[Bug 1480920] [NEW] Black screen on monitor connected via Mini Display Port

2015-08-03 Thread Mathieu Alorent
Public bug reported:

I'm on Dell XPS 13 2015 edition, since about two weeks, my second
monitor connected via Mini Display Port doesn't work well ; ie the
screen led report it as on, the Settings - Display tools detect it
successfully, screen is extended, BUT screen stay black.

Sometimes, while I'm working (with the black screen on the second
monitor), the second monitor woke up. I can use it, but after automatic
screen turn off (while I'm away), the second screen doesn't woke up.

If I disconnect-reconnect, the mini display port, nothing happens, and
Xorg.0.log doesn't detect something (this is why I've opened the bug on
linux-image-generic and not on Xorg).

I would be happy to find my second display working again, and help to fix the
problem.
Please, let me know how I can help, report, test, etc...

[Bug 674417] Re: unable to get logs either in daemon nor foreground

2010-11-15 Thread Mathieu Alorent
Hi Chuck,

As suggested, I've tried to add '-vvv' directly in the upstart job.

now it looks like :
exec /usr/sbin/in.tftpd -vvv --listen --user ${TFTP_USERNAME} --address
${TFTP_ADDRESS} ${TFTP_OPTIONS} ${TFTP_DIRECTORY}

then:
sudo service tftpd-hpa stop
sudo service tftpd-hpa start

but still the same issue :(

My guess is that it has nothing to do with upstart as if I launch tftpd-hpa
manually with foreground option
(/usr/sbin/in.tftpd -vvv --foreground --user tftp --address 172.31.20.5:69
--secure -vvv -m /srv/tftp/remap /srv/tftp/fai) I don't get any log output too.

[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)

2010-10-07 Thread Mathieu Alorent
My morning thoughts about Default behavior for missing part set to
nobootwait : in my opinion, this should not be done ! As if you are in
production system, your machine should only start if all prerequisites
are satisfied. Imagine what happens if you have /usr missing, with all
programs that should start, like apache, mysql, etc

dblade: you said This also major issue on servers with remote only
access where interactive prompts would not be desired anyway, I have
just tested what happens with Debian Etch if there is wrong (missing)
devices in /etc/fstab : system don't boot, problem with fsck (the
superblock could not be read...). Same behavior on Hardy.

I think that if users really want to boot with missing parts, they
should explicitly add nobootwait to concerned fstab lines.

So for me:
* wait for user to press S/M is NOT a bug
* missing splash in grub2 conf IS a bug, that don't let users see why their
system won't boot
* Press S or M does not work for more than one partition on error IS a bug (LP:
#655616)

[Bug 655616] [NEW] Press S or M does not work for more than one partition on error

2010-10-06 Thread Mathieu Alorent
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mountall

On 10.04 Lucid Server/Desktop installations, if a filesystem that is
specified in /etc/fstab cannot be mounted for some reason (USB disk not
connected, partition deleted, samba share not available etc.) the boot
process hangs displaying Press S to Skip or M for Manual recovery.

It works when there is only one partition on error, but with more than
one, during the second message, pressing S/M does nothing and boot
process hang there.

As seen in bug #571444, a workaround is to press alt-sysrq-i and edit
your fstab to remove missing drives.

This bug looks like bug #571444, but on #571444 there is another issue
which is about no plymouth theme, so no message displayed. That's why
I've opened a new bug specifically for Press S or M does not work for
more than one partition on error problem.

I've found when trying to debug/trace the problem that the problem come
from plymouth_answer function at lines 3037/3038.

the test :
if ((plymouth_mnt != NULL)  (plymouth_mnt-error != plymouth_error))
return;
is true as plymouth_mnt-error variable as been reset to ERROR_NONE

I'll post a patch.

For the specific problem : Press s to skip the missing filesystem and
continue booting. - This workaround only works for the first missing
drive. For more missing drives press alt-sysrq-i and edit your fstab to
remove missing drives

Please see bug #655616, I've made a patch and built a new package, could

2010-10-06 Thread Mathieu Alorent
@dvdb: my case was about NFS mounts, I'll try with your config

@dblade: yes, the patch allow me to press S to skip more than just the first
missing drive, my case was on NFS mount point.
@dblade: about the messages not displayed, we've got this problem too when we
started to install our servers (via FAI), I can't remember how we correct
this... I'll check and keep you informed. Maybe it was because
plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text wasn't installed.
@dblade: I'll try to see if I could change default behavior to nobootwait
instead of bootwait as you suggest. But will it be accepted by Ubuntu team ?

@bvdb: I've tested with your mount points and I was able to skip all
partitions

Here is an extract of my fstab:

inexistant.machine:/var/opt/hosting/data/var/opt/hosting/data   nfs
defaults0   0
inexistant.machine:/var/opt/hosting/toto/var/opt/hosting/toto nfs
defaults0   0

LABEL=BACK_SG /backsg auto defaults 0 0
LABEL=BACK_WD /backwd auto defaults 0 0

# dpkg -l |grep mountall
ii  mountall
2.15.3~kumy1 filesystem mounting tool

I'll do some more test with a fresh reinstall

[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)

2010-10-06 Thread Mathieu Alorent
@dvdb: for the missing splash screen, you just need to add splash to
your grub conf !

edit /etc/default/grub

modifiy line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

then regen grub's conf (update-grub2)

that does the trick for me :)

Also, I've tested my patched mountall, and I was able to skip the tree
lines you specified (/images , /backsg , /backwd), that were NOT
existant on my system.

