[Bug 1406031] Re: Cannot connect to wifi having short password

2021-08-03 Thread Matej Kovacic
Sorry, this is just sick.

Bug reported and confirmed (!) in 2016, but still not resolved.

I confirm this bug still exists and is affecting me and other users. We
do not have control over WiFi, so we cannot change the password. But we
cannot use the WiFi, because of this bug.

[Bug 1883174] Re: Some (or all) desktop icons are missing

2021-06-05 Thread Matej Kovacic
Here we have a great example how bugs are being solved.

Since there was no good solution, I updated 20.04 to 20.10. Bug was
still there. Then I updated to 21.04 - and, voila, bug is not present
anymore.

So the solution is clear. Just wait till bugs dissapear by "natural
reasons"... or till users switch to some other operating system.

Great way to go, really.

Oh, of course not. This is not a solution. At all.

There is dependency of gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons to ubuntu-
desktop. Just perfect.

2021-06-03 Thread Matej Kovacic
This bug also affects me. I just can't believe what an ignorance from
the maintainers to not resolve this issue already.

Do we have a working solution yet or not?

Some report that "sudo apt remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons"
solves the problem, but others that this causes even more problems.

Can you advise me, because I do not want to have additional problems.

I really think this is a "real" bug ( I can't be sure but i think so).
So should I include more information, or make a new ticket? I can
definitely include the command history.

Thanks for your help

[Bug 1922509] Re: ssh doesn't work after stoping all open-vpn services

2021-04-09 Thread matej tichy
Hello, yeah I reproduced it every time completely fresh install only with
packages I had written down earlier.
And I just installed the VPN and configured some real basic things. And it just
won't work (the ssh). As I said, output of "netstat -tupan" was the same as on
"healthy" machine. Also, I checked with "nc -z -nv 127.0.0.1 20-80 " and it was
ok.

If you feel like it we can hop on voice chat so we don't have to write
everything(Just a suggestion, my English isn't perfect :D )

thanks

port, TCP/UDP, and name of the machine on the VPN.

[Bug 1922509] [NEW] ssh doesn't work after stoping all open-vpn services

2021-04-04 Thread matej tichy
Public bug reported:

-DESCRIPTION:
I installed and set the OpenVPN server according to the
guide:https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/howto-setup-openvpn-server-on-ubuntu-linux-14-04-or-16-04-lts/.
   However, after stopping all open-VPN services the ssh service is unable to
respond (ssh worked before I installed open-VPN).

-VERSION/RELEASE:
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Only following additional packages was installed:
OpenSSH 1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.2
openvpn 2.4.7-1ubuntu2
net-tools 1.60+git20180626.aebd88e-1ubuntu1

-HOW REPRODUCIBLE:
I managed to reproduce it several times but not on another machine.

-EXPECTED RESULTS:
When all OpenVPN services are stopped and the restart of ssh.service is done,
the ssh connection should be working on the default configuration.

-ACTUAL RESULTS:

After stopping all open-VPN services and restart the ssh.service the
server does not serve ssh connection well. The attempt to ssh from the
client fails with "Resource temporarily unavailable" message. The output
of netstat seems normal on the server.

-INFO:
I also installed net-tools 1.60+git20180626.aebd88e-1ubuntu1

-HOW TO REPRODUCE:
On a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, I installed Openssh-server, and it
worked flawlessly. Then I installed OpenVPN and set it following the guide.
After that, I restarted the server. Then I turned off the autostart of the
OpenVPN and stoped the process with "sudo systemctl stop OpenVPN". After that,
I found out that I couldn't ssh to the server and restart didn't help.

There is no cockpit user, this is normal user. I think we should connect
to both ` /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock` for system session and to
`$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/libvirt/libvirt-sock` for user session.

