[Bug 443330] Re: USB Creator does not warn or ask user to confirm before formatting disks

2012-10-10 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
While I agree that this bug is severe, losing person's most important
data is the fault of this person itself. It is irresponsible beyond
imagination to keep all such important things just in one place. There
are loads of things that could happen to that drive beyond formatting it
by mistake; most of all, drives just brake from time to time. Keeping
two copies is an absolute minimum and I personally tend to keep my
really most important data at least in 3 places, one of which is not the
drive I keep at home.

It amazes me that so many people are still making this very same huge
mistake.

[Bug 989997] [NEW] Font rendering errors in Firefox

2012-04-27 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Under Ubuntu 12.04 I get frequently font rendering errors in Firefox (currently
12.0). The example site is:
http://www.spidersweb.pl/2012/04/ubuntu-12-04-oficjalnie-potezny-dopracowany-system.html
a screenshot from it showing the problem attached.

The problem for a specific tab is usually gone after marking buggy text
with a mouse, switching to another app and back etc. However, it's back
after reloading a page.

[Bug 989216] [NEW] Polish keys (Alt+a, e, o, etc.) don't work in Firefox bookmark pop-up

2012-04-26 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Turn on the Polish keyboard
2) Go to a chosen page and click a bookmark star
3) Click into any field in a pop-up and press right Alt

Effect:
The pop-up disappears immediately, even before I release the Alt key

Expected effect:
I should be able to get Polish letters by pressing a letter after I pressed Alt
but I can't since the pop-up is already gone.

[Bug 979004] Re: External display is not enabled correctly (Dell S2409W connected via VGA)

2012-04-20 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
I checked with my co-worker's screen (BENQ G2220HD) and it works
correctly with it now. So this is display-dependent. But it would be a
really rare coincidence if the screen was just broken in a way as it
worked before I upgraded to 12.04.

In System Settings - Displays.

[Bug 979004] [NEW] Xorg freezes or an external display is not handled correctly

2012-04-11 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded (I did a clean install, just without erasing /home)
from 10.04 to 12.04 (both 64-bit) I can't reliably connect an external
display.

I tried it with the same screen (Dell S2409W connected via VGA) and experienced
these different situations (I guess behaviour might have changed due to some
upgrades to X.org-related packages):
Previously:
1) Preferences - Display panel hangs (after rebooting I configured the
external screen using xrandr and it worked)
2) After disconnecting the display system sometimes hung, requiring hard reboot
(Ctrl+Alt+F1 didn't work)
Now:
1) Even if I enable the external screen in Prefenreces - Display, the virtual
screen is not widened, nothing shows on the external display as well
2) Configuring an external screen using xrandr:
$ xrandr --auto --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1080 --right-of LVDS1
$ xrandr --auto --output LVDS1 --mode 1440x900 --left-of VGA1
makes the virtual screen wider but still nothing shows on an external display.
3) Sometimes experimenting with both xrandr and Preferences - Display applet
causes the OS to hang

I am currently unable to make this external display work, being forced
to only use the internal laptop one.

2012-04-11 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
I've added the PPA, fully upgraded my OS, rebooted to the new kernel and
the issue still stays. I can't (so far) make my computer to freeze in
this way but still nothing is sent to an external screen although Ubuntu
detects it and claims it's set.

[Bug 780970] [NEW] GDB: internal problem detected (thread.c:598: internal-error)

2011-05-11 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdb

I often experience many issues involving how Netbeans handle C++
projects. First of all, it sometimes (randomly) chooses not to activate
the Step into global option and I can't just press F7 to start
debugging, I have to right-click the project (which is set as main
project!) and click Step into.

Secondly, very often clicking Step into makes Netbeans point me at the
end of my few short functions (actually, at the end of the first one)
and nothing works, neither Step into nor Step over. Restarting the
debugger doesn't help, I have to restart Netbeans and re-add all my
watches...

The error message that shows up in debugging window of Netbeans is:
~/build/buildd/gdb-7.2/gdb/thread.c:598: internal-error: is_thread_state:
Assertion `tp' failed.\nA problem internal to GDB has been detected,\nfurther
debugging may prove unreliable.\nQuit this debugging session?

~/build/buildd/gdb-7.2/gdb/thread.c:598: internal-error: is_thread_state:
Assertion `tp' failed.\nA problem internal to GDB has been detected,\nfurther
debugging may prove unreliable.\nCreate a core file of GDB?
~(y or n) [answered Y; input not from terminal]\n

I originally reported the bug to Netbeans:
http://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=198498
but it seems it's not their issue.
It really hampers writing performance, so I consider it critical.

anything beside moving the mouse pointer around, only restarting gdm
works.

BTW, for now it seems I don't get this error when the fullscreen app has

[Bug 775936] [NEW] Render error with Intel GMA graphics card

2011-05-02 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I've upgraded to Natty a few days ago. Since that time, each boot ends with
this messages:
[ 23.910681] render error detected, EIR: 0x0010
[ 23.910689] IPEIR: 0x
[ 23.910692] IPEHR: 0x
[ 23.910694] INSTDONE: 0xfffe
[ 23.910697] INSTPS: 0x
[ 23.910699] INSTDONE1: 0x
[ 23.910702] ACTHD: 0x
[ 23.910705] page table error
[ 23.910707] PGTBL_ER: 0x0010
[ 23.910711] [drm:i915_report_and_clear_eir] *ERROR* EIR stuck: 0x0010,
masking

System then starts and works correctly but very often DOSBox run in
fullscreen after exiting locks up the desktop screen (even though the
process is gone, I still see the window, panel stop refreshing, I see a
mouse cursor but I can't click anything etc.). Switching to tty1 and
back makes it show last shown tty1 contents - as if X lost the ability
to refresh the screen. The only way to recover is to reboot or restart
the gdm service.

I use Ubuntu Classic desktop with Compiz. I had such problems neither in
Lucid nor in Maverick before.

[Bug 600463] Re: Bash auto-completion for apt-get aptitude shows non-existent packages

2011-02-28 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
What I'm saying is that it's useless to display such packages in auto-
completion so it should be changed.

I tried to add an --installable option to pkgnames but it didn't seem
to help.

[Bug 709277] [NEW] gecko-mediaplayer crashes in it's gecko-mediaplayer-wmp.so Windows Media Player module

2011-01-28 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gecko-mediaplayer

gecko-mediaplayer crashes the whole Firefox in it's gecko-mediaplayer-wmp.so
Windows Media Player module, for example when going to this site:
http://www.polskieradio.pl/9,Trojka
Disabling it in plugins tab of Tools-Add-ons, other gecko-mediaplayer plugins
seems fine so far.

I discovered this issue when I used Flashblock, disabling Flashblock
surprisingly helps so I thought it's their bug but it seems the other way.
Almost all of my Mozilla crash records on this site look like this one:
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-81b363dd-9305-4135-8f49-f76892110128

2011-01-28 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
I tried to add two watches but I couldn't do it for the same package. I
chose MPlayer but now I can't change it to gecko-mediaplayer.

Why it's not possible to add two upstream watches?

[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor

2011-01-23 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
@Thomas Weiler
This 8% is not everything, if I switch to the Resources tab I see CPU usage
of about 15-20% on each core which is a lot considering I'm not running
anything computionally complex. On my older laptop it was a lot more than this
15-20%, it reached 50-70% IIRC. Besides, it's not only a g-s-m process, Xorg
also counts as it suffers from excessive calls from g-s-m. Each a few seconds/a
minute there is also a peak: g-s-m to about 25%, Xorg to about 50%.

You obviously have a different issue so if you want to report it create
a separate bug report.

2011-01-23 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
@Thomas Weiler
Maybe you're right but that would mean most of alleged dups should be
un-dupped, look at their description.

Besides, if you look at the bugzilla report:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524830
you'll see they claim that the problem is caused by some inefficient updating
of the structure displayed so it should not mess up with top. Still, I think
this is a different issue, if it somehow happened to be the same it's always
possible to mark it as a duplicate then.

[Bug 697804] [NEW] Aptitude doesn't respect my order not to upgrade particular packages

2011-01-05 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aptitude

I have wine and wine-gecko versions from Karmic as in Lucid versions there is a
bug causing Heroes of Might and Magic III to crash:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20380
It worked till today, now aptitude wants to upgrade these packages. When I
invoke:
$ sudo aptitude install wine= wine-gecko=
then the first invocation of:
$ sudo aptitude update sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
ends without a notice about wine update. However, the second attempt asks about
it.

It worked correctly before so either sth changed and I haven't noticed
it or there is some kind of regression.

[Bug 496265] Re: Deluge shows non-zero download rates even if file is already downloaded

It's the same as for downloading from seeds - they seem to have non-zero
download speed. I guess Deluge counts also control data, not only the
actual files. I don't think it's a good idea to show these numbers
summed up, but maybe it was intended.

[Bug 647472] [NEW] uptime counts time spend in suspend

2010-09-25 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: procps

According to man, amongst other things uptime shows how long the system
has been running. This is not true in the case of suspending the
computer, as uptime counts the time spend in suspend as uptime time. In
this way one can turn on a computer, put it to sleep for a week and then
go back from suspend and uptime will show them the whole 7 days of
uptime.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-09-04 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
@Dylan McCall
The default themes now have a _considerably large_ hotspot for resizing on
 all four corners
 of every window.

No, they're not. I checked in gnome-terminal and slightly moving up the
mouse pointer from bottom-right corner makes it lose the ability to
resize the window.

Besides, if You don't want people to resize by clicking on borders and
moving, disable it completely and adapt OS X method here. The current
behaviour is unacceptable.

[Bug 604832] Re: Many menu icons are not visible in Firefox

2010-07-14 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
I don't get it. Icons help with understanding which position what means.
Visual recognition is far faster than looking for names. Any other OS I
know use menus icons, including other Linuxes.

Anyway, thanks for redirecting to another bug; at least now I know how
to re-enable this feature...

[Bug 604832] [NEW] Many menu icons are not visible in Firefox

2010-07-12 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Many menu icons in Firefox/Thunderbird are not visible (e.g. those in
File and Tools menu), as well as icons in menus added by extensions (as
Firefox Sync and Video DownloadHelper). The same behaviour exhibit
official Mozilla Linux builds.

However, this issue is not caused by Linux or GNOME themselves as my
Arch Linux VirtualBox doesn't experience this problem.

[Bug 603398] [NEW] Firefox Sync 1.4 doesn't connect automatically on Ubuntu 10.04 with fresh Firefox and Firefox Sync profiles, both with Ubuntu custom build and with the official Mozilla one

2010-07-08 Thread Michał Gołębiowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox Sync 1.4 doesn't connect automatically after starting a browser.

Reproducible: Always - confirmed with both Ubuntu custom build and
Mozilla one, with fresh Firefox and Firefox Sync profiles (no other
extensions installed)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Firefox
2. Go to Tools - Sync
3.
Actual Results:
The field Connect is active, indicating that Firefox Sync is disconnected.

Expected Results:
Firefox Sync should connect automatically at browser start.

*Remarks*: I cannot reproduce this bug neither on Windows nor on Arch
Linux VirtualBox installation. It seems this bug is Ubuntu specific; I
don't know if Mozilla or Ubuntu is to blame so I decided to report it
here, too. Please don't mark it as triaged as long as we don't know
whose error is it; even though I added a Mozilla bug tracker watch.

2010-07-08 Thread Michał Gołębiowski

Binary package hint: thunderbird

Steps to reproduce:
1) Wait for a few messages to arrive in Inbox, thus being marked as unread.
