For whatever reason, launchpad is reporting that the bug this is a
duplicate of (#1197966) doesn't exist. Is that the correct number listed
in the post?

Hello,

My Touchpad is getting recognized in /proc/bus/input/devices but in X
server touchpad is not working. This happened after an update. My USB
mouse is working fine though.

I came across this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-
xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/315882 but the package is for jaunty and would
not install on 8.10. I added the lines to the fdi file

match key=info.product contains=SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
merge key=input.x11_driver type=stringsynaptics/merge
/match

Attaching o/p of cat /proc/bus/input/devices, lspci, dmesg and Xorg.log

[Bug 323470] [NEW] Wire Network connection breaks when WICD is not Installed

2009-01-30 Thread Masood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

after one of Ubuntu updates, I noticed that each time I restart my
machine or reboot, my wired network connection breaks Red x on the
Network-Manager tray Icon and I had to type dhclient in terminal
every time to fix the broken connection. As aid, it was originally fine
until one of the updates caused this problem and i don't know which one
did it.

I now have WICD installed based on suggestion from marcobra and that
fixed my problem. WICD works better and provides user with a lot more
control over networking features and configuration.

Thank you all,

Masood

This is a very annoying error and I really don't know how to find a
workaround resolving this. Automatic BUG reporting also doesn't work in
this situation. I am running Ubuntu 8.10.

Thanks,

[Bug 192360] [NEW] libglx.so link in current nVidia drivers is broken

2008-02-16 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

Using hardy with all the latest packages. Graphics hardware is an nVidia
GeForce Go 7600.

The nvidia-glx-new package (and presumably the other nvidia-glx
packages) installs a file at /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglx.so. In older
versions of the package, this was a link to
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglx.so.xxx.xx, where xxx.xx was the nVidia
driver version number. However, with the current nvidia-glx-new, the
second file is now located at
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.xxx.xx but
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libglx.so still points to the old location. This
causes a broken link and as a result, anyone using the nvidia Xorg
driver ends up having glx broken/disabled. The link included with the
package should be updated to fix this.

[Bug 191777] [NEW] Firefox 3.0 uses a different font for the UI in KDE

2008-02-14 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

Using Kubuntu hardy, and installed firefox-3.0 to try it out. However, I
noticed that the program was themed differently than other GTK apps in
KDE; instead of using the Sans Serif font as set in the GTK-QT settings,
the program appears to use whatever the default font is set in the
Content configuration for the browser (in my case, Serif). Changing the
default font in Firefox then restarting the browser changed the
browser's UI font to the new font I had selected. Seems like firefox-3.0
doesn't seem to play nice with the gtk-qt theme.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Start Firefox in KDE (3 or 4 doesn't matter, it happens in both).
2) In the browser, go to Edit - Configuration - Content
3) In the Fonts and Colors box, select a new default font.
4) Restart the browser. The browser's UI should be in the font selected in the
Firefox menu.

[Bug 190382] Re: Unable to change folder views for external storage in KDE4

2008-02-13 Thread Nael Masood
No, my external drive is properly mounted as read/write - I can copy and

[Bug 190382] [NEW] Unable to change folder views for external storage in KDE4

2008-02-08 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

Been using KDE 4.0 in both Kubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) and 8.04 (hardy,
development). On my system, I use an external hard drive connected by
USB as a storage drive for my documents and such. In KDE3, I liked how I
was able to change the icons of folders as well as adjust how each
folder could be viewed. Any changes I made, either with Konqueror or
Dolphin, were kept.

However, using Dolphin or Konqueror in KDE4, I've found that any changes
I make to the viewing preferences on the external drive don't stick -
custom folder icons don't change, and changing folder view settings such
as switching to detail view doesn't stick - if I leave the directory and
return, the default view for the folder has been restored. Dolphin seems
to create a .directory file in each folder where the settings should be
stored, but opening up the .directory files with KWrite reveals they're
blank.

I can change the view setting in my home folder just fine, and this is
not an issue of needing write permission for the files on my external -
I can move, copy and remove files from it just fine. It's just that the
Dolphin kpart seems to be spitting out blank .directory files when it
should saving custom folder view settings.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Plug in a USB flash drive
2) Create a new folder on the flash drive.
3) Right click and select Properties on the folder
4) Click on the icon image and select a new icon for the folder
5) Press OK and save the new icon. The folder icon should not change
6) Go into the folder, choose to view hidden files and open up the .directory
file in a text editor. It should be blank.

[Bug 138274] Re: Dolphin does not remember view profile

2007-09-11 Thread Nael Masood
I can confirm this bug. However, this problem did not happen with a

updated to 0.9.2. No matter what the setting is in the .dolphinview file

becoming annoying.