However I am no expert on our libvirt integration, so cannot really tell
if this is plausable or not.

libvirt0/focal-updates,focal-security,now 6.0.0-0ubuntu8.3 amd64
[installed,automatic]

$ ls -l /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock
srw-rw 1 root libvirt 0 Aug 12 08:21 /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock
```
This causes problems for applications, which are connection to this
socket. Doing `chmod o+rw /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock` fixes this
issue.
One of such applications is Cockpit and we noticed this on the latest
ubuntu VM refresh: https://github.com/cockpit-project/bots/pull/1137
2020-08-07 Thread Matej
I suppose that 1.75 breaks it. I have the same problem on Debian 10 Buster with
kernel 4.19.0-10-amd64 too. So I also don't think it's Ubuntu specific... I
have tried report it here, on kernel.org
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208783 and on bugs.debian.org
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=967934...
I think that report it on https://github.com/fwupd/firmware-lenovo-thinkpad is
good idea please try to report it there.
I have the same problem when I plugged my notebook only with original
[Bug 1890415] [NEW] Lenovo ThinkPad X390 won’t boot while plugged in
2020-08-05 Thread Matej
Public bug reported:
Hello. I’m using Lenovo ThinkPad X390 Yoga (model type: 20NN002NMC). I have
been using dual boot of the preinstalled Windows 10 x64 and Linux. I have tried
the latest versions of Ubuntu and Debian. About 6 weeks ago, after updating the
BIOS to N2LET76W 1.75 (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n2lur14w.txt)
and the Intel Management Engine Firmware (12.0.67.1579), an issue arose.
When I boot to Ubuntu 20.04.1 (kernel 5.4.0-42-generic) using the Grub
bootloader with active Secure Boot (fully supported), and then I turn the
notebook off or restart it in Ubuntu, it won’t turn back on – it won’t POST,
the screen is black, etc. After that time, I need to unplug the notebook from
the power adapter, or remove it from the dock, and it will boot on battery. But
it won’t boot while plugged in until it boots into Windows and is turned
off/restart from it. After booting to Windows, it works fine while plugged in,
until it is turned off in Ubuntu again. I have tried install recommend drivers
and software..
It looks like a BIOS/Firmware error related to power management. I’m using the
latest BIOS/Firmware updated via the official Lenovo software – Lenovo Vantage
(bios version 1.76). Notebook was sent to Lenovo for repairs, the motherboard
was replaced, yet the problem persists – hence thinking it’s BIOS/Firmware
related.
Lenovo claims it’s Linux’s issue, even though the list it as officially
supported (https://support.lenovo.com/sk/en/solutions/pd031426) and there refer
me to the community. Lenovo stuff inform me too, that this issue may be related
to requirements Windows 10 v2004.
Many thanks for your help.
[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates
2020-07-31 Thread Matej Kovacic
This is really amazing. I still have the same problem.
And yes, it is NOT triaged.
I have Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS. LibreOffice is version 6.0.7.3.
I would expect some things just work in 21tg century. But obviously, I
am wrong.
Maybe the problem is, that Ubuntu developers does not use encryption and
digital signatures? C'mon people, we are in 2020. How do you expect that
business will not use such things?
Or maybe Ubuntu is targeted for home playing only?
I have a very simple question: I am using Ubuntu version, which is still
officially supported. What should I do that I will be able to sign
LibreOffice documents and PDF's?
And would it be possible to link to the description of this API? Is it
documented somewhere on MDN? I am interested in the implementation on
FxOS/FxAndroid so lack of implementation on Desktop doesn’t bother me.
[Bug 1713238] Re: gufw will not open in ubuntu wayland 17.10
2018-01-25 Thread Matej Kovacic
The same problem here.
Anyway, I can understand Gufw cannot be run in current state from
Wayland. But is there any GUI for firewall in Ubuntu?
I mean, it is 2018, GUI is a must have and firewall is a standard
security package not intended for advanced users only!
[Bug 1726160] Re: On login, display rotates to wrong orientation [HP Pavilion]
2018-01-25 Thread Matej Kovacic
I have Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop and had the same problem. After reboot
