu 7.4, and now I am no longer getting this problem with the printer. I can now use a network printer. As to why I was unable to tell what version of Ubuntu I had, I think I know that now. I started to update Ubuntu, using Update Manager, then I left my computer, and came back a few hours later. I saw a message saying my system is up-to-date, so I thought this meant that my system had just been upgraded. The message was not actually true. So thats a bug. It failed to say that a new version was available. I have seen it written, elsewhere in this bug system, that this failure to update Ubuntu can happen when the update server is down for scheduled maintenance.
