Same here on 14.04 LTS with an LG 29UM58 ultrawide monitor through a
Radeon Cedar graphics card and HDMI. Thanks to @papampi for the 2160x912
workaround, I can actually use this rather nice new monitor, though.

Actually I think not a bug, installing xserver-xorg-dev (duh) seems to
resolve the issue. Apologies for hasty filing.
