[Bug 1858152] Re: fstrim.service no longer trims /home partition

2020-01-17 Thread Matt Vickers
I can confirm this bug. Viewing systemd logs on my system showed the
weekly TRIM of /home stopped around the end of October 2019 as reported
by Jeffery.

This bug was filed upstream (https://github.com/karelzak/util-
linux/issues/824) and will affect users with /home on a separate
partition.

It was patched with the following one-line commit
c64d452b3eb85fe55e238144082247b05cc143ea:
-ProtectHome=yes
+ProtectHome=read-only

[Bug 1033226] Re: No close option, only restart

2013-03-23 Thread Matt Vickers
From my perusal of the comments, I don't think anybody has mentioned
this particular option yet.

Restart -- Remind me later -- Don't remind me again

This might be a good short-term solution. As discussed, there's a tricky
balance with how long you make the interval between repeat nagging, and
making sure the user is actually reminded. With this proposed solution,
the user opts in to whatever repeat nagging interval we set, but also
has the option of opting-out.

I also agree with the comment about the shutdown menu button (top right
of screen) becoming red acting as a more subtle reminder.

The current behaviour it far too reminiscent of Windows update suddenly
getting in the way (and threatening to reboot in 30 seconds) during the
middle of a presentation.

[Bug 756082] Re: KMyMoney tooltips are blacked out

2011-04-10 Thread Matt Vickers
I am also seeing this on 10.10 using the Ambience theme. Specifically,
the tooltip background is black and the text is dark grey, making it
unreadable. The text should be white as per the theme settings.

If you change the theme (and then change it back) whilst the program is
running, the tooltips will work correctly again. Each fresh start of the
program sees a return of the problem.

I have also seen this in other QT applications under Gnome (eg. Skype)
so this bug might lie somewhere other than with KMyMoney. I just haven't
been able to find the right bug.

[Bug 697498] Re: [Realtek ALC269VB] No sound from internal speakers, but headphone jack works

2011-04-03 Thread Matt Vickers
I just experienced the same issue on a similar machine (Asus 1015P)
with the same ALC269VB chip on an up-to-date Natty and the suspend trick
worked. What was disturbing though is that the issue had persisted for
several reboots, modification of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, alsa
force-reloads and a boot into Windows (where the speakers worked).

I'd be quite interested in tracking down what actually causes the issue
and how it can be fixed but don't really know where to start given I had
no success with the usual alsa configuration methods, including
alsamixer.

[Bug 657196] [NEW] Unity menu does not reflect change in gcalctool mode

2010-10-08 Thread Matt Vickers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

OS Version: Maverick RC
Unity version: 0.2.46-0ubuntu4

Steps to reproduce:
1) Login to netbook session
2) Open the calculator (gcalctool)
3) Click 'Mode' on the unity menu and select a different mode

Expected results: gcalctool will change mode and bullet point in menu
will shift to selected mode.

Actual result: gcalctool changes mode, bullet point indicator stays in
the original position.

Upon further trials I noticed that the bullet point always reflects the
mode gcalctool was in when it was most recently started. Thus, if you
change to scientific, close the program and open it again, the menu will
persistently show 'Scientific'.

Working in an Ubuntu Desktop session gcalctool reflects mode changes in
its menu.

[Bug 219080] Re: [Regression] Evince prints pages in a strange order

2008-04-18 Thread Matt Vickers
Confirmed.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open pdf in Evince
2. File Print Page Setup Pages per slide = 4 (Note, diagram that appears
resembles Table 2 by Tim Fuchs)
3. Output = Table 1 from Tim.

This seems to apply to portrait, landscape, reverse portrait and reverse
landscape print setups.

Have attached an open access pdf journal article for an example. More freely
available examples can be found at the Journal for the International Society of

[Bug 151145] Re: Evince print fails with Postscript driver

2008-04-03 Thread Matt Vickers
It now seems fixed/almost fixed. The first PDF I tried (see below) took
a very long time between data being sent and a page coming out. Each
subsequent page also took some time and the last three didn't print at
all (duplex on). However I tried another PDF of similar size and it
printed quite quickly with no missing pages - also with duplex. Perhaps
the slow printing, for whatever reason it occurred, caused a timeout and
thus left the last pages off. Nothing in the cups log to indicate why it
failed.

After that, I printed an image with EOG, it was fast and successful.

Thanks for taking a look Sebastien.

I attempted to print with eog, but exactly the same problem was
exhibited, the printer received data but never printed. Switching
drivers again worked. It is beginning to look like OpenOffice is the odd
one out in that it WILL print.

Obviously it's not only evince's problem, so thanks for helping get
closer to the cause. I haven't had experience troubleshooting printing
much before, so please let me know how to help and I will keep trying.

[Bug 151145] Evince print fails with Postscript driver

2007-10-09 Thread Matt Vickers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Printer: Brother HL-1850

Driver: Foomatic/Postscript (Recommended)

Problem: Printing a pdf from evince results in data being sent to the printer
(as evidenced by status light on printer), but the file is never printed. There
is an eventual timeout where the job disappears from the queue and the printer
data light stops. This occurs with numerous settings (duplex on/off etc) and
running evince as root makes no difference.
However, with the same driver and settings, no such problem occurs printing a
document from OOo Writer or Impress presentation.

Selecting a different driver from the list such as hpijs or HL1250
allows printing with evince, but not exactly as desired (duplex and
resolution problems). The BRScript-3 (for HL1850N) driver displays the
same problem as the Postscript driver.

Postscript is the recommended driver and has worked perfectly under
previous releases.

I'm unable to tell whether the problem is with evince or the driver, but
since it works from other programs I'm assuming evince.

Only one error in the logs, but this occurs even when a job does print
so seems not relevant to the problem.

[Bug 72262] Re: Form Wizard in Base does not complete

2007-03-19 Thread Matt Vickers
Looking at the Debian bug report, the final comment (2 months old) seems
to indicate that Fedora use GCJ also, but don't experience the problem.
As suggested, it might not even be the fact that Debian/Ubuntu isn't
built with Sun's Java that causes the problem.

Unfortunately that doesn't help us much, as still we don't know where
the problem lies.

[Bug 72262] Re: Form Wizard in Base does not complete

2007-03-15 Thread Matt Vickers
Still exists in openoffice.org 2.2.0rc3oof680m10-0ubuntu3, Thu Mar 8
14:02.

This is the latest in Feisty at the time if writing.

If there's any simply debugging that can be done to help find a solution
let me know. This really should work on a clean Feisty install with no
extra packages.

Matt