Now just need to have nobootwait the default behavior...

[Bug 527666] Re: Waiting for /some/partition [SM]

2010-04-23 Thread Mathieu Alorent
We still experience this bug on lucid today. Bootchart shows that the
boot stalls on mountall.

The system boots in some cases, so it is possible to compare OK and KO
cases. Attached are:

* The two bootcharts (OK and KO) ;
* The two mountall --debug logs (OK and KO);
* Our /etc/fstab

The bootcharts clearly show that mountall is the process blocking the
boot with LVM (until we press 'S' or 'M'). In the KO case, the mountall
debug logs read:

  Received SIGUSR1 (network device up)
  try_mount: /WOO waiting for device

which seems to be blocking all the depending mounts.

From what I see, the ppa build fixes the buffer to listen to udev.
However, the udev logs don't even list the missing devices
(/var/log/udev) which makes us think that udev itself doesn't know about
the device.

lvscan, however, sees it fine.

[Bug 246100] Re: [upstream] Unable to digitally sign document

2009-06-08 Thread Mathieu Alorent
The more relevant bug I've found is
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=97411

The bug is closed with comments

I'm pretty sure we fixed this on the way to 3.1 in passing while making
signatures just work out of the box for distro-builds

Should be good in 3.1. If not (and behaves differently on 32bit vs 64bit, then
reopen)

[Bug 357633] [NEW] Unable to send an S/MIME encrypted message to alternative address to a person who own a certificate with multiple emails

2009-04-08 Thread Mathieu Alorent
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Please describe the problem:
I have a contact whom holds a s/MIME certificate with multiple emails.

I can send him encrypted messages only to his last listed address in his
subject certificate's.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Receive/generate a contact certificate with multiple registered emails
2. Try sending an S/MIME encrypted message to alternative address

Actual results:
I got this message :
Could not create message
Because Cannot find certificate for 'u...@foo.bar', you may need to select
different mail options.

Expected results:
Evolution should find that I actually have a client certificate that contains
the e-mail address and encrypt the message.

Does this happen every time?
Yes, every time I try to send an encrypted mail to an alternative address of
a Client certificate.

Other information:
The field value of incriminated contact certificate subject field contains:
E = a...@abc.abc
E = u...@foo.bar
E = x...@yyy.zzz
CN = Test User

Here, I can send email to x...@yyy.zzz, but others does not.

[Bug 73544] Re: enabled desktop effects window decoration

2007-09-22 Thread Mathieu ALORENT
I had my window decoration active until found something about active
plugins

If I activate Normal Effects I get no active plugins
$ gconftool --get /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins
[]

I then activate Extra effects
$ gconftool --get /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins
[ring,blur,wobbly]

I manually activate some modules..
gconftool --set /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins -t
string
[ccp,gconf,svg,png,decoration,crashhandler,annotate,screenshot,clone,showdesktop,move,place,resize,switcher,minimize,scale]

And I get my window decoration, moveable window...

I think that Normal effects has an empty list and should be corrected
as if I enable Extra Effects again i lost my others activateed plugins..
$ gconftool --get /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins
[ring,blur,wobbly]

[Bug 144046] [gnome-appearance-properties] Desktop Effect, normal mode does nothing

2007-09-22 Thread Mathieu ALORENT
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The desktop normal effects option reset my config to no plugins
And the extra effects reset to ring,blur,wobbly only

step to reproduce
1. Set the desktop effects to No effects
2. I set a list of active plugins : gconftool --set
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins -t string
[ccp,dbus,place,move,resize,decoration,png,svg,imgjpeg,text,neg,video,wall,snap,fade,animation,scale,expo,switcher,regex,resizeinfo,workarounds,ezoom,vpswitch,extrawm,ring,blur,wobbly]
3. Activate Normal Effects, choose keep settings
4. check what is done : gconftool --get
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins (actually I get [] :
noplugins)
5. Set Desktop effects to Extra effects
6. check what is done : gconftool --get
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins (actually I get
[ring,blur,wobbly])

I think that activate Normal Effects should set some plugins

This is a fresh install of gusty tribe 5 with updates to 09.21

[Bug 98553] network-admin doesn't use my wep key

2007-03-29 Thread Mathieu ALORENT
Public bug reported:

Hi,

First of all, this bug may be a duplicate of bug #80499 or #67152...

I tried to configure my wifi network by using network-admin instead of
network-manager. (NM works fine, but typing the password to unlock the
access to the wep key is not good for my mother...)

When I start the computer, the network is not working, sudo iwconfig
doesn't show the wep key and no IP address is given. Same behaviour if I
unplug/plug the dongle...

[Bug 89010] filter with set color move folder

2007-03-01 Thread Mathieu ALORENT
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi,

I need to do a filter witch will set a color and move the messages to
another folder.

The problem is that the color is set but when the message move to the
other folder, the color is reset.

Step to reproduce :

1. Create a new filter on any criteria you want
2. In action part, choose set a color and select for exemple red
3. Add a new action : move to another folder and save...

4. try to send a message that will match your filter...

Actual result :
The message in inbox is set to red, then move to the other folder. And the
color is the default one...

Expected result :
The message should be moved to the other folder with the red color...