(when there was login screen), screen was flickering and endless
changing rotation randomly. I managed to stop this by enabling external
screen (inserted miniHDMI-to-VGA cable into laptop).
However when I removed miniHDMI-to-VGA cable, flickering immediately
begins and laptop was not possible to use.
So I went to Settings - Devices - Screens, and found out I can change
default rotation of external screen, but cannot change default rotation
of laptop's screen!
Then I found "orientation lock" icon in system tray and screen stopped
rotating and flickering randomly. However, this was working only when I
has been logged in my account. Login screen was still rotating and
flickering randomly!
Fortunately, I was able to lock orientation in login screen also, and
now it works fine. Well, I must admit it did not just start to work when
I clicked "orientation lock" icon on login screen and as a loggined
user, I need to restart laptop SEVERAL TIMES.
However, I have a couple of questions.
First, why there is no option to disable screen rotation completely.
Second, why there is no option to set default screen rotation for
internal screen?
Third, does Ubuntu have a group of special UX people who are wondering
all day how to f**k their users??? I mean, this bug is a total blocker!
And a complete shame. When you are introducing new features - please do
it slow and with possibility to disable them.
[Bug 1682863] [NEW] PSX games not working
Public bug reported:
Gnome games discovers psx games, but when I try to start one, it says
Playstation system is not yet supported. When trying with flatpack
[Bug 875676] Re: Backing up fails with 'IOError CRC check failed'.
2017-01-30 Thread Matej Kovacic
No that it is not good. This is completely irresponsible and lame.
It is a shame, that so important software is a part of core Ubuntu
system. Canonical should reconsider using it. Because backup is critical
and if DejaDup is a part of a core system, people rely on it.
[Bug 875676] Re: Backing up fails with 'IOError CRC check failed'.
2016-10-14 Thread Matej Kovacic
I have the same error with DejaDup in Ubuntu 16.04.
I am trying to run a backup (not restore!), and got this error:
Ni mogoče brati /tmp/duplicity-gUZKem-tempdir/mktemp-jecFmU-5: (, IOError('CRC check failed 0x5528869f !=
0x2aeb4411L',), )
It is in slovenian, but it means:
Cannot read /tmp/duplicity-gUZKem-tempdir/mktemp-jecFmU-5: (, IOError('CRC check failed 0x5528869f != 0x2aeb4411L',),
)
I tried to delete .cache/deja-dup, but the error is still there.
I am doing a backup to a remote server via ssh. I have reported this
under another bug, but it seems it belongs here.
Anyway, I deleted a file "duplicity-new-
signatures.20161011T065304Z.to.20161013T050922Z.sigtar.gz" on a backup
server, and now it is working (however, it started a new backup). But
this is really bad.
And just another question - would it be possible for me to restore
backup in that case?
I used to have Kubuntu 14.10 and I did use your custom kernel back then.
Then my touchpad stopped working on that kernel (then I reported it in post
[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop
2015-05-06 Thread Matej
Pilot6,
Me neither... xD
But I am trying to understand all this...
I tried to boot into Kubuntu with kernel 3.16 (where my touchpad works even
without focaltech-dkms installed) and dumped my xorg log.
Log is here: http://pastebin.com/FvbUjdcD
Then I did the same on kernel 4.0.1.
Log is here: http://pastebin.com/u6GKmPtW
If you look at the bottom of both logs you will see a difference.
In 3.16 it applies touchpad InputClass, after that it loads synaptics_drv.so
module, and then detects it as a touchpad:
[ 5.422] (II) config/udev: Adding input device FocalTechPS/2 FocalTech
FocalTech Touchpad (/dev/input/event5)
[ 5.422] (**) FocalTechPS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad: Applying
InputClass evdev touchpad catchall
...
[ 5.422] (II) LoadModule: synaptics
[ 5.422] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so
...
[ 5.524] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device FocalTechPS/2 FocalTech
FocalTech Touchpad (type: TOUCHPAD, id 14)
In 4.0.1 kernel it applies pointer InputClass, it does not load synaptics
module, it uses evdev input driver,  and then detects it as a mouse:
[ 5.349] (II) config/udev: Adding input device PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech
Touchpad (/dev/input/event5)
[ 5.349] (**) PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech Touchpad: Applying InputClass evdev
pointer catchall
[ 5.349] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech
Touchpad'
...
[ 5.349] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device PS/2 FocalTech
FocalTech Touchpad (type: MOUSE, id 14)
Is there a way I can tell it to load synaptics module and use touchpad
InputClass (not pointer)?
2015-05-06 Thread Matej
Pilot6,
Yes. Evdev is used instead of synaptics.
It is the same with 3.19 kernel (with driver installed). So i Googled and I
found one user reporting that it is working on 4.0.1 kernel.
That is the only reason.
I'll try and boot into 3.19 again and try to reinstall focaltech-dkms,
and check out the xorg log just to verify that it is all the same as on
4.0.1 kernel.
[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop
2015-05-06 Thread Matej
Pilot6,
I booted into Kubuntu with kernel 3.19, then installed focaltech-dkms, and then
rebooted again.
Results are the same as on kernel 4.0.1. Xorg.log gives the same output (using
evdev instead of synaptics and detecting touchpad as a mouse).
Full kernel version is: 3.19.0-16-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 30 16:09:58
UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I just don't understand...
Shouldn't it work on 4.0 without the driver, on 3.19 with the driver and not
work on 3.16 without the driver?
Currently it only works on 3.16 without the driver.
[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop
2015-05-05 Thread Matej
Well this is just great... xD
I am really confused right now.
So I updated my Kubuntu from 14.10 to 15.04.
Touchpad worked fine with the kernel version 3.16.0-33-generic.
It was working for a while and then I performed an update with:
sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get upgrade  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
And I got the new kernel version: 3.19.0-16-generic
After the update/upgrade my touchpad doesn't work anymore.
Then I tried installing kernel version: 4.0.1-040001-generic
Still doesn't work.
I don't know what am I doing wrong here.
Now my System Settings - Ponting devices - Touchpad says Synaptics driver is
not installed (or is not used) again.
And if I enter the command  synclient I get this error message:  Couldn't
find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?.
The xorg log (command: cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log) got my eye on this:
[ 4.901] (II) config/udev: Adding input device PS/2 FocalTech FocalTech
Touchpad (/dev/input/mouse0)
[ 4.901] (II) No input driver specified, ignoring this device.
[ 4.901] (II) This device may have been added with another device file.
Full output is here: http://pastebin.com/N78EWUYc
And under my /dev/input/ directory I have 3 mouse files (mouse0, mouse1 and
mouse2) all with the size of 0 bytes.
My assumption is that mouse0 is (or should be) the touchpad, mouse1 my real USB
mouse, and mouse2 my other real USB mouse that I plugged in my PC on my other
USB port.
Anyways... Can anyone help me? How can I get this to finally work? :(
My PC unusable like this...
Oh... and one more thing...
I forgot to mention that I tried reinstalling xorg like this:
sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
It didn't help.
I also tried sudo apt-get install focaltech-dkms just in case, but I had that
And I tried booting now with old 3.16 kernel and touchpad is working again.
Why? :/
Why can't I get it to work on 4.0.1 or 3.19?
[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop
2015-04-19 Thread Matej
Hi!
I need help.
I read this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2253069page=9
I am using Kubuntu 14.10 on my Asus UX303LAB.
My kernel is: Linux UX303LA 3.16.0-34-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 10
18:02:58 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I cannot install this:
https://launchpad.net/~hanipouspilot/+archive/ubuntu/focaltech-dkms/
Reason: no utopic folder under dists in repository.
If I change the dist to trusty in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/hanipouspilot-ubuntu-focaltech-dkms-utopic.list it
gives me an error (about unmet dependencies - requires kernel 3.19...).
If I change the dist to vivid in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/hanipouspilot-ubuntu-focaltech-dkms-utopic.list it
would install but after reboot (or sudo modprobe -r psmouse  sudo modprobe
psmouse) in System Settings - Input devices - Touchpad it still says Synaptics
driver is not installed (or is not used).
Then I removed the focaltech-dkms package and tried to install this:
https://github.com/markmandel/psmouse-focaltech-dkms
This solution won't work either (the same message in System settings -
Synaptics driver is not installed (or is not used)).
What can I do? I cannot work on my laptop because I have no gestures, and I
cannot turn off the touchpad while the mouse is plugged in and I keep
(accidentally) touching it and it messes up my work...
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance! :)
2014-10-13 Thread Matej Kenda
BIOS on the laptop was updated to version F.50 (the latest).
The behaviour is worst as with previous BIOS: the disk fails to connect
even on the first attempt after booting.
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2014-10-10 Thread Matej Kenda
Thanks, Christopher. I will update BIOS on the laptop and report the
results.
I think that there are small chances that this would help, though
because the same problem is reproducible on two other computers as well.
  newer kernel resolves the problem. Unfortunatelly it does not.
[Bug 1378401] Re: External USB3 hard drive fails to connect (JMicron bridge 152d:0569)
2014-10-08 Thread Matej Kenda
Latest 3.17 kernel was installed on Utopic to test this problem.
Behaviour is the same.
External HD is recognised only first one or two times after booting the
system.
Similar errors as with previous kernels are reported in dmesg then. I
noticed that they slightly differ if the disk is connected directly to
USB 3 port or through USB 2 powered hub.
The disk in this enclosure works properly  when connected to MacBook Pro
laptop.
[Bug 1378401] [NEW] External USB3 hard drive fails to connect (JMicron bridge 152d:0569)
2014-10-07 Thread Matej Kenda
Public bug reported:
A Hitachi 2.5 disk in USB 3 disk enclosure with JMicron chip fails to
be connected on Ubuntu Trusty.
The same system was booted with Utopic Unicorn Beta 2 to verify whether
newer kernel resolves the problem. Unfortunatelly it does not.
The disk was properly recognised only the first time it was attached.
2014-10-07 Thread Matej Kenda
@Brad: Does the attached output from ubuntu-bug linux contain sufficient
information or is it better to use apport-collect?
@Joseph: I booted from DVD. I'll try to make bootable flash disk and
install latest kernel as you suggested.
Yes, the files are from remote server, of course.
After reboot, the result is the same (system started with updated
[Bug 1324393] [NEW] Force off fails with Permission denied after upgrading to 14.04
2014-05-29 Thread Matej Kenda
Public bug reported:
We have an Ubuntu server (64-bit) that host multiple virtual machines
(mostly Linux).
The server is managed remotely using virt-manager.
Both machines (client and server) were recently upgraded from 13.10 to
14.04.
I noticed that shutting down the VM gets stuck at the state Powering
off. The VM process on the host does not end: it needs to be killed
with sudo.
Using Force Off in virt-manager fails and displays a window with the
following stacktrace:
Error shutting down domain: Failed to terminate process 5170 with
SIGTERM: Permission denied
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/asyncjob.py, line 96, in cb_wrapper
if ret == -1: raise libvirtError ('virDomainDestroy() failed', dom=self)
libvirtError: Failed to terminate process 5170 with SIGTERM: Permission denied
I checked dmesg on the host for suspicious entries. There are a lot of
lines like this:
When searching for a similar issue, I came across a Fedora bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=975065
I am not sure if this is related.
[Bug 1292143] Re: 'ldapdeleteuser' does not remove user from additional LDAP groups
2014-04-01 Thread matej pastor
** Summary changed:
- 'ldapdeleteuser' does not remove user from all LDAP groups
+ 'ldapdeleteuser' does not remove user from additional LDAP groups
** Description changed:
  I have created LDAP posixAccount user and put him in additional group.
  After deleting this user, he still remain in this additional group. It
- can be security issue, if additional group is e.g. sudoers group,
- because if same user is created, he is automaticly member of this group.
+ is security issue, if additional group is e.g. sudoers group, because if
+ same user is created, he is automaticly member of this group.
