[Bug 1336184] Re: USB flash drive (NTFS) keeps writing for quite a while even after "Eject" completes

2021-12-12 Thread MasterCATZ
Ubuntu 22.04 Kernel 5.15's and this issue still exists
I really do wish someone would do something about this

I have been waiting hours for a ~100meg file to finish writing to a NTFS
partition
and yep its almost midnight
its a USB3 drive that I can read 400mbs from ...

Every 2.0s: grep -e Dirty: -e Writeback: /proc... aio: Sun Dec 12
23:25:38 2021

Dirty: 4820 kB
Writeback: 4 kB

what gets me is I can copy a 3 gig file , and the slow down will start
after 1 Gb when dirtybit limit is reached then it just trickles along at
kbs

this does not happen with fat32 , but I need NTFS for mounting Bootable ISO's
I really should have just hoped on a windows PC and copied the files ..

[Bug 1823037] Re: amd_iommu possible data corruption

2019-12-18 Thread MasterCATZ
seems I finally found the real issue

in the bios of my Gigabyte x570 UD , when I have 4G encode option enabled I
have silent data corruption
( or at least if its enabled along side with IOMMU )

I need to make another array that I can kill to keep testing with , but
I can literally go into the bios enable 4G reboot then start a zfs scrub
and instantly have crc errors pop up everywhere , reboot disable do a
scrub and it's all good , seems to only kick in when multiple disks are
in use

In the past ~2012 with my Gigabyte F2A85x-UP4 AMD A10 5800k I also had
data issues with IOMMU enabled ... never had issues with my intel i7
4790k build , so it could very well just be AMD IOMMU that is causing it
for me

[Bug 1823037] Re: amd_iommu possible data corruption

2019-12-17 Thread MasterCATZ
Running Ubuntu 19.10 5.4.3-050403-generic

Ryzen 3900x GA x570 UD mainboard DDR 3200 ,

I have been getting data corruption on my 4x SSD on Sata ports ( btrfs/ext4)
disks running from my LSI / Avago SAS Raid 9302-16e 12Gb/s PCIe 3.0 controller
(btrfs/EXT4)
and all my disks running from my HBA (zfs)

I started off with PCI-e gen 4 dropped it to gen 3 as that is what my
raid controller is as not using a NVMe yet

all 64 gig Memory test's good and HDD's test good if tested individually
anymore than 8 being accessed at a time they fail

being 3 separate controllers and multiple disks I am leading towards a
software issue and I remember having data issues before when I had my
a10-5800k and that was solved by disabling iommu , I had no issues with
this setup while running my intel 4790k

[Bug 1572392] Re: 14 LTS - 16 LTS Upgrade will not start

2016-09-13 Thread MasterCATZ
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Thanks for still looking into it
that may have been what I did

I think I purged the entire system , upgraded then reinstalled all pre-
installed packages

will see if Ubuntu 16.10 causes any upgrade problems next month

2016-04-19 Thread MasterCATZ
Public bug reported:

Calculating the changes

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:

* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

booted of live Disk still did it

it seems my mainboard bios update has done something

F2A85X UP4 using Firmware v4 killed it , so gone back to firmware V3 and got

data base that I forgotten to back up

[Bug 1160709] [NEW] display drops out if more then 2 displays are plugged in

2013-03-26 Thread MasterCATZ
Public bug reported:

A update done in the last week or so has rendered multimedia PC unusable

If I boot pc up with any more then 2x Monitors all I get are black
screens

if I boot up with 1x display all is good , if I turn on projector
picture then moves onto projector display corrupted

I have tried reinstalling xorg , unity , compiz

removed all custom xorg , lightdm settings I had and it still does this

Pc used to boot up onto a separate desktop per display

F7 was full desktop ( DVI )
F8 was XBMC ( on projector HDMI )
F9 was www guest account ( VGA )

workspace switcher used to expand out when other display's were turned on
any help to solve this is greatly appreciated , just give me the terminal
commands to get the info you need and I will do them

I am also about to try a FRESH install and see what happens

( upgrading to kernel 3.9rc4 also did not help )

RE: [Bug 1073384] Re: AMD-Vi: Completion-Wait loop timed out

2013-02-20 Thread MasterCATZ
well the good news is system still has no AMD-Vi: Completion-Wait loop timed out

also unsure how to test this to find out why its running with out the
performance gains IOMMU gave me before
I do have some spare HDD's I could use to try bench marking with with out using
ZFS to see if i can crash the system again with an older kernel and try and
replicate the IOMMU performance gains / loss's

pretty much the way ZFS worked it normally ramps up its speed
with out IOMMU it normally started at 14 mbs then ramped up to around 100mbs (
takes a couple of days with 16tb)
with IOMMU ( and the constant crashes ) it started around 100 mbs and ramped up
to 900 mbs doing scrubs ( took around a day and a few reboots with 16tb )or I
would bootup to FreeBSD ( which also had crashes so it looks like they have
similar issue )

normally just to crash it quickly I just had to play a bluray disk
whilst doing a srcub

verified IMMOU was indeed turned on

system is stable and no AMD-vi issue in the last few days but the
system no longer has the performance gains that enabling IMMOU had (
which was normally 10x the speed when accessing data )

[Bug 1073384] Re: AMD-Vi: Completion-Wait loop timed out

2012-12-24 Thread MasterCATZ
It has been running rock solid with IOMMU off

and I just rebooted now to turn IOMMU back on to see how it goes ( last
time it lasted a few days instead of minutes )

# uname -a
Linux aio 3.6.8-030608-generic #201211271040 SMP Tue Nov 27 15:41:16 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

this is the highest kernel I have been able to run whilst having zfs

its not really package related issue , I am unsure what actually
happened with the discussions about it beeing the bios / IOMMU or where
my log files got to

[Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-11-28 Thread MasterCATZ
Ubuntu 12.10

mine was fine until I tried enabling ati power save feature then the
flicker popped up and no matter what i have tried i can not get it to go
back to normal

even erased xorg.conf and tried purging xserver-xorg-video-*

echo dynpm > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
was all I did and even after reboot it defaulted back to profile / default
anyhow

if I install fglrx screen flicker stops

but because all I get is a black screen when i drop into terminals (
ALT + F1 ect ) and the when ever i turn of / on another monitor my
desktops get stuffed up i really want to use the open source drivers

lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI
Trinity [Radeon HD 7660D] [1002:9901]

 uname -a
Linux aio 3.6.5-030605-generic #201211011211 SMP Thu Nov 1 16:12:46 UTC 2012
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

currently thats the highest kernel version I can use as I need ZFS support