[Bug 136695] Cutting and pasting files with Dolphin does not work properly

2007-09-01 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

Trying out Dolphin 0.9.1 with Kubuntu Gutsy. I've noticed that when
using Dolphin, moving files with the cut-and-paste method does not work
properly - a copy of the file(s) being cut is created in the new
location, but the file in the original location is still there. The only
way to properly get rid of the file in the old location is to manually
delete it.

To reproduce, just cut and paste a file to another location in Dolphin.

[Bug 102076] Usplash bails to console before starting X/kdm

2007-04-02 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

start-up Usplash now quits to console right before X (and kdm) start.
The splash will fill up the meter almost to full, and when it is

does not appears to be any errors that come up on boot up. After the
hardware detection, the screen goes black for a second, then returns to
normal and starts the normal startup scripts. While those are being
executed, nothing out of the ordinary comes up. After the scripts are
finished running, I am dumped to a terminal prompt. The only way I can
start the X server is by running startx from the prompt.

[Bug 83151] Re: Kubuntu Herd 3 fails to start X on Inspiron 5100

2007-02-05 Thread Nael Masood
Okay, after further hardware testing, I think I've isolated the problem
to my wireless card, a D-Link GWL-G630 PC card with an Atheros chipset.
When I tried booting the Kubuntu CD with the wireless card not inserted,
it went through the whole boot process properly, including starting X.
When I tried inserting the card in during the live environment, the
device was not picked up by the system and checking /dev found no new
nodes that would indicate a wireless device. I'd have to find if the
other person over on the forums that was having this problem has an
Atheros wireless card, or if it's something else about the hardware.

[Bug 83151] Kubuntu Herd 3 fails to start X on Inspiron 5100

2007-02-03 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

When trying to use live environment on the Kubuntu Herd 3 desktop with a
Dell Inspiron 5100, the X server does not start. The boot is incredibly
slow, bails out to a text console after a few minutes and gets stuck
after a status message about fsck. There is no error message indicating
anything has gone wrong in the console.

Specs of the machine are a 2.6 GHz Pentium 4-M, 768 MB of RAM, an ATI
Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics card, and a 24x CD-RW drive.

[Bug 34821] Re: No usplash on shutdown with kdm

2006-12-15 Thread Nael Masood
Okay, found something interesting.

With edgy (and I assume this is the same with feisty), when I shutdown
straight from KDE without logging out to KDM, the Usplash image shows up
for a second before going black, then reappearing during the shutdown
splash refresh (where the meter goes to 0, then goes back to having
about 25% filled and then continues). However, I found that if I kill
the X server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace after shutting down, but *before*
the switch to Usplash, the shutdown theme is shown in it's entirety
without going black. Can anybody else who has this problem confirms that
this happens on their machine, and it's not just a fluke on my machine.

Er, correction on my last comment - I meant after I choose to shut
down; obviously you can't kill the X server when the system's already
off. :B

[Bug 64284] Re: mozilla-mplayer has problems playing back some Windows Media streams

2006-10-13 Thread Nael Masood
** Summary changed:

- mozilla-mplayer has probelms playing back some Windows Media streams
+ mozilla-mplayer has problems playing back some Windows Media streams

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mozilla-mplayer

In Edgy, using the latest Firefox and latest mozilla-mplayer packages, I
cannot play certain Windows Media steams (usually ones with playlists)
that I could play with Firefox and mozilla-mplayer in Dapper. If I try
to play these streams in Edgy, the plugins keep reloading various URLs,
  and then stop playback.

I have isolated this as a plugin problem; I have tried using a Mozilla
build of Firefox 2.0 RC1 with the plugin to play the streams, which did
not work, which means it is not the browser, and I have loaded the
streams into the MPlayer I'm using. They played back as expected,
meaning it is not an MPlayer problem. I have the latest w32codecs
- package installed.
+ package installed. It will work when I have the Dapper package
+ (3.17-1ubuntu1) installed.

Two example streams that cause this problem (open them in a browser):

http://www.nhl.com/video/app?service=pagepage=TVVideoPlayermedia=/comp/Forsberg_700.wmv

[Bug 62550] Re: Konqueror crashes when dealing with *.html files

2006-10-03 Thread Nael Masood
I just recently upgraded to Edgy and the problem no longer pops up. It
seems to be a Dapper-only problem...stll, should I send you a file
anyway? Like I said, it's random and happens to any *.html file I opened
in Kubuntu Dapper.

[Bug 62550] Konqueror crashes when dealing with *.html files

2006-09-26 Thread Nael Masood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: konqueror

Using KDE 3.5.4 with Kubuntu 6.06.

I have a collection of HTML files on a local hard drive which I use
Konqueror to preview with. However, randomly, if I close the Konqueror
tab or window that has an HTML file open or go back to the local
directory and open the HTML file in a different application, Konqueror
will crash. This seems to happen randomly; sometimes it'll happen,
sometimes it won't.

Here is the gdb output produced from the crash:
